Computer won’t boot black screen fans are spinning
According to statistics, most often the source of such a problem is the following:
- Damage to the BIOS. a program stored in a CMOS flash memory chip on the motherboard, which is responsible for initial loading of the PC, as well as for checking and coordinating the operation of all its devices at the start-up stage;
- a failed processor or a malfunction of its power system;
- inoperability of RAM (random access memory) or incompatibility of installed RAM strips with each other;
- malfunction of the system logic chips (chipset) on the motherboard, especially the north bridge.
Other reasons that can also give a similar “clinic” include damage to the elements of the motherboard, leading to destabilization of the power supply of devices, a defect in the soldered contacts of microcircuits, a power supply unit with a voltage drop along individual lines, a dead CMOS battery, and other malfunctions equipment installed on the PC. However, this is less common.
It is also important to understand that this problem is never the result of software glitches in the operating system. Since its download doesn’t even start.
Disable all unnecessary
If the first method did not help, move on. Let’s try to exclude the influence of equipment that is not necessary for a successful start of the PC. To do this, you need to prepare a table covered with insulating material (polyethylene, rubber, plastic, wood, etc.), on which you will assemble the stand.
- turn off the PC power supply and remove the case cover;
- remove the expansion cards from the slots of the motherboard, disconnect the power wires and interface cables from it, remove the memory brackets;
- remove the motherboard from the case, put it on the table and inspect for artifacts. swollen capacitors, traces of overheating (darkening and deformation of plastic parts), mechanical damage and other defects;
- if there are no artifacts, install one memory bar in the slot, connect a video card (if there is no built-in one), a monitor, a previously removed bootable hard drive and a power supply;
- plug the power supply into the mains;
- close the contacts of the power button with a screwdriver. Power Switch (can be signed as ON, PWR_ON, PC_ON). this action is similar to turning on the computer by pressing this button.
If you see the operating system loading on the monitor, then the failure is caused by one of the disabled devices. Well, if, apart from the rotation of the fans, nothing happens again, let’s try to figure it out in more detail.
- Start the system. Carefully touch your hands to the processor heatsink and large components of the board. microcircuits, mosfets, etc they should normally be warm. Strong heating (do not burn yourself!). indicates a malfunction of the elements (soldering defect, short circuit), and a complete lack of heating (room temperature). most likely indicates that the node is not receiving a supply voltage.
- Power off the PC. Remove the memory stick, remove the oxide layer on its contacts by rubbing with a school eraser, blow through the slot where it was, and install it back. Turn on your computer. If the problem is resolved, the reason was poor contact between the RAM and the board connector. If you do not dare. set the bar to another slot. perhaps he is to blame.
Lack of initialization
Failure to understand the nature of certain computer problems often leads to errors in diagnostics, without which a qualified repair is impossible. And you should approach the search for a problem from its precise description. A malfunction that is described with the words: “when you press the power button (power), the computer does not turn on, but the fans are running” is called a lack or an initialization error. It should not be confused with “non-switching”. complete inaction on pressing power, since the causes of these two problems are usually different.
Initialization, in this case, is the readiness of the equipment for operation. And if any of the devices critical for starting the PC refuses to start, we will observe a typical picture:
- after turning on the system unit, a loud noise of the fans is heard (they rotate at a constant high speed);
- the keyboard and power indicators are on and off;
- the screen remains black.
The computer does not turn on, but the system unit fans are running
Resetting BIOS settings to factory defaults
This is the easiest and, at times, very effective way to fix problems with computer boot. If your case is not the most difficult, perhaps it will help.
- turn off the power of the computer and remove the cover of the system unit.
- locate the coin-cell battery on the motherboard and remove it from the socket.
- close the contacts of the battery socket together, for example, with a screwdriver;
- put the battery back.
There is another option for resetting the BIOS. with the Clear CMOS jumper (jumper). It must be removed for 15. 20 seconds. and move it to two adjacent contacts, and then put it back in place. Sometimes the jumper is called differently: CL_CMOS, CCMOS, CLRTC, CRTC, etc.
After completing these operations, reconnect the computer and try to turn it on. If the problem is resolved, its cause lay in an incorrect BIOS Setup configuration.
We replace components with known working
None of the methods helped? The last thing you can do at home is to replace the PC devices with work devices, of course, compatible with your system. However, there is a risk of damaging them.
If there is no such possibility or desire, as well as if the described problem occurs on a laptop, the only remaining option is to contact the service center.
If your computer makes a noise when you turn it on, but the monitor does not turn on
One of the most common cases. Some people mistakenly believe that if the computer is buzzing, the coolers are working, the LEDs (“lights”) on the system unit and the keyboard (mouse) are on, then the problem is not in the PC, but simply the computer monitor does not turn on. In fact, most often this indicates problems with the computer’s power supply, RAM or motherboard.
In general (for an ordinary user who does not have additional power supplies, motherboards, RAM cards and voltmeters at hand), you can try the following steps to diagnose the cause of this behavior (before the described actions, unplug the computer from the outlet, and to completely de-energize press and hold the power button for a few seconds):
- Remove the RAM strips, wipe their contacts with a soft rubber eraser, put them in place (and it is better to do this one board at a time, checking the inclusion on each of them).
- If there is a separate monitor output on the motherboard (integrated video chip), try disconnecting (removing) the discrete video card, and connecting the monitor to the integrated one. If the computer turns on after that, try wiping the pins of the individual video card and reinstalling it. If in this case the computer does not turn on again and does not beep, it is possible that the matter is in the power supply unit (in the presence of a discrete video card, it ceased to “cope”), and possibly in the video card itself.
- Try (also with the computer turned off) removing the battery from the motherboard and reinstalling it. And if, before the problem appeared, you were faced with the fact that the time is reset on the computer, then completely replace it. (see Resetting the time on the computer)
- Notice if there are any swollen capacitors on the motherboard that might look like the image below. If there is, perhaps it’s time to repair or replace the MP.
To summarize, if the computer turns on, the fans work, but there is no image. most often it is not the monitor or even the video card, the “top 2” reasons: RAM and power supply. On the same topic: When I turn on the computer, the monitor does not turn on.
The computer turns on and off immediately
If immediately after turning on the computer turns off, without any squeaks, especially if shortly before that it was not turned on the first time, then the reason is most likely in the power supply or motherboard (pay attention to points 2 and 4 from the list above).
But sometimes this can also indicate malfunctions of other equipment (for example, a video card, again, pay attention to point 2), problems with cooling the processor (especially if sometimes the computer starts to boot, and on the second or third attempt it turns off immediately after turning on, and shortly before that, you were not very skillful in changing thermal paste or cleaning your computer from dust).
Why the computer does not turn on. the first step towards finding out the cause
Someone may say that what is proposed below is superfluous, but personal experience suggests otherwise. If your laptop or computer does not turn on, check the connection of the cables (not only the plug plugged into the outlet, but also the connector connected to the system unit), the operability of the outlet itself, and other things related to the connecting cables (perhaps the operability of the cable itself).
Also, most power supplies have an additional ON-OFF switch (usually found on the back of the system unit). Check that it is in the “On” position (Important: do not confuse it with a 127-220 Volt switch, usually red and not accessible for simple finger switching, see photo below).
If, shortly before the problem appeared, you cleaned the computer from dust or installed new hardware, and the computer does not turn on “at all”, i.e. there is no fan noise, no light from the power indicators, check the connection of the power supply to the connectors on the motherboard, as well as the connection of the connectors on the front panel of the system unit (see How to connect the front panel of the system unit to the motherboard).
The computer does not turn on
The headline phrase is often heard and read in user comments on this site. This manual provides a detailed description of all the most common situations of this kind, possible causes of the problem and information on what to do if the computer does not turn on.
Just in case, I note that only the case is considered here if, after pressing the power button, no messages from the computer appear on the screen at all (i.e., you see a black screen without the previous inscriptions on the motherboard, or a message stating that there is no signal).
If you see a message that some kind of error has occurred, then this is no longer “not included”, it is. the operating system is not loaded (or some BIOS or UEFI failures have occurred). In this case, I recommend looking at the following two materials: Windows 10 does not start, Windows 7 does not start.
If the computer does not turn on and beeps at the same time, I recommend that you pay attention to the material Computer beeps when turned on, which will help you find out the cause of the problem.
Other options for the causes of failure
There are also many unlikely, but still encountered in practice, options, among which I have come across the following:
- The computer turns on only if there is a discrete video card. internal out of order.
- The computer turns on only if you turn off the printer or scanner connected to it (or other USB devices, especially if you have them recently).
- The computer does not turn on when a faulty keyboard or mouse is connected.
If nothing in the instructions helped you, ask in the comments, trying to describe the situation in as much detail as possible. how exactly it does not turn on (how it looks to the user), what happened immediately before that and were there any additional symptoms.

Only for a second does the icon appear on the monitor that it switched to HDMI
My PC stopped working after a night, I press the button, the fans spin for a second and stop, what to do?
Try to follow the instructions. The first step is to turn it off by holding the power button for a long time, unplug it from the outlet, then turn it on again. And then as described.
I really hope tell me!
Cut out the electricity in the house. then on the trail. day the PC turns on for a second and goes out, then does not respond to the “start” button until the power is turned off. Another such moment, if you remove the wires from the power supply. which go to the mat. board (8pin), then the PC turns on, everything turns. but the monitor does not respond and again the “start” button does not work.
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Here I cannot guess from afar. Most of all, it looks like problems with the power supply, but I could be wrong, and therefore, if I had this, I would experiment with removing / replacing equipment (but I have such an opportunity, and you may not have, not all power supplies and other modules are scattered everywhere)
The situation is as follows
PC froze (and the speaker started to buzz VERY loudly)
Turned off the PC through the button
When you try to turn on the system unit, all the fans turn on (the power supply of the viduha percent) work, there is no usual squeak when turned on
The monitor is just as unresponsive
What I did. checked the monitor on the laptop. works
I tried to pull out the main video card and connect the monitor to the built-in one. it did not help
Swapped the slots of the operatives. did not help
Replaced all the cords (in stock a lot from the previous computers) from the monitor to the rezetka. from the monitor to viduhu
Capacitors are not swollen
I do not know what to do. Help
Hello. And first turn on with only one memory bar, and then only with the other. we tried?
I have such a problem, the computer is working, but there is no image. I tried all the methods, nothing works. Previously, there was such a problem, I threw off the BIOS. It doesn’t help now. I don’t know what to do HELP!
Have you tried all the options from the article? No images? We tried to disconnect the discrete video card, and connect the monitor to the integrated?
I do not provide any services.
Hello, my PC does not turn on at all. It worked in the morning, then I turned it on in another outlet, it did not work there, then I put it back in its place and does not turn on again, the printer does not work either
Hello. And everything is ok with the cable, didn’t it fall out of the computer? Electricity is in the sockets (I’m serious, try to connect something else to it)?
Can you tell me what is possible.
As a standard, the computer gives a black screen when turned on, the coolers work, there are no squeaks. After reading the article above, I examined the system engineer, everything is fine, I checked the contacts, and so on. everything is OK as well. I tried to change the video card (fortunately, the old one was in the table), the result was zero.
Hello. But I don’t know. But: try disconnecting the cables from the disk drive (both power and SATA), and then try turning on the PC again.
Hello! Help me please. During normal operation, the monitor suddenly shows a black screen and writes “no signal”. Then you reboot and everything works well. After a few days, the problem repeats.
And it also started with the fact that when the PC is on, you press the shutdown button on the monitor, and then turn it on, the monitor gives “no signal”. You need to reboot again, then everything works fine.
Help, what could be the reason?
Hello! Turning on the computer, it turns off and on, etc. I read it on the Internet, try to clean it, it did not help, I rebooted my mother too. I watched, read on the Internet, a mother or a power supply flew. I can’t figure out what exactly
Hello, after work I turned on my computer (by the way, relatively new, February) it worked as always, I come from the kitchen it is off The subwoofer is working, the light has not turned off, but the PC does not turn on. I checked the sockets, plugged into another, even, nothing. Disassembled and checked the button, silence. The PC itself is not under warranty, but the components, yes, what to do now?
Hello. No reaction at all to any clicks? Even short-term fan rotations and the like? Are all the cables connected exactly (including the back to the PC itself)? Then a complete failure of the power supply is possible.
Thanks to the author of the article
I did everything as described, cleaned the holes with an eraser and the PC started the ATP heartily).
Hello, I have such a problem. After a power outage, the PC stopped turning on. LEDs do not blink, and there is no short-term start of coolers. I checked the power supply, working. Runs separately, voltage 12.13v and 5.12v. The power button reacts to the tester
Attention to the question, what could it be? The system board is burnt out or (I do not know how it is called correctly) the power supply starter?
The board is unlikely, anyway the PSU would start. According to the description, in general, it most of all looks like some kind of problem connecting the power button or power supply.
I installed another power supply unit, a worker from another computer, the situation did not change, I closed the contacts going to the power button with a screwdriver, no effect.
The monitor is flashing but the screen is black. When you press the menu button on Monica, it gives test good and back to a black screen. When you turn on the computer, the cooler on the video card buzzes strongly every
7 seconds. On the other two video cards as well. In the motherboard, a radiator is heated (probably) between the vidyuha and the process. The problem started when I tried to connect a new HDMI video card to a vga monik using an HDMI-vga adapter at the end of the video card. If you turn it on without a monitor, it buzzes in the same way.
Is there no integrated video on the video card? How does it all behave through him? (with a completely disconnected video card and without adapters).
Help. PC was working watching vidos on YouTube as suddenly the PC went into sleep mode. Attempts to return from hibernation are unsuccessful. I had to forcibly turn off the PC through the button, now it does not turn on and does not show signs of life. Tell me what is the problem? A year ago I changed the motherboard.
I can’t guess the reasons. Maybe in the power supply, but this is not a fact.
During the game, my laptop froze and did not respond to any commands, I sat over it for about 20 minutes, nothing was displayed and did not load.
As a result, I turned it off through the power button, waited a minute, turned it on, the screen with the laptop model and the inscription Preparing Automatic System Recovery lit up, then the black screen just burns and nothing happens. I tried to turn it on and off again, everything is the same. How to be and what to do? please tell me
Hello. I recommend first to wait for what he writes next. If there is a blue screen with the “advanced parameters” button, then in the additional parameters you can try to use the system restore points.
Before that, the cooler from the case was not connected to the computer and it worked fine. After the first connection of the coolers, the computer worked. when connected 2 more stopped. When turned on, the video card works (the fans light up and spin), but writes: “HDMI no signal”.
Hello. At first, the monitor did not turn on, the indicators on the computer worked, after 20-30 minutes of inactivity, it turned on. I checked everything, thought the power supply, changed it. Problem still exists. I took out the old computer, plugged it in, it worked with the new power supply, the day worked. The next day, with this computer, there is no signal on the monitor. And the backlight does not light up on the mouse when there is no signal on the monitor, as soon as it starts showing, the backlight also turns on. What can be done?
Regarding the first computer:
1. Only with integrated video (if available) tried to start?
2. There is no suspicion of the motherboard by accident?
About the second (did I understand correctly that the next day the second PC stopped turning on?):
on stale computers, I would first suspect memory strips (clear contacts), and it may not immediately appear like yours. Secondly. capacitors on the motherboard.
Hello. I assembled a completely new computer on a new 1200 socket. Intel i5 10400F processor, mother of ASRock b460 Phantom Gaming 4, A-Data XPG Gammix D10 8gb x2 RAM, Palit RTX 2060 Gaming Pro video card, FSP PNR PRO 600W power supply. When the computer is turned on, it says “no signal” on the monitor. I tried to remove / rearrange / change to another RAM, change the power supply, connect another motherboard and change the processor to i3 10100, there is no result. The processor “starts up”, everything turns and lights up, pretending that everything is working, but the signal is not sent to the monitor even for loading the BIOS, there is no integrated video, all possible methods have been tried several times. everything is useless. Please help with solving the problem, I will be infinitely grateful to you, thanks.
My guess (but not the fact that I’m right): at the first start, it tries to output to the integrated video, which is not there, hence the result. In general, the “first video card” changes in BIOS, but in your case we cannot get there. Although you write that there is an i3. and if you start on it with a monitor in the integrated video?
Tell me, this is also a problem. the computer does not turn on, the monitor does not respond, the coolers are spinning, the lights are on, the monitor does not turn on. I checked it with another monitor, the same thing Before that, when I turned it on, I got a message stating that Windows 10 is faulty, you need to run the recovery tool. After running the tool, the monitor went out and there was no more image. But the computer is a little over a year old
Possible options are described above in the article. Have you tried it or not?
Hello. The problem is this: I assembled a new computer. Processor r5 2600, mother of MSI b450m pro-vdh max. Asus gtx1660super tuf gaming OC graphics card. Memory 2 strips of 8GB Kingston HyperX FURY Black ddr4-3200. Power supply unit Deepcool dn550. When turned on, nothing happens. only coolers and silence twitch. The EZ debug led CPU is on on the board. When installing another video card, everything works.
I press the power button, the PC works but the monitor does not, after which the PC itself is cut down, turns on again and the cooler near the start button starts to blow strongly.
Then what happened? In general, it is not a fact that the PC turns on (the fact that it makes noise is not quite “turns on”).
Hello. I have an old desktop PC, i3 processor with integrated graphics. A separate video card is not provided on the motherboard. a year and a half ago, a socket for RAM broke, there was one working one, there was an 8 gigabyte RAM. when there was this breakdown, the PC behaved the same way as now: the connection was there when the start button was pressed, but it stopped immediately, the coolers stopped. recently he began to give me a video driver error from time to time, although after restarting the computer everything returned to normal. The PC disconnected after trying to enter the game with the browser turned on and gives exactly the same picture: first it connects and immediately disconnects. there are no problems in the power supply. what is it rather: the processor flew or the second socket for the RAM? what do you think?
I cannot guess from the description. over, I would not be so sure about the statement “there are no problems in the power supply unit”. that is, the fact that it was not in it before does not mean that it is not in it now.
I just checked the bp with another working bp the same picture. in general, maybe both, did I understand correctly? thanks for the big answer).
Hello, the problem is as follows. The PC worked and everything was fine, I decided to install a network card and connect the Internet through it. I turned off the PC, from the socket too, installed the network card, put the power back on, I turn on the black tap, or rather the monitor does not even try to turn on (the indicator does not change color) the indicators on the system unit do not light up, the restart and power buttons stopped working, the mouse is on but somehow flickers.
Turned off the power with the button on the power supply, pulled out the network card and now the same thing, the fans are spinning, only one diode is on on the motherboard (3 was on before) you can turn off the PC only with the button on the power supply.
Disabled everything that is not needed to start, did not help.
I swapped the RAM, left one (each in turn).
There is no buzzer, do not listen to squeaks or not.
Do you turn off with a short press of the power button or long? The second option will be correct for your case.
In general, try this way:
1. Turned off by long hold.
2. Unplugged from the outlet.
3. In this state, press and hold the power button again (fans may turn slightly).
4. Plugged in and turned on the PC.
There is some effect?
I bought almost a new computer on kufar, it worked perfectly. Then I bought a WI-FI module from this computer from the same seller. I came home, opened the case, took out the video card, stuck in the module, put the video card back in until it clicks and closed the case. As a result: the computer turns on, but reproduces the image on the screen
– when turned on, the sound that squeaks once disappeared. now I don’t know what to do
And if you turn off the module again, the situation changes.?
After a standard shutdown (shutdown via Windows), the PC was completely out of order. Complete silence when trying to start. I tried to close the contacts of the power button on the motherboard. silence. The fans do not try to spin, the indicators on the mainland near the RAM, on the additional power supply of the video card under the BIOS are on, the buzzer is silent (that is, the problem is before POST). I replaced the bios battery. the same picture. Silence. Neither the power supply unit nor the motherboard smells fired. I suppose that it is still a power supply unit, but there is no way to check by setting a known working order. Motherboard ASUS p8z68-v / pro. And another addition, a few days ago the situation was similar (the first manifestation of the situation after sending the PC to sleep), but after I plugged the power cable into another slot of the surge protector, the PC turned on. After that, there were no questions until today. What do you think?
It looks like a failing power supply, but whether this is so. we cannot say for sure.
You can try this maneuver:
1.turn off the PC from the outlet.
2.press and hold the power button for ten seconds (will discharge the circuits).
3. plug in and try to start.
But this is not a solution, it just sometimes allows you to achieve a single turn-on in such situations.
Hello, the PC turns on and even a boot screen appears, but then everything is black.
And then what happened? Something on a black screen, such as a mouse pointer, is?
Also, if after that you turn it off with a short press of the power button, try turning it off for a long time (5-10 seconds), and then turning it on again.
Help me please. Previously, when the PC was turned on, it issued a single squeak, and after several shutdowns with the power supply button (that is, I turned it off through the block, and not by shutting down) it just turns on, but does not make a sound, and the monique is black. But if I turn it on and off several times, then everything is fine.
Most of all, it looks like problems with the power supply, but this is not certain: according to the description, the exact reason cannot be named.
How to fix the problem and where to start?
Many may not believe it, but according to statistics, in 60% of such situations, the problem is corrected by cleaning the contacts and rearranging the RAM modules.
To do this, you need to turn off and open the system unit. Next, we find the strap / strips of RAM, remove it, wipe the contacts with a dry eraser or just with your fingers and insert it back.
One of the possible reasons is poor contact of RAM
Trying to turn it on. If there is no result, then it is worth trying to put the memory module in the adjacent slot. If several memory modules are installed, then try to insert them one by one and into different slots.
It will not be superfluous to reset the BIOS settings by removing the battery for a few minutes.
Removing the computer motherboard battery
Also note if there are any swollen capacitors on the motherboard. In the case when they are. the problem is in the motherboard.
One of the reasons is a swollen capacitor
If cleaning the contacts and rearranging the memory modules did not work, then check if a speaker is installed on your motherboard, which emits signals when the computer is turned on.
External computer speaker on motherboard
If there is a speaker, remove the RAM and try to turn on the PC without it. Is the speaker silent? So things are bad. Most likely problems with the motherboard, although it would be worth trying to change the power supply by borrowing it for a while from friends or neighbors purely for checking.
Locating the power supply in the computer case
If the speaker emits at least some sequence of signals, then here is a table for you, according to which you can decipher what the problem is.
If there is no speaker and there is no way to install it, then after the RAM, try to change the power supply to a known working one. Pay attention if the pins of the 4-8 pin processor power plug are not burnt.
Next comes the turn of the video card. As in the case of the RAM, we remove it from the connector, wipe the contacts and insert it back. If the motherboard has a built-in video card, then we try to turn on the PC from it by pulling out a discrete.
The presence of a monitor connector on the back of the computer is a guarantor of the presence of a built-in video card on the motherboard
If none of the above helped, you checked the monitor, as well as the reliability of the cable connection, and at the same time, including the computer, a black screen is displayed, and the coolers are working, then with a probability of 95% we can say that the motherboard is out of order and it need to replace.
What causes the problem
The reasons for the absence of a video signal are the following:
- Malfunction of the monitor or a separate video input on it.
- Malfunction of the interface cable between the video card and the monitor.
- Malfunction of the video card. the signal is not generated or is not output to the connected connector.
- Incorrect connection of the video card and its additional power supply.
- Faulty graphics card slot on the motherboard.
- Lack of support for the video card by the motherboard.
- Disable onboard video in BIOS / UEFI.
The reasons for the lack of initialization go beyond the scope of one subsystem and can be related to:
- BIOS errors.
- With a faulty RAM.
- Incorrect installation (bent contacts), malfunction, lack of support for the processor by the motherboard.
- With malfunctions in the power system of the elements of the motherboard and devices connected to it, which are involved in the process of starting the computer. Or with the failure of these elements.
What to do if the computer turns on but does not start and does not beep, and the fans are running?
A situation in which the computer allegedly turns on, but the image does not appear on the screen, although the fans are running, is the most common computer breakdown. At the same time, very often the screen displays a transition to sleep mode.
There may be several reasons, from the most innocuous, which will be solved by cleaning the contacts, then quite serious and costly, when you have to change the motherboard.
In this article, we will consider all possible options for diagnosing and eliminating this malfunction at home, which will help you solve this problem yourself.
What can a user do in such a situation? Even without special equipment, you can try to solve the problem at home. It is enough to know how to use a screwdriver.
Ready for takeoff! Why the fans are spinning, and the computer does not start and does not beep
Perhaps we do not know everything about our iron “pets”. What if they can fly? Here is a computer, spinning fans, and the screen is black and black. In addition to the monotonous howl, there is not a squeak from the body, except that the lights are slightly winking. It is trying to take off. But it cannot, because they did not fill with kerosene.
So why are the fans spinning and the computer not starting and beeping? In fact, the reason is not at all in attempts to fly away, but in a common malfunction, which is associated with
troubleshooting BIOS failures
Sometimes resetting the BIOS to factory settings helps to solve the problem of the mother card inoperability. Use this instruction to return BIOS to default settings:
- Because You will not be able to turn on the computer and enter the BIOS; you will have to do a reset using special contacts on the motherboard. Therefore, if you have not yet disassembled the system unit, disassemble it and de-energize.
- Find a special CMOS-memory battery on the motherboard (looks like a silver pancake) and remove it for 10-15 minutes using a screwdriver or other improvised item, then put it back. Sometimes the battery can be under the power supply, then you will have to dismantle the latter. There are also boards where this battery is absent or on which, to reset the BIOS settings, it is not enough just to pull it out.
As an alternative to removing the battery, you can consider resetting the settings using a special jumper. Find “sticking out” pins on the motherboard, which can be designated as ClrCMOS, CCMOS, ClRTC, CRTC. There should be a special jumper that covers 2 of 3 pins.
On expensive motherboards there are special buttons for resetting BIOS settings. They are called CCMOS.
