How to properly charge your iphone in 2021?

need, discharge, iphone

[Info was updated on November 23, 2020]

In this article I will try to tell and answer the basic questions related to charging the iPhone.

Can cheap, non-original lightning wires be used?

Not desirable, as there were many cases of overheating of devices and fires of both the devices themselves and the cables.

The original Apple cable has a microcontroller to control the power supplied to the device.

But if we are not talking about Chinese cables for 1, but about less well-known brands (A brand), then you can use cables, they usually have certification from Apple.

How to properly charge iphone 11 and 12 in 2021

  • Up to 80%. in fast mode.
  • 80 to 100% trickle charge.
  • Do not charge to 100%
You can turn off charging after 80%, then your battery will live much longer.
  • Apple advises to completely discharge the iPhone once a month.
if your iphone turns off when the charge is 1% or more, then you should completely discharge the phone. This will calibrate the power controller. But not more often than once a month.
  • Earlier, at a time when they were still doing “battery / battery calibration” for phones, laptops and other equipment, the question was “how to charge a new iPhone for the first time”, but now no one is doing this, because the principle of creating batteries has long changed and is no longer required when buying a new device, charge and discharge it several times.

Therefore, answering your question “is it necessary to completely discharge the new iPhone”. no, it is not necessary. But Apple advises about once a month to discharge your smartphone to almost 0% and then fully charge it.

Is it possible to charge the iphone by charging from the ipad?

Yes you can, but there are a couple of nuances:
The Iphone will heat up when charging (if you already have it, it will get even hotter). And there were cases that when charging iPhones, they swelled or exploded, but the chances are very small :).

What is the essence and why the iPhone charges faster from charging the ipad?
Because the iphone and ipad chargers have different output power, as a rule, the iphone has 1A (ampere), and the ipad has 2A.

Also, you may have a question: “Will the battery be damaged because of this?”.
IPhone batteries have a certain charge cycle after which they lose their volume, about 1000 cycles, which can be equated to 3 years of use if you charge the phone once a day.

The question may also arise: “Is it possible to charge the iPhone faster, but without charging from the ipad?”. Yes you can, there are some tricks.

If you need to charge your iPhone in 10-15 minutes, you are in a hurry and do not have time to sit and wait 2 hours until it is fully charged. Then you should limit the use of your device to the maximum: leave it alone, stop all processes (downloads, games, exit all applications in the background), and most importantly, turn on the air mode.

Do I need to completely discharge my phone before charging?

Previously, there was such a thing as battery calibration (this is when the phone was completely discharged, and then it was charged several times)
Now it is not required to do this, as a lithium-ion battery is now used.

How to extend the life of an iphone battery?
    1) Do not discharge it completely to 0%.
    2) Charge it with 50% charge remaining (40-60%).
    3) Also, do not leave your phone to charge overnight.

How long should the iPhone charge?

The correct answer is as much as he needs. over, the speed with which the battery will be filled with energy depends on many conditions:

    • The choice of the power supply unit of the power supply is important. By the way, I boldly use the adapter from the iPad (Apple allows this to be done). it turns out really faster.
    • Whether the device is in use while charging or not. It is clear that if you play the game and charge in parallel, the process can be delayed.
    • Even the length of the wire matters!

If we talk about the charging time from 0 to 100%, then for the iPhone (depending on the model) it may take from 1.5 to 3 hours. Naturally, the “plus” iPhone 6 and 6S take the longest to charge. Simply due to the fact that they have a more capacious battery. It is rather a reference point, you may have a little more or less. Read here about the charging times of each model and whether you need to pay close attention to it?

In cases where deviations from this “norm” are large enough, read this article again. You may be doing something wrong. Although battery problems are not excluded, you cannot do without a service center here.

How to properly charge iPhone and preserve battery capacity?

Strongly welcome! The question (voiced in the title of the article) is, on the one hand, quite interesting and suggestive, but on the other What is there to think about? After all, in essence, the answer will be very simple. insert the charger and charge it! How can this be done wrong?

It would seem that this can be finished, however there are a huge number of accompanying nuances regarding the correct charging of the iPhone. How to charge and not damage the battery? What is possible and what is not? What to do after purchase. wait for the discharge or use it right away? Now we will deal with all this! But first, let’s remember one very simple truth. the battery cannot be charged incorrectly. Here is such a surprise! 🙂

This is simply not possible due to the fact that in:

    • Wire.
    • iPhone.
    • Power supply.

There are special controllers responsible for the process of receiving current. If one of them doesn’t like something, then the device simply won’t charge. Of course, it is necessary to make a reservation that we are talking about original accessories. In the “Chinese” for 100 rubles, there can be no talk of any microcontrollers. And although non-originals can be taught to charge, it is better not to use them for a long time, but only in desperate situations.

The only thing that can be done correctly or not while charging is not to cover the device with a blanket, pillow, or other materials. Because the iPhone, and most other gadgets on the market, tend to get hot while charging (why and is it scary?). And it’s safer when this warmth freely enters the atmosphere.

How to charge iPhone for the first time after purchase?

As you wish. The device comes on sale with a certain charge level, so you can use it almost immediately and without any restrictions.

If we talk about the fact that for the first time before use, you must first completely discharge the device, then fully charge and “that’s all about it.” It should be noted here that modern lithium-ion batteries do not have the so-called “memory effect”, so there is no need for all these procedures. Plus their resource, as a rule, is about 500 such cycles. and this, for a second, 2 years. And only after that they will begin to lose more or less seriously in capacity.

The conclusion is this: we bought and use it freely.

How best to charge your iPhone or save your battery. Apple’s recommendations

Finally, here are some more useful tips that Apple publishes for proper charging and preserving battery capacity:

    • Apple recommends removing cases while charging, as they cause heat build-up, which, in turn, negatively affects the capacity of the battery.
    • For the same reason, you should not use the device in the cold.
    • If you want to put your iPhone in temporary storage, then it’s better to charge it halfway, turn it off and then safely put it away for a long time.
    • Only original accessories. Yes, it is important. By the way, it is not necessary to use cables and power supplies from Apple, it is enough that they are simply certified. You can identify them by the MFI (Made For iPhone) inscription on the box.

In general, it should be noted that all of them (except for the last point) are of an exclusively recommendatory nature.

And even if your iPhone turns off in the cold, there is nothing wrong with that and the battery will not immediately deteriorate. Again, these are just recommendations and it’s up to you whether to follow them or not.

Finally, let’s consolidate all of the above a little and summarize a little. it doesn’t matter how or with what you charge your iPhone, the main thing is:

    • Do it with quality (certified) accessories.
    • Observe some safety precautions.
    • Use sensible (!) Advice to ensure proper charging and preservation of battery capacity.

And everything else, with a few reservations, can be ignored.

Does a new phone need to be discharged 3 times?

Today’s lithium-ion batteries, which are found in almost all portable electronics, do not require a complete discharge and charge cycle. over, it is better to keep the battery charged at all times than to completely discharge it: it will work more stable this way.

Do I need to completely discharge a new smartphone?

Do I need to fully discharge my new smartphone before charging? Yes! The first thing to do after buying a mobile device is to completely discharge it, and then charge it to 100%. Then it is worth removing the device from the charger.

Why you need to completely discharge your battery?

over, if you bought a new gadget, the battery must be kept slightly charged at all times. If you completely discharge the phone, the charge will drop to a critical level. This will start irreversible chemical processes inside the battery, significantly reduce its productivity, capacity.

How to properly charge your iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max?

iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max

When buying a new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, or iPhone Pro Max, you want its battery to last as long as possible.

For this, I have compiled a list of tips to help you with this. Let’s talk about how to properly charge your device.

How to properly charge your new iPhone 11/11 Pro / 11 Pro Max for the first time?

Having bought a brand new smartphone, you are afraid not only to pull it out of the box, but then put it on charge. After all, I don’t want something to happen to the phone on the very first day.

I want to say right away that we forget about the old methods, when it was necessary to discharge to 0 percent and then charge to 100 percent. As practice has shown, this does nothing and can even harm the battery.

On the first day of purchase, you do not need to bother about special charging methods, but just follow the generally accepted tips, which I will describe further.

    Only original accessories

The most important point can be safely called the use of original chargers.

You don’t have to buy expensive options from Apple. You can also purchase other manufacturers that are Apple certified.

We just make sure that there are such logos on the box.

Do I need to charge up to 100 percent?

To be honest, today phones have already reached the stage where you can charge it almost as you like.

That is, if you want to charge up to 50 percent and go somewhere, then this is not a problem at all. Such a moment will not harm the battery in any way.

The thing is that each battery has its own wear and tear and it is measured in the number of cycles (1 cycle. 100 percent of the battery). The more cycles, the smaller the battery capacity and the less it will hold.

The only thing is there is one rule that I myself follow. It doesn’t charge “iPhone” if it doesn’t have at least 20 percent battery.

IPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone Pro Max Charging Tips

How quickly your battery loses its capacity depends entirely on how actively you use your device.

iPhone 11. First 13 Things To Do!

Let’s quickly go over all the highlights you need to know.

Do not use or charge your device in extreme temperatures (40 ° C and 50 ° C).

Apple considers the ideal temperature range to be between 16 and 22 ° C and does not recommend “using your device in ambient temperatures above 35 ° C as this could permanently reduce battery capacity.” Overheating is critical!

From personal experience: I don’t look at the thermometer when I pick up my iPhone 5s, which I don’t recommend to you either. It is enough that:

    • The device has not been exposed to direct sunlight.
    • Do not leave it in the car in the heat.
    • Do not charge under the pillow.

How to properly charge your new iPhone 5S

The first recharge of your device is one of the most important moments. In order for the accessory to serve regularly for long and long years and amuse you with a long battery life, you need to do the 1st recharge cycle well.

How to properly charge your iPhone 5S the first time:

    • how do you take your device out of the box, connect it to the charger for at least three hours;
    • if the battery indicator is 100% full, you can safely use the device right before the battery is completely discharged;
    • after the accessory turns off, leave the iPhone alone for about two to three hours;
    • after the indicated time has elapsed, reconnect the phone to the charger and wait again for charging to 100%.

It is also necessary to note one important aspect in the question: “How to properly charge the iPhone 5S for the first time?” During the first recharging cycle, under no circumstances can you use the device, otherwise the new battery will begin to “sag” and lose, albeit a very small, fundamental volume of the battery. In addition, before properly charging the new iPhone 5S, in other words, according to the above annotation, make sure that the recharging place excludes any sources of water (bathrooms, water vases, aquariums, etc.) and direct sunlight. In other words, in fact, everything that can be bad for the first cycle.

In order to really figure out how to properly charge the iPhone 5S and whether to leave it overnight, you need to clearly understand what exactly happens to our device after connecting to the charger.

Immediately it is worth seeing that, as in most other similar cases, the charging controller is responsible for the process of powering the device, or, in other words, the power control module. This controller is directly connected to the indication of the battery capacity, in other words, it does not allow the device to be recharged and at the same time

Do I need to discharge my iPhone after purchase. How long to charge iPhone the first time

There is no ideal scheme, but still adhere to the generally accepted rules and recommendations of the manufacturer.

iPhone is an expensive device that we usually buy for at least 2 years. At the same time, we have hopes that after the planned service life it will still work properly and we will be able to sell it for “good” money.

One of the first, buyers. ask a question about the state of the device’s power supply, for example: “How long does the battery hold?” So it makes sense to take care of the correct operation of the iPhone battery right now.

As a power source in iPhones, iPads and other portable equipment, Apple (other manufacturers too) uses lithium-ion batteries that:

    • Charge faster.
    • Work longer.
    • Have an increased specific capacity.
    • Not subject to memory effect.

The memory effect of a storage battery is understood as a reversible loss of capacity that occurs in some types of electric batteries when the recommended charging mode is violated, in particular, when recharging an incompletely discharged battery.

As an experienced iPhone and iPad owner (since 2008) I declare with full responsibility that Apple uses quality power sources in its products.

Do I need to discharge the iphone after purchase

Users of even the most modern gadgets sometimes blindly follow the rule that was common even at the dawn of mobile communications: before using the device, you need to completely discharge the device, then fully charge it. The most fanatical users have taken this rule to the point of absurdity, suggesting that you fully charge and discharge your iPhone three times. Does this even make sense. we will consider in the article.

Someone was engaged in practical research on the issue of charging mobile devices Eric Leamer. experiments led him to unexpected conclusions. Charging the iPhone DO 100%, as it turned out, is generally harmful. the optimal charge level should be between 50% and 70%. When charging up to 100%, the battery can withstand only 500 cycles, while when charging up to 70%. over a thousand.

Where did the prejudice about the importance of being fully charged come from? The first cell phones were equipped with nickel batteries, subject to so-called memory effect. Memory effect lies in the fact that if the recommendations for use are violated, the active substance of the nickel battery crystallizes. as a result, the maximum amount of energy that the battery can store is reduced. The accumulator “remembers” that it was not fully used before, and therefore gives energy only up to a fixed limit. hence the name of the effect.

Modern gadgets are equipped with lithium-ion batteries, which do not have a memory effect. Almost everyone who talks about the need to completely discharge the phone before using it. belong to the older generation and started with black and white “dialers” for whom this rule was relevant. Now from a competent consultant in the salon, the buyer will not hear such a recommendation.

How to properly and for a long time to charge an iPhone after purchase and during use?

Modern rechargeable batteries in iPhone mobile devices do not require the first full discharge and charge, as was the case in older smartphones. Today, the batteries in commercially available gadgets already have a low level of charge.

The smartphone or tablet can be used immediately after unpacking without any restrictions. However, there are a few tips to help you extend battery life.

    Optimal iPhone charging time

There is no exact time. Each smartphone charges as much as it needs. However, there are a number of general conditions that affect the rate at which the battery is filled with energy:

    • Charger type. It should at least be certified. Use an iPad adapter to charge your iPhone faster.
    • When the device is not in use, the charging speed increases. Naturally, if you play or watch a video at the same time, the process can be delayed.

On average, an iPhone takes 1.5-3 hours. It depends on the model. For example, the iPhone 6 Plus and 6S Plus have a larger battery due to their larger size.

How to properly charge your iPhone?

To extend battery life, Apple’s developers advise users to:

    • Always remove protective covers when charging iPhone, especially wireless charging. The case causes additional overheating, which negatively affects the battery capacity.
    • Try not to use smartphones outside in the cold. Freezing temperatures also negatively affect battery capacity, as does overheating.
    • If you do not plan to use your phone for several days or more, then charge it to 50% and turn it off.
    • Use only original chargers. You don’t have to buy Apple charging accessories. The main thing is that the cable and power supply have the appropriate certificates: the box must be marked MFI (Made For iPhone. made for iPhone).

Do I need to completely drain the battery of my new iPhone. How to charge a new iPhone and iPad battery

Hello everyone! It would seem that the answer to this question is quite simple and you need to charge the iPhone exactly as long as the charge is full and its indicator stays on near the battery icon. As soon as the battery indicator turns green and is full. everything, you can safely disconnect the charger. Is it logical? Of course!

However, there is another side to the issue. For example, some users want to know the exact number of hours and minutes that the iPhone should be on charge. And they have the right to do so. such data is never superfluous. Also, especially often I am asked about how much should be recharged new, just bought iPhone.

In general, I can only explain all this fuss about “charging duration” by the fact that some kind of magic is still hovering around the iPhone. Beginners are afraid of doing something wrong and damaging the device in any way, even when it comes to something as simple as recharging. Looking ahead, I can note that this is almost impossible. But first things first, let’s start!

The first thing to note is that the charging time, even for two identical iPhones, will never be 100% the same. The rate of filling with energy depends on many factors, and here are some of them:

    • How strongly the battery is initially filled.
    • Is the original wire used (power supply).
    • Where does the power come from (computer or outlet).
    • Adapter power. For example, Apple is officially charging the iPhone. And of course, in this case everything will go much faster.
    • Is the smartphone in airplane mode, connected to Wi-Fi or cellular networks, etc.

And this is not all the moments! So if your friend’s phone charges in 2 hours, and your phone takes 2 hours and 30 minutes, then this in no way means that you have a marriage, and you should run to change it.

However, there are some average iPhone charging times and they depend primarily on the battery capacity of a particular model:

    ModelAverage charging time
    iPhone 4, 4S, 51 hour 40 minutes
    iPhone 5S, 5C1 hour 50 minutes
    iPhone 5SE, 6, 6S2 hours 10 minutes
    iPhone 6 Plus, 6S Plus3 hours 30 minutes
    iPhone 72 hours 20 minutes
    iPhone 7 Plus3 hours 40 minutes
    iPhone 82 hours 10 minutes
    iPhone 8 Plus3 hours 30 minutes
    iPhone X3 hours 30 minutes
    iPhone XS3 hours 20 minutes
iPhone XS Max3 hours 50 minutes
    iPhone XR3 hours 40 minutes

A few important notes about this table:

    • This means how long charging takes from 0 to 100%.
    • Some models were combined into one line due to the fact that their battery capacity differs very slightly, and it makes no sense to verify the time with an accuracy of minutes.
    • The data is indicated using a standard (included in the kit) power supply (5 Watt, 1 Ampere current).
    • All figures are approximate, just for guidance. You can have more or less.

A useful feature! It is useful for those who want to charge faster. use airplane mode. In places with an uncertain signal of the cellular network, such an operation will help speed up the process by 20-30%.

Conclusion: charge the iPhone as much as it (and most importantly, you!) Needs. Don’t chase hard metrics and don’t make life difficult for yourself.

Probably every iPhone owner charges his own device in a mess. Knowing that the accessory will last for about one day of light, we try to snatch precious energy here and there, at least by the same 20-30%. We are talking about occasional recharging at the workplace, with friends, in the car and other sources. And this is on the one hand, but on the other, we “fry” our accessories, leaving them to feed overnight, which almost always exceeds the time mark of seven o’clock.

In general, the average user does not ask such serious questions about charging the device for himself. he plugged the device into an outlet and forgot. Yet there are a few fascinating and fundamental points that few people know about. These aspects, together with general advice, will help answer the question: “How to properly charge the iPhone 5S?”

We will systematize and pay attention to all practical and critical points from the standard operating instructions for the device, which, in one way or another, relate to our topic.

iPhone Mothballed: How to Conserve Battery Capacity

There are situations when the iPhone is not used for a long time. In this case, every 6 months it must be charged up to 50%. If you leave an unused gadget with a fully charged battery for a long time, it will lose some of its capacity. If you mothball a completely discharged iPhone, the battery will go into deep discharge, which is even worse. Therefore, store the device in the off state, in a dry room and with a half-charged battery.

Battery Calibration. Why You Need It?

Even if you know how to properly handle the iPhone, you will not be able to charge it according to all the rules day after day. This is usually done haphazardly and wherever. Plus other errors in operation, plus natural aging of the battery, accompanied by a decrease in capacity, plus chemical processes in the batteries. all this leads to the fact that over time the power controller stops accurately determining the charge level.

In order for the gadget to correctly display this indicator, you need to calibrate the battery from time to time. Namely: fully charge the iPhone, and then discharge it to zero.

This procedure will bring the controller to life, and the battery level indicator will show the correct numbers again.

The easiest way to set up your new iPhone 11 or 11 Pro

Calibration should not be done too often. Apple recommends that you completely discharge your iPhone no more than once a month.

Tips on how to properly charge your iPhone to avoid damaging your battery

As you know, the first herald of the imminent failure of the iPhone is the battery. At first, it lasts less and less time, then the owner tries to replace it, and often without much success. So it is better to use the “native” battery as long as possible than to look for a new one.

Do not bring your battery to zero

Ideally, it is best to charge the iPhone at 10-20% battery and unplug it from the charger at 80-90%. The explanation is simple. The life of a lithium-ion battery is measured by the number of full discharge cycles. IPhone battery life is approximately 500 cycles. That is, to completely kill the battery, it is enough to discharge it to complete zero 500 times. Therefore, the more often a deep discharge occurs, the sooner it will fail.

It is believed that a 100% charge, although not so terrible, is also undesirable. Because, although the controller will not let the battery overheat, the constant connection to the power source, although slowly, still reduces its capacity. This statement is rather controversial, because the battery, having typed 100%, stops charging automatically and will not take too much. Many experts, on the contrary, believe that it is best to leave the iPhone on recharging overnight. to give the gadget time to update all the necessary applications.

    Basic rules for proper charging

There are elementary rules for competent and most gentle battery charging. There are few of them:

    • Do not charge iPhone in extreme temperatures;
    • Use the original (native) charger;
    • Try not to discharge the gadget completely, to 0% (here, however, there is one subtlety, but more about it below);
    • Do not charge the battery to 100%

Apple’s step-by-step charging instructions are also simple:

    • Use a cable and power adapter to connect iPhone to a power outlet.
    • If you are using a wireless MagSafe device, place the gadget on the device with the screen facing up. It is important to put it correctly, then the charging will be faster. Qi chargers can also be used.
    • When charging from a computer, it is important to ensure that it has the correct USB port and that the computer is turned on. Because if you connect your iPhone to a turned off PC, the battery of the gadget may even start to discharge.
    • If an image of a discharged battery appears on the screen, you need to put the iPhone on recharging for at least 10 minutes;
    • IPhone cannot be charged if water gets into the connector.
    • Finally, you cannot change the battery yourself. This can only be done by the manufacturer or an authorized service provider.

The video below also provides helpful tips on how to charge your iPhone without damaging the battery:

The sun is the enemy of the battery

Apple guidelines say the ideal temperature for using and charging an iPhone is between 16 ° C and 20 ° C. The temperature is really comfortable (and not only for gadgets), but the iPhone is not such a delicate device, and it does not need such greenhouse conditions. Many specialized sites and blogs warn against extreme temperatures from minus 40 to plus 50, which are not very typical for the lifestyle of the average Russian owner of an expensive device. Putting together Apple’s instructions and numerous opinions of experienced users, we can say that overheating is not so terrible (temperatures up to 35 degrees are generally not critical) as direct sunlight is falling on the device.

Even with mild heat, this can, if not kill the battery, then certainly sharply reduce its capacity.

By the way, the battery tolerates subzero temperatures better than heat. After warming up, the battery restores its functions, although, of course, it is not worth freezing it either.

    Use original adapters and cables

Naturally, it is better to use the charger purchased with the iPhone. But it happens that the charger is lost and then substandard fakes are often replaced. Their danger is that the adapter must have the required voltage and current parameters, and if the voltage is exceeded by at least 3-4%, the battery will begin to die about twice as fast. To prevent this from happening, the original adapters have a built-in PCIM controller, which is usually not found in fakes. It’s the same with the Lightning cable. The original product is equipped with a chip, which is required, for example, for authentication. It is quite difficult to fake it, but in China they even managed to do this. Penny Chinese cables with a fake chip also work, but usually not for long.

So there is only one way out. to buy accessories from manufacturers authorized by Apple. They are usually marked with the letters MFI (Made For iPhone).

Another question: can a smartphone be charged via an iPad charger? The answer is unequivocal: yes, you can. provided that the adapter is original. The device for the iPad produces a slightly higher current (2.1 A), but thanks to the built-in controller, the battery does not overload.

    Optimized or smart charging

Basically, the charging rules are the same for all Apple smartphone models. The difference is in new features that are supported in iPhones with iOS 13, for example, iPhone 11.

It’s not even about a more capacious battery, which holds a charge for about an hour, or even one and a half longer than batteries in devices of earlier generations. The 11th model has an “optimized charging” function that will help keep the battery in a “like new” condition for a long time.

It works like this. A device with artificial intelligence, as it were, studies the lifestyle of its owner in order to independently find the optimal time and intensity of current supply.

For example, knowing when the owner puts it on charge in the evening and what time he disconnects it from the power supply in the morning, it will quickly gain 80% within an hour and a half and stop in standby mode.

You can enable the function in the settings. In the “battery” section, you need to find the “battery status” and select the “optimized charging” option.

In summary, there are no very strict rules about how you charge your iPhone. There are only recommendations, following which you can significantly extend the life of the gadget. In addition, a power controller is already built into it, which plays the role of a kind of protection against a fool, so that even with the most barbaric handling of the device, nothing terrible will happen to it. Unless you have to change in a year and a half, and not in three or four.

How the controller controls iPhone charging

iPhone has excellent control over the charging of its battery, which takes place in two stages: charging in fast mode and trickle charge mode.

▪️ Charging in fast mode. First, the iPhone loads its battery as much as possible and brings the energy inside it to 80%.

Charging times vary depending on the power source you are using: Standard PSU, iPad PSU, Power Delivery Mode with MacBook PSU and Lightning to USB-C Cable.

At the same time, the controller monitors the temperature and reduces the charging speed if it reaches critical values.

▪️ Trickle charge mode. The remaining 20% of the battery is charged at reduced amperage, and the energy level inside it reaches 100% gradually.

This is necessary so that the battery is worn out as little as possible. Therefore, even my iPhone 7 with 750 recharge cycles today feels quite normal and even shows “Peak Performance” of the battery.

    Wasted time. Battery performance unchanged

The program shows changes, but they are not really there

Before starting the procedure, I recorded the values in coconutBattery: the battery state is about 83%, the maximum capacity is 1631 out of 1960 mAh.

After the procedure, the numbers in the application really increased: the state of the battery is about 88%, the maximum capacity is 1724 out of 1960 mAh.

It would seem that it’s time to clap your hands and run to write the most positive conclusions.

But instead, I began to observe the data that coconutBattery produces for a couple of minutes.

The miracle app surprised me: the battery health percentages jumped by different values in the range of 80-90%. Therefore, there can be no question of any accuracy in this case.

Instead, I will use a more realistic source of information that can be trusted. “Battery Status” from the “Settings” “Battery” menu:

And it was, and there are 87%.

The maximum battery capacity is 87%, it was the same before the experiment and remained the same after it.

    This confirms two facts:

▪️ There is no point in calibrating the iPhone battery. we’ll see this a couple of times later.
▪️ Third-party apps do not have access to real iPhone battery data.

If you are not satisfied with the battery life of your iPhone, and the number of its recharge cycles has exceeded 500, replace the battery

Humble yourself, this is a consumable, and it gradually breaks down every second.

5 Tips for Longer iPhone Battery Life

Updating iOS is not scary today

? Update your iOS sooner. A couple of years ago, Apple was accused of deliberately slowing down the iPhone using new versions of the operating system.

After that, the company is attentive to updates and regularly optimizes each subsequent.

iPhone can and should be updated. It is best to turn on “Auto-update” in the “Settings” “General” “Software update”.

? Normal accessories. Cables and power supplies of unknown origin are contraindicated for long battery life.

At the same time, to charge your iPhone, you can safely use the power supply not only from the iPad, but even from the MacBook (we are talking about USB-C).

High and low temperatures are your enemy

? Be afraid of the temperature. iPhone is best charged and used in temperatures between 0 ° C and 35 ° C.

Any stress load in conditions that go beyond these limits can be harmful to the battery.

? Charge without a case. Many models of cases (especially non-names) contribute to overheating of the battery.

If you notice your iPhone is getting hot while charging, remove the case first.

? Store your iPhone properly. If you do not use your iPhone for a long time, keep the energy in its battery at about 50%.

It is best to check its level every couple of months.

Testing the most popular battery revitalization tip

Experts recommend two steps to calibrate the iPhone battery: a preparatory step and a calibration step.

First you need to disable resource-intensive tasks

️ Preparatory stage. At the preparatory stage, you should disable the most energy-consuming processes on the iPhone. This must be done so that the smartphone does not turn off by 10-20% of the charge, and we managed to discharge it to zero.

First you need to disable automatic content downloads in the “Settings” menu “iTunes Store and App Store”.

Next, turn off the background content update in the “Settings” “General” “Content update”.

After that, you need to turn off geolocation in the “Settings” “Privacy” “Geolocation Services”.

In the end, it is best to lower the brightness of the iPhone screen to the minimum value.

A smartphone with a stale battery can turn itself off if there is not enough power, so it is better not to overload it.

The easiest way to drain your iPhone is with movies

️ Calibration phase. At the calibration stage, the iPhone needs to be discharged to full zero and recharged to the maximum level at least a couple of times. For reliability, I did it 3 times.

▪️ To discharge the device to zero, the easiest way is to set the video to repeat in VLC and wait until the smartphone turns off.

After that, it is better to wait a couple more hours for the internal processes to discharge the iPhone to zero. I left the device with the video overnight.

▪️ To charge the device for real 100%, you need to connect it to the power supply, wait for the cherished hundred to appear on the indicator, and then wait another couple of hours.

As with discharging, I left the iPhone on charge overnight so that it could be fully charged.

I repeated the charging and discharging procedure exactly three times: I completely discharged it during the first night, charged it for the second, and so on.

To show the result, experts usually use the data of the coconutBattery application.

When to Change Your Favorite iPhone Battery

500 cycles is not always the limit

Apple recommends changing the battery after 500 charge cycles. During this time, his condition usually falls below 80%, and then the rate of his degradation grows exponentially.

But I have in my hands a vivid example of a relatively careful attitude to the device: iPhone 7 with 750 charge cycles and 87% battery status.

I don’t do anything supernatural, but I hardly break the 5 rules above.

Apple doesn’t even recommend calibration itself.

Battery controllers are calibrated during production

In the past, Apple did advise periodic battery calibration of its devices. Most likely, it has been since then that this concept has remained in the minds of experts.

However, it never had anything to do with the iPhone. Device controllers with built-in battery are calibrated during production and do not need any additional manipulations.

Only devices with a removable battery need to be calibrated: MacBook and MacBook Pro prior to 2009, and iBook and PowerBook.

I have calibrated my iPhone battery. Did it help or not?

There are many tips on how to increase the capacity of a tired battery and normalize the display of% charge in iPhone.

Most often, it is advised to calibrate the smartphone with a series of simple steps. I tested the magic trick on myself and I hasten to share the results.

The role of the test subject was played by my iPhone 7. The number of charging and discharging cycles has already exceeded 750. According to Apple’s recommendations, the battery in it had to be changed 250 charges back, but it still works quite normally.
