In order to ensure image quality without any defects, you need to set the correct screen resolution, which corresponds to the physical.

Changing the screen resolution

There are different methods for changing the display resolution.

AMD Catalyst Control Center

If your computer uses AMD drivers, then the setting can be done through the “AMD Catalyst Control Center”.

Now go to desktop management.

  • Don’t forget to apply the changes.

    Solving some problems

    • If the list of permissions is not available to you or nothing has changed after applying the settings, update your graphics drivers. You can check their relevance and download using special programs. For example, DriverPack Solution, DriverScanner, Device Doctor, etc.
  • There are some monitors that require their own drivers. You can find them on the official website of the manufacturer or try to search using the above programs.
  • The problem can also be caused by the adapter, adapter, or cable that connects to the monitor. If there is another connection option, then try it.
  • When you have changed the value, and the image quality has become very poor, set the recommended parameters and resize the elements in the “Screen” section
  • If the system did not automatically rebuild the resolution when connecting an additional monitor, then go to the path “Display settings”. “Graphics adapter properties”. “List of all modes”. Select the size you want from the list and apply.

    With such simple manipulations you can adjust the screen and its resolution in Windows 10.

    Screen Resolution Manager

    First of all, we will consider using third-party programs to solve the problem posed in this article using the Screen Resolution Manager application as an example.

      After the Screen Resolution Manager installation file has been downloaded, the program should be installed. To do this, run the installer. A welcome window will open. Click “Next” in it.

    Next, a window opens, where the location of the executable file of the installed program is indicated. Unless there is a specific reason, there is no need to change this directory, so just click “Next”.

    In the next window, you can change the name of the program icon in the Start menu. But, again, there is no point in doing this for no particular reason. Click “Next”.

    After that, a window opens, where all the previously entered data are summarized. If you want to change something, then click “Back” and edit. If everything suits you completely, then you can proceed to the installation procedure of the program, for which it is enough to click “Install”.

    After the completion of the specified process, a window opens, indicating that the installation was successful. You just need to click on the “Finish” button.

    As you can see, this program does not provide the ability to automatically start after installation. Therefore, you will have to start it manually. There will be no shortcut on the desktop, so follow these guidelines. Click on the “Start” button and select “All Programs”.

    Look for the “Screen Resolution Manager” folder in the list of programs. Come into it. Then click on the name “Configure Screen Resolution Manager”.

    Then a window is launched in which you need to either go to entering the license code by clicking on “Unlock”, or use the free version for seven days by clicking “Try”.

    The program window opens, where direct settings of the screen resolution are made. For our purpose, we need the “Screen settings” block. Check the box next to “Apply selected screen resolution when I log on”. Make sure that in the “Screen” field there is the name of the video card that is currently used on your computer. If this is not the case, then select the desired option from the list. If your video card is not displayed in the list, then click on the “Identify” button to carry out the identification procedure. Further, by dragging the “Resolution” slider to the left or to the right, select the screen resolution that you think is necessary. If desired, in the “Frequency” field, you can also change the refresh rate of the screen. To apply the settings, click “OK”.

    Then restart your computer. If you are using the trial version of the program, after rebooting, the Screen Resolution Manager start window will open again. Click on the “Try” button and the screen will be set to the previously selected resolution.

  • Now, if you next time you want to change the resolution using the Screen Resolution Manager, it will be much easier to do it. The program is registered in autorun and constantly works in the tray. To make adjustments, just go to the tray and right-click (RMB) on its icon in the form of a monitor. A list of monitor resolution options opens. If the desired option is missing, then hover the cursor over the item “”. An additional list will open. Click on the required item. The screen settings will immediately change, and this time you don’t even have to restart your computer.
  • The main disadvantage of this method is that the free term of using the Screen Resolution Manager program is limited to only a week. In addition, this application is not Russified.

    Using the graphics card software

    The screen parameter we are studying can also be changed using the video card manufacturer’s software, which is installed with it and serves to control it. In the overwhelming majority of cases, this type of program is installed on the computer along with the video card drivers. Let’s see how to change the display settings in Windows 7, using the software designed to control the NVIDIA video card.

      To run the corresponding utility, move to the “Desktop” and click on it with the right mouse button. In the drop-down list, select “NVIDIA Control Panel”.

    There is another way to run this tool. By default, the utility always runs in the background. To activate its control window, go to the tray and click on the “NVIDIA Settings” icon.

    Either procedure launches the NVIDIA Control Panel window. On the left side of the window is the “Select a task” area. Click on the item “Change resolution” located in it, located in the group of settings “Display”.

    A window opens, in the central part of which various options for the screen resolution are presented. You can highlight the option that suits you in the “Resolution” area. In the “Refresh rate” field, you can select from the list the refresh rate of the display. After setting the settings, click “Apply”.

  • The screen will go out for a moment, and then will light up again with the new parameters. A dialog box appears. If you want to apply these parameters on an ongoing basis, then in this case you need to have time to click on the “Yes” button before the timer expires. Otherwise, after the timer expires, the settings will automatically return to the previous state.
  • The NVIDIA Control Panel has a very interesting feature that allows you to set the resolution even if it is not supported in the standard monitor settings.

    Attention! When making subsequent actions, you need to understand that you are performing the procedure at your own peril and risk. It is even possible that the actions described below may harm the monitor.

    • In our case, the maximum monitor resolution is 1600 × 900. It will not be possible to establish a large value by standard methods. We will try to set the indicator to 1920 × 1080 using the NVIDIA Control Panel. To proceed to changing the parameters, click on the button “Settings”.

    A window opens, where a number of additional parameters are presented that we did not observe in the main window. Their number can be increased by checking the box, which is unchecked by default, opposite the item “Show 8-bit and 16-bit resolution”. In order to add the selected combinations to the main window, just put a checkmark in front of them and click “OK”.

    After the values are displayed in the main window, to apply them, you need to perform the same procedure that was already discussed above.

    But, as it is easy to see, in this additional window the parameters of a rather low quality are set. They are not displayed in the main window simply because they are rarely used. Developers simply want to avoid cluttering the main NVIDIA Control Panel window with rarely-used, low-quality settings. We have the opposite task. to create a resolution higher than in the standard settings. To do this, click “Create custom permission”.

    The window for creating custom settings opens. Here you need to act very carefully, since it was already mentioned above, incorrect actions in this section can entail disastrous consequences for the monitor and for the system. We pass to the block of settings “Display mode (as reported by Windows)”. The fields of this block display the current vertical and horizontal screen resolution in pixels, as well as the refresh rate in hertz. Drive the values that you need into these fields. In our case, since the parameter should be set to 1920 × 1080, enter the value “1920” in the “Pixels horizontally” field, and “1080” in the field “Lines vertically”. Now click “Test”.

    If the specified values do not exceed the technical capabilities of the monitor, a dialog box will be displayed, which will say that the test was successful. In order to save the parameters, in this window, before the timer expires, press “Yes”.

    You are returned to the parameter change window. The parameter we created is displayed in the list in the “Custom” group. To enable it, check the box next to it and click “OK”.

    READ  Take A Photo To The Home Screen

    We automatically return to the main NVIDIA Control Panel window. As you can see, the created parameter is also displayed here in the “Custom” group. In order to enable it, make a selection of the value, and then click “Apply”.

  • Then a dialog box will appear in which you must confirm the configuration change before the timer expires by pressing the “Yes” button.
  • All of the above applies to computers and laptops with a discrete adapter from NVIDIA. Owners of AMD video cards can perform similar manipulations using one of the “native” programs. AMD Radeon Software Crimson (for modern graphics cards) or AMD Catalyst Control Center (for older models).

    PowerStrip

    Another third-party program with which you can solve this problem is PowerStrip. It is much more powerful than the previous one and specializes mainly in overclocking a video card and changing all kinds of its parameters, but it also allows you to solve the problem posed in this article.

      The Power Strip installation has a number of features, so it makes sense to dwell on it in more detail. After you have downloaded and run the installation file, a window for accepting the license agreement opens immediately. To accept it, check the box next to “I agree with the above terms and conditions”. Then click “Next”.

    After that, a list of operating systems and video cards supported by the program opens. It is recommended to check in advance if the name of your OS and video card is in the list, so as not to install the utility in vain. It must be said right away that PowerStrip supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. So the owner of this OS can only check the presence of a video card in the list. If you find the required parameters, then click “Next”.

    Then a window opens in which the program installation directory is indicated. By default, this is the PowerStrip folder in the shared program directory on drive C. It is not recommended to change this setting unless there is a specific reason. Click “Start” to start the installation procedure.

    The installation procedure is in progress. After that, a window opens asking if you want to add some additional entries to the Windows system registry for more correct operation of the program. To do this, click “Yes”.

    Then a window opens in which you can adjust the display of utility icons in the Start menu and on the Desktop. This can be done by checking or unchecking the checkboxes opposite the “Create a PowerStrip program group in the Start menu” for the “Start” menu (enabled by default) and “Place a shortcut to PowerStrip on the desktop” for the “Desktop” (disabled by default). After specifying these settings, click “OK”.

    After that, to complete the installation of the program, you will be prompted to restart the computer. First save all open but not saved documents and close running programs. Then, to activate the system restart procedure, click “Yes” in the dialog box.

    After restarting the PC, the utility will be installed. It is registered in the autostart in the system registry, so that when the system boots, it will automatically start working in the background. For our purposes, click on its icon in the RMB tray. In the list that opens, move the cursor to the “Display Profiles” item. In the additional list, click on “Configure”.

    The “Display Profiles” window is launched. We will be interested in the “Resolution” settings block. Set the desired value by dragging the slider in this block to the left or right. In this case, the value in pixels will be displayed in the field below. In the same way, by moving the slider in the “Refresh rate” block, you can change the refresh rate of the screen. The corresponding value in hertz is displayed to the right of the slider. After all the settings are done, click “Apply” and “OK”.

  • After that, the display parameters will be changed to the specified.
  • Changing the screen resolution in Windows 7

    It’s no secret that for different monitors, the best is a different screen resolution, which indicates the number of dots on the display. The higher the value, the better the image quality. But, unfortunately, not all monitors are capable of correctly supporting high-resolution work. In addition, some users deliberately lower it in order to get better computer performance instead of beautiful graphics. Also, changing this parameter is required to perform a number of specific tasks. Let’s see how to configure the resolution in different ways on Windows 7.

    Ways to change the resolution

    All available methods for changing this display setting on Windows 7 can be divided into three groups:

    • Application of third-party software;
    • Using the video card software;
    • Using built-in operating system tools.

    At the same time, even when using methods with built-in OS tools, you can use different options. Let’s talk about each of them in more detail.

    Using built-in system tools

    But the task can also be solved using only the built-in tools of the system. over, most users have enough of their functionality.

      Click Start. Next, select “Control Panel”.

    Then click “Appearance and Personalization”.

    In a new window, in the “Screen” section, select the “Adjust screen resolution” option.

    There is another option to get into the window we need. To do this, right-click on “Desktop”. Select “Screen Resolution” from the list.

    When using any of the described algorithms, a standard tool for changing the screen parameter we are studying opens. The “Resolution” field shows the current value. To change it, click on this field.

    A list of options opens with a slider. To increase the quality of the displayed material, drag the slider up, to decrease. down. At the same time, the value of the slider position in pixels will be displayed in the field. After the slider is set opposite the desired value, click on it.

    The selected value is displayed in the field. In order to apply it, click “Apply” and “OK”.

  • The screen will turn off momentarily. After that, the selected parameters will be applied. In the window that appears, you need to click on the “Save changes” button before the timer ends, otherwise the screen settings will roll back to their previous values.
  • You can change the screen resolution either by using third-party programs or software that comes with the video card, or by using the built-in tools of the operating system. over, in most cases, the capabilities that the OS provides are quite enough to satisfy the needs of most users. It makes sense to refer to third-party software or video card settings only if you need to set a resolution that does not fit into the standard range, or apply parameters that are not in the basic settings.

    Windows 10 screen resolution issues

    We learned how to see the screen resolution on Windows 10 and the reasons why the resolution may be wrong, but what to do if the screen resolution of Windows 10 is out of order.?

    Before changing it, first of all, you need to check the video card driver, since it is the main link in this problem. Open Device Manager (WinX or type devmgmt.msc in Run WinR window) We need the Video Adapters tab.

    Here we can see all the video cards of the device. On devices with a discrete video card, 2 of them are displayed (built-in and discrete), if the processor has a video core.

    The discrete video card prevails over the integrated one, as it has higher performance and memory. If it is disabled, the computer will continue to work on the built-in one without any problems. The built-in video card is much weaker than the discrete one and part of the memory for processing graphic information is provided from the operating system. That is why, on some laptops, RAM is displayed slightly less than it actually is (not to be confused with the problem of the system capacity, when the x32 system “sees” a maximum of 3.5 GB of memory).

    We will distribute the emerging problems as they come in and the ease of solution:

    Sometimes, users ask a question. “After updating Windows 10, the screen resolution has changed, what should I do?” The solution is actually quite simple, you don’t even have to install the previous version of the driver and download it. The fact is that this most often happens after installing major updates, as a result of which the system is installed, but with the preservation of data and applications.

    change, screen, resolution, windows

    As a result, the installation of the video card may fail and in order not to interrupt the entire process, the driver is reset.

    • Open Device Manager. Video adapters and select Update driver for the correct video card.
    • Then select “Search this computer”.
    • Then, “Select from the list of installed”.

    After that, a list of versions previously installed on this PC will be displayed. By choosing a driver with an earlier version or date, you can solve this problem.

    It is worth noting that system optimizers and cleaners can delete unused and previous versions of “firewood”, but this happens in the “deep cleaning” mode.

    If after reinstalling the system, when connecting to the Internet and downloading updates, the video driver is not installed on its own, then you can use this advice. We will perform the installation from the manufacturer’s website. There are 2 major manufacturers AMD and Nvidia on the market, and also the processor manufacturer Intel, which most often has an integrated video core Intel HD Graphics. First of all, in the device manager, we determine the model and go to the manufacturer’s website.

    • AMD (also a division of ATI purchased by this company). Download;
    • Nvidia. Download;
    • Intel HD. Download.

    It is necessary to select the required model from the list and load it. If the video card appears as an unknown device, you can also download an application that can detect the device model and download the required driver version.

    Or the easiest option for the lazy. Download any Driver Pack application (DPS, Driver Booster and others) and wait for the application to find and install everything by itself.

    In practice, there have been cases when the driver was installed with failures, as a result of which the settings did not change, and reinstalling the driver did not change anything. In this case, a clean install can help, you can do it in 2 ways.

    • Clean installation of the driver. Download the installer from the previous stage and select “Perform a clean installation” when choosing the installation type, in this case the old driver will be completely changed to the new one.
    • Clean reinstallation of the driver. If the installer does not imply a clean installation, you can perform it yourself using the Display Driver Uninstaller utility. You can download it from the Guru3D website. After running the utility, select “Uninstall and reboot” after which you can install the driver again.

    Windows 10 screen resolution lost: reasons

    The driver of the video card is responsible for the screen resolution and its change, if it is not in the computer, the so-called “integrated video card in the processor” or the video core is responsible for this. It is he who determines the list of available parameters and chooses the necessary. There are several cases when these parameters are reset and need to be changed:

    • Reinstall Windows;
    • Major Windows update released;
    • Incorrect installation of the video card driver;

    After these steps, the resolution may change to standard parameters, which will interfere with the comfortable work with the device.

    You can find out the screen resolution on Windows 10. in several ways:

    • Through Windows Settings. Parameters. System. Display;
    • Pressing RMB (Right Mouse Button) and select Display Settings;
    • In the application settings for the video card.

    There are times when the screen resolution does not change on Windows 10, the drop-down menu with a list may simply not be available. Also, the standard video driver may offer several options that most likely will not fit your monitor, such as 800×600 or 1024×768. At the same time, when Windows 10 does not have the required screen resolution, you cannot put your own custom one, because for each display there is the desired ratio and recommended settings.

    Divorces when buying and selling an iPhone on Avito: new deception schemes

    For comfortable use of the system and display of all interface elements, the screen resolution should be set to match the parameters of the monitor or display. When reinstalling the system or after installing major updates, the interface may be too large and inconvenient. In this article, we will describe all the convenient ways to change the screen resolution in Windows 10.

    Solution of problems

    Below we have compiled a list of monitor resolution issues that PC users encounter in Windows 10:

      The first most common problem is old video card drivers. Usually Windows 10 will automatically look for graphics card updates. But if the computer is not connected to the Internet, there will be no automatic update of video card drivers.

    In this chapter, we have described the most common problems that lead to incorrect display resolutions and stretched images. If you adhere to all the recommendations presented in this chapter, then you will surely solve the problem.

    Setting the correct resolution using the graphics driver

    In this chapter, we will look at ways to change monitor resolution using video card drivers. Driver change of monitor settings is especially important when Windows 10 does not see such ultra-high resolution formats as “Full HD (1920×1080) and Ultra HD 4K (3840×2160)”. First, we’ll take a look at AMD’s Radeon graphics card driver. A new driver package called Radeon Software Crimson Edition is now available for all current AMD graphics adapters. To go to the monitor settings, in this package you need to go to the context menu of the desktop and select the item “Radeon Settings”.

    After this action, we will get to the main settings panel, in which we are interested in the “Display” tab.

    change, screen, resolution, windows

    On this tab, you need to follow the link “Additional settings”. After this action, the advanced settings of the video card will open.

    In advanced settings, go to the item “Properties (VGA-screen)”, which will open such a window.

    In this window, we are interested in the “Monitor Properties” block. In this block, we need to uncheck “Use EDID”. After this action, we will be able to independently set the size from low to ultra-high resolution of the screen.

    Now let’s look at setting up a monitor using the NVIDIA graphics driver. To open the NVIDIA panel, just like in the case of the Radeon, let’s go to the desktop context menu. In the context menu, select the item “NVIDIA Control Panel”.

    After that, the Nvidia panel will open, where we are interested in the item “Change resolution”.

    In the opened window of the item “Change Resolution” you can clearly find out what resolution we can set for a given monitor model. If you want to fine-tune the monitor resolution, use the Customize button.

    In this chapter, we covered the setup for the main video cards currently on the market. The examples show that it is not difficult to adjust the monitor resolution using drivers.

    We set the monitor resolution with built-in Windows 10 tools

    You can adjust the correct screen resolution using Windows 10 itself. In this example, to solve our problem, we will take a Samsung S19D300N monitor, which has a TN matrix resolution of 1366 × 768 pixels. Windows 10 can solve the stretched image problem in two ways.

    For the first method, we need to go to the new “Options” panel.

    This can be done in the “Start” menu by clicking on the “Options” item. In the “Parameters” panel that opens, click the “System” link. This action will transfer us to the “Screen” item we need in the window that opens.

    Now in this window we need to go to the very bottom link “Additional screen parameters”.

    In the window that opens, we are interested in the “Resolution” block. In the image you can find out that this block has a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels, and we need to set it to 1366 × 768 pixels. To change the resolution to the correct one, we will click on the drop-down list and select the correct item “1366 x 768 (recommended)”. This list also shows how the resolution changes from smaller to the recommended resolution.

    After these actions, you need to confirm them. To do this, click the Apply button. At this stage, the setting in the first way ends.

    For the second method, we need to go to the control panel, which is familiar to many users. To quickly switch to it in Windows 10, a special menu is provided, which opens with the WIN X key combination. In the “Control Panel” we need to go to such links “Appearance and Personalization”. “Screen”. “Screen Resolution”. These actions will open the panel window, which we need.

    In this window, we are interested in the “Resolution” block. In the image above, you can find out that the monitor resolution is 1280 × 720 pixels, and our Samsung S19D300N supports 1366 × 768 pixels. To solve our problem, we need to increase the resolution of the Samsung S19D300N monitor to 1366 × 768 pixels. Therefore, we will click on the drop-down list and set the monitor resolution we need.

    As in the first method, after the performed actions, we confirm them with the Apply button. From the examples, you can learn that setting the correct screen resolution is a snap, and any PC user can cope with this task.

    How to change the screen resolution of a computer in Windows 10

    In this article, we will tell our readers how to change the screen resolution in Windows 10. The Windows 10 operating system is new, so PC users have problems with the recommended resolution, which is set automatically. Most of the screen resolution problems are observed on older monitors and rarely on new ones. Problems usually manifest themselves with a highly stretched image on the display, which is very uncomfortable to work with a computer. This is due to driver support for both the monitor and the graphics adapter. In order to solve the problem with a stretched image and the wrong resolution, we have prepared examples where we will describe their detailed solution.

    In this article, we answered the question of how to change the screen resolution in Windows 10 in various ways. We have also described a list of issues that affect monitor resolution. We hope that our material will be useful for you, and you can solve the problem with the stretched image and the wrong resolution.

    Changing the screen resolution in Windows 10

    Typically Windows 10 automatically adjusts the screen resolution settings to suit the requirements of the display itself. However, it also happens that the default resolution does not match the physical parameters of the monitor itself, or it is uncomfortable for the user. In this case, you can easily set a comfortable screen resolution for you in the operating system settings.

    Intel HD Graphics Options

    Since Intel is also engaged in the release of integrated graphics processors, it also has a corresponding utility that should be responsible for graphics settings. Instructions for using it are as follows:

      Right-click on an empty space on the desktop and select “Graphics Characteristics” from the context menu. The Intel logo should be located next to it.

    In the main menu with settings, click on the item “Display”.

    Expand the tab “Basic” and under the inscription “Resolution” select the one you need from the context menu. You can also set other parameters here, for example, the refresh rate of the image.

    AMD Catalyst Control Center

    This option is suitable for those users who have a video card from AMD installed and also have the corresponding drivers. Usually, in this case, this program will be built into the system by default and you do not need to install anything additionally.

    The instructions for this method are as follows:

      Right-click on any free space on your desktop. Select “AMD Catalyst Control Center” option from the context menu.

    In the program interface, you need to open the item “Desktop Management”.

    Now go to “Desktop Properties”.

    Next, in the “Desktop Areas” field, you need to select the required resolution from the options presented. Additionally, in the same window, you can specify the color quality, image orientation and screen refresh rate. Above you can see the current desktop settings.

    • In order for all the necessary elements to be displayed correctly, in the upper part opposite the “View” item, set the value “Large icons”.
    • Find the “Display” parameter among the presented items.
    • On the left side of the window, find and click on “Adjust Screen Resolution”.
    • In the next window, set the required screen resolution and apply the changes.

    NVIDIA Control Center

    The situation is similar for the owners of computers with a video card from NVIDIA:

    • A special program must already be built into the system that allows you to change the resolution of the computer screen, as well as make other settings for the image transmission. Right-click an empty area on the desktop. From the context menu, select NVIDIA Control Panel (also known as NVIDIA Control Center).
    • Now, in the program window that opens, open the “Display” branch in the left menu.
    • Then select from the presented items in the branch “Change resolution”.
    • Here, as in the program from AMD, you need to select the required resolution in a separate window, which bears the signature of the same name. Additionally, here you can adjust the refresh rate of the image on the screen and the color rendition.
  • Apply the specified settings.
  • How to change the screen resolution in Windows 10

    There are several methods for changing the display resolution in the Windows 10 operating system. Some of them involve the use of third-party programs, while others involve the use of only built-in tools.

    Possible problems

    Unfortunately, the process of changing the screen resolution in Windows 10 does not always go smoothly. Here is a list of the main problems that can arise, as well as ways to solve them:

    • Due to missing or outdated drivers for video cards, the screen resolution may not change, since the necessary settings simply will not be available or they will not be applied. You can automatically update drivers using special programs, for example, DriverPack Solution, DriverHub, etc.;
    • There are some monitors for which you need to download a separate driver. Otherwise, the settings for changing the resolution will not be applied correctly. You can find the driver you need for your monitor on the manufacturer’s official website, try to install it using the programs mentioned above, and also find them by the hardware ID number;
    • There may be a problem with the adapter or adapter that connects the monitor to the computer. Try replacing them and check if you managed to change the resolution on the display;
    • If after changing the resolution, the image quality has deteriorated significantly, then try changing the settings in the “Display” section. As a rule, such a problem occurs in the event that the changes you made do not correspond to the recommended settings for the computer display.

    When connecting a second monitor, the resolution you set earlier may get confused. You can fix it according to the following instructions:

    • Right-click on an empty space on the desktop. From the context menu, select the “Display Options” option.
    • Next, go to the “Graphics adapter properties” section.
    • Here you need to click on the “List of all modes” button.
    • Choose the one that suits you best among the available modes.

    Thus, you can easily adjust the monitor resolution in Windows 10 to suit your needs. There is nothing complicated about it.

    Why you can’t change the screen resolution

    As a standard, you can change the resolution in Windows 10 in the settings by right-clicking on an empty spot on the desktop, selecting “Display settings” (or in Settings. System. Display). However, sometimes the resolution selection is not active or there is only one selection option in the list of permissions (it is also possible when the list is present, but it does not have the correct permission).

    There are several main reasons why the screen resolution may not change in Windows 10, which will be discussed in more detail below.

    • Lack of the required video card driver. At the same time, if you clicked “Update driver” in the device manager and received a message that the most suitable drivers for this device are already installed, this does not mean that you have and installed the correct driver.
    • Video card driver malfunctions.
    • Using poor-quality or damaged cables, adapters, converters to connect the monitor to the computer.

    Other options are possible, but these are more common than others. Let’s move on to ways to rectify the situation.

    Windows 10 screen resolution does not change

    If you need to change the screen resolution in Windows 10, it is almost always very simple to do this, and the necessary steps were described in the article How to change the screen resolution of Windows 10. However, in some cases, a problem is possible. the resolution does not change, the item for changing it in the parameters is not active. as well as additional methods of change do not work.

    In this manual, in detail about what to do if the screen resolution does not change Windows 10, how to fix the problem and return the ability to adjust the resolution on the computer and laptop, if possible.

    How to fix the problem

    Now, on the points about various ways to fix the situation when you cannot change the screen resolution. The first step is to check if everything is ok with the drivers.

    • Go to the Windows 10 Device Manager (to do this, you can right-click on the “Start” button and select the desired item in the context menu).
    • In Device Manager, open the “Display Adapters” section and see what is listed there. If it is Microsoft Basic Display or the Display Adapters section is missing, but the Other Devices section contains a Video Controller (VGA Compatible), the video driver is not installed. If the correct graphics card is listed (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel), you should still follow the next steps.
    • Always remember (not only in this situation) that right-clicking on the device in the device manager and selecting the “Update driver” item and the subsequent message that the drivers for this device are already installed say only that on Microsoft servers and in your Windows no other drivers, not that you have the correct driver installed.
    • Install the native driver. For a discrete video card on a PC. from the NVIDIA or AMD website. For a PC with an integrated video card. from the website of the motherboard manufacturer for your MP model. For a laptop. from the laptop manufacturer’s website for your model. In this case, for the last two cases, install the driver even if it is not the newest on the official website and there is no driver for Windows 10 (install for Windows 7 or 8, if it is not installed, we try to run the installer in compatibility mode).
    • If the installation fails, and some driver is already installed (i.e. not a basic video adapter and not a VGA-compatible video controller), try completely uninstalling the existing video card driver first, see How to completely uninstall a video card driver.

    As a result, if everything went smoothly, you should get the correct video card driver installed, as well as the ability to change the resolution.

    Most often, the matter is in the video drivers, but other options are also possible, and, accordingly, the ways to fix it:

    • If the monitor is connected through some kind of adapter, or you recently purchased a new connection cable, this could be the problem. Other connection options are worth trying. If there is some kind of additional monitor with a different connection interface, you can conduct an experiment on it: if, when working with it, the choice of resolution is possible, then the matter is clearly in the cables or adapters (less often in the connector on the monitor).
    • Check if the choice of resolution appears after restarting Windows 10 (it is important to perform the restart, not shutdown and power on). If yes, install all chipset drivers from the official site. If the problem persists, try disabling Windows 10 Fast Startup.
    • If the problem appears spontaneously (for example, after a game), there is a way to restart the video card drivers using the Win Ctrl Shift B keyboard shortcut (however, you can end up with a black screen until a forced restart).
    • If the problem persists, check the NVIDIA Control Panel, AMD Catalyst Control Panel, or Intel HD Control Panel (Intel Graphics) to see if the screen resolution can be changed there.

    I hope the guide was helpful and one of the ways will help you get back the ability to change the screen resolution to Windows 10.
