Turning off the display on a desktop is easy, but how do you do it on a laptop? All laptops have function keys to change screen brightness, but you cannot use them to turn off the screen.
Why is it sometimes necessary to just turn off the screen and not turn off or hibernate the laptop? When your laptop’s battery is low, you can turn off the laptop’s display while performing certain operations (downloading or copying files) to conserve battery life, as the screen consumes a significant amount of battery power. The easiest way is to press the combination “WinL” before leaving. Or in the start menu, in the shutdown section, select not shutdown, but blocking.
You can make the necessary changes yourself so that the system itself takes security measures from someone else’s intrusion. Often the user himself does not know everything about the capabilities of his gadget. The chain of actions will allow you to find out:
Now you don’t have to worry that someone will look into the screen in the absence of the owner and find out information that is not intended for strangers.
How to disable screen lock on a laptop
Automatically turning off your monitor after a specified period of inactivity is one of the standard, programmed features found on most modern computers running Windows. The idea behind this shutdown is to reduce power consumption and increase the life of the display. This option on the computer can be either disabled or configured.
Power supply setup
If you need to turn off the blocking function on the Windows 7 operating system, for this you need to do the following steps:
- Press the Win key on the keyboard or with the mouse cursor the “Start” button located in the lower left corner of the Desktop.
- After that, in the command line, write the word “pitan”, the system will find files and functions that have this word in their names. From the options that appear, find the component named “Screen Off Settings”. To open, click on it with the left mouse button.
- Then a window will appear in which there are all the power settings of your screen that are valid for changing. Here you can change: the time after which the image will darken and turn off, the brightness of the image and after how long the computer will go into “sleep” mode. If you are using Windows 7 on a laptop, you will be shown setting up several power modes at once. Opposite the phrase: “Turn off the display” in the drop-down list, select the lowest answer option. “Never”. For laptops, you can set up separately for two cases: AC power, battery power.
- The same must be done with the function “Put the computer to sleep”.
- To commit the new parameters you have set, click on the Save changes button.
Disable the lock screen
If you have a password set in the operating system, so that when you turn on the computer or after waking up from “sleep” mode, Windows 7 does not constantly ask you for a password, you need to do the following:
- Go to Start again.
- Go to the “Control Panel” section, which are located in the right column.
- In the window that appears, find the name of the “System and Security” section and click on it.
- In the next window, select the category “Power supply”.
- In the window that appears, in the left column, select the section called “Request a password on wakeup”. (You can go here in a simpler way: enter the phrase “password request” in the search bar of the Control Panel, press Enter. And then select the desired item from the list).
- We put a tick in front of the phrase: “Do not ask for a password”, and then click save changes.
Now you will not have Windows locked and a password prompt appears on the screen when you wake up from sleep mode.
How to disable antivirus
Removing the anti-virus shield is very easy. Another thing that should be remembered that even the protection removed for a few minutes can lead to the penetration of formidable “pests” that will immediately begin to destroy the contents of the memory and disable the computer.
But suppose it is really necessary. Then:
- Open the “Start” menu, then the “Control Panel” section.
Thus, there is nothing difficult in removing the lock, no matter what operating system is on the computer. In all cases, you only need to confirm the actions and, if necessary, restart the device. It is also worth remembering that it is better not to turn off the antivirus even if it seems necessary. this can lead in the next few minutes to serious consequences that a regular user cannot cope with.

The computer lock screen in Windows 10, in addition to its direct function, also performs an informational role: it displays the date and time, notifications from some applications.
After a long period of inactivity, the Windows screen locks. In this case, the user will have to enter the password for his account in order to re-enter the operating system and continue using it.
In some cases, such an order is not always convenient, and also not necessary, for example, when the computer is used by only one user at home.
Disabling the lock screen directly from Windows will not work, there is no such function in the user settings. To disable the lock screen, we will use the local group policy editor or the system registry editor

How to turn off the screen in Windows 10
This instruction contains ways to completely disable the lock screen in Windows 10, taking into account that the previously present option to do this in the local group policy editor does not work in the professional version of 10, starting with version 1607 (and was absent in the home version). This was done, I believe, for the same purpose as disabling the ability to change the option “Windows 10 consumer experience”, namely in order to show us advertisements and proposed applications. Update 2017: in version 1703 Creators Update, the option in gpedit is present.
Do not confuse the login screen (where we enter the password to disable it, see How to disable the password when logging into Windows 10 and waking up from sleep) and the lock screen, which shows cute wallpapers, time and notifications, but can also show ads (just for Russia, apparently, there are no advertisers yet). Further, we are talking about disabling the lock screen (which can be called by pressing the WinL keys, where Win is the key with the Windows logo).
Note: if you don’t want to do everything manually, you can turn off the lock screen using the free Winaero Tweaker program (the parameter is located in the Boot and Logon section of the program).
Using BlackTop to Turn Off Windows 10 Laptop Screen
BlackTop is a small utility that allows you to turn off your monitor using a keyboard shortcut. When launched, the program is in the system tray. To turn off the screen, you just need to use the Ctrl Alt B hotkey.
Apart from all the free programs mentioned in this article, there are many free and commercial utilities available to disable the laptop display.
Basic ways to turn off Windows 10 lock screen
The two main ways to disable the lock screen include using the Local Group Policy Editor (in case you have Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise) or Registry Editor (for Windows 10 Home, works for Pro as well), the methods are suitable for Creators Update.
The method with the Local Group Policy Editor looks like this:
- Press the WinR keys, type gpedit.msc into the Run window and press Enter.
- In the local group policy editor that opens, go to the section “Computer Configuration”. “Administrative Templates”. “Control Panel”. “Personalization”.
- On the right side, find the item “Prohibit the display of the lock screen”, double-click on it and set “Enabled” to disable the lock screen (just like this. “Enabled” to disable).
Apply your settings and restart your computer. Now the lock screen will not be displayed, you will immediately see the login screen. When you press the WinL keys or when you select the “Lock” item in the “Start” menu, it will not turn on the lock screen, but the login window will open.
If Local Group Policy Editor is not available on your version of Windows 10, use the following method:
- Press the WinR keys, type regedit and press Enter. the Registry Editor will open.
- In the registry editor, go to the HLEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Policies Microsoft Windows Personalization section (if there is no Personalization subsection, create it by right-clicking on the Windows section and selecting the appropriate context menu item).
- On the right side of Registry Editor, right-click and select New. DWORD Value (including 64-bit) and set the name to NoLockScreen.
- Double click on the NoLockScreen option and set the value to 1 for it.
When finished, restart your computer. the lock screen will be disabled.
If you wish, you can also turn off the background image on the login screen: to do this, go to the settings. personalization (or right click on the desktop. personalization) and in the “Lock screen” section, turn off the item “Show the background image of the lock screen on the login screen “.
How to remove lock screen (LockApp.exe) in Windows 10
And one more, simpler, but probably less correct way. The lock screen is an application located in the C: WindowsSystemApps Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h2txyewy folder. And it is quite possible to remove it (but take your time), and Windows 10 does not show any worries about the lack of a lock screen, but simply does not show it.
Instead of deleting it just in case (so that you can easily return everything to its original form), I recommend doing the following: just rename the Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h2txyewy folder (you need administrator rights) by adding a symbol to its name (see, for example, mine in the screenshot).
This is enough for the lock screen to no longer be displayed.
At the end of the article, I note that I am personally somewhat surprised by how freely they began to slip ads in the start menu after the last big update of Windows 10 (although I noticed this only on a computer where a clean installation of version 1607 was performed): immediately after installation, I found not one or not two “proposed applications”: all sorts of Asphalt and I don’t remember what else, and new items appeared over time (it may come in handy: how to remove the proposed applications in the Windows 10 Start menu). We are promised the same on the lock screen.
This seems strange to me: Windows is the only popular “consumer” operating system that is paid for. And she is the only one that allows herself such tricks and disables the ability of users to completely get rid of them. And it doesn’t matter that now we received it as a free update. anyway, in the future, its cost will be included in the cost of a new computer, and someone will need the Retail version for more than 100 and, having paid them, the user will still be forced to put up with these “functions”.

Have you ever watched a video on a PC and the screen suddenly went blank? Or went to the kitchen, and the computer fell asleep during this time, and even requires a password upon waking up? Unpleasant, right? Let’s figure out how to avoid such nonsense.
Power management circuit
Everything related to automatically turning off the display and putting the computer into sleep mode is configured in the power settings. Similar settings in Windows 10 are available both in the Control Panel and in the Options options. The shortest way to the settings is through the “Start” button. by pressing the right mouse button from the context menu, select the “Power management” item. In previous versions of Windows, in the “Control Panel” you need to go to the “System and Security” category, then “Power supply” and “Setting the power scheme”.
There may be several schemes themselves, depending on the device. For example, for laptop users, it will be relevant to use one power supply scheme when connected to an outlet, and another when running on the built-in rechargeable battery. Each of them can be configured independently.
how to remove screen lock on Windows 10
You can do this in a simple way:
how to disable the lock screen. rename the folder “Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h3txyewy”
You can find it in the directory of the system folder (this is the LockApp.exe system application) along this path: C: \ Windows \ SystemApps
It seems that some have already guessed that all you need to do is change the name of the folder (this way it will stop working out). But you need to rename it not as you like, but just add something to the existing name, for example. a monogram. Bac
It will turn out something like this: Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h3txyewy.bac
You need to have administrator rights: they usually have a computer user
in the end, by all means, we wedge “Continue”
If we click the keyboard shortcuts WindowsKey L or simpler: WinL “exiting” from sleep mode, or hibernation mode, after our adjustments we will see the login screen instead of the lock screen.
The disadvantages of the described method, I would attribute the fact that when you reboot or start the operating system, as before, the lock screen will open. Although, perhaps, this is not a minus at all
Consider another method: (although I advise you to use the first option)

Now, if you have a laptop, go to the “Conditions” tab and uncheck the box on starting the task only when powered from the mains.
That’s it, we save the task, and the lock screen will no longer appear. there will be a password entry window right away.

How to remove the lock screen in Windows 10?
With the transition to a new version of the popular operating system, users have noticed many different innovations that have affected the interface or functionality of the OS.
One of the most notable changes is the lock screen, which was missing in previous versions of Windows. Despite the lack of a corresponding feature in the standard OS settings, it is quite possible to remove this screen.
Disable the lock screen
Since the developer of this system did not provide users with the ability to turn off the screen through the standard settings, you will need to perform all the manipulations manually.
There are two methods for fixing this element. editing the registry or renaming the folder. In view of the fact that the latter is noticeably simpler and accessible even to beginners, it makes sense to disassemble it in more detail.
- Open Explorer and go to the SystemApps folder located in the Windows folder;
- Next, you should run a folder search to find an application file named Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h3txyewy;
- After that, you need to either delete it or rename it, which will lead to the complete disappearance of the lock screen.
Changing the file name can be symbolic, since to disable the function, it will be enough to add any character to the end of the file name. If this element is required in the future, it will be easy to restore it by removing the last character from the name.
