Where to see memory on iPhone

Very often, you need to know the memory when it seems that it is running out, or some functions or applications start to work incorrectly. Typically, in such cases, the phone prompts the user that storage resources are running low and something needs to be removed.

Another situation is buying a phone from hands or from a gray dealer. Usually people look at the basic characteristics and authenticity of the operating system, but pay absolutely no attention to memory. It is she who can be different and be a fact of deception.

Important! The technical specifications of the processor and other chips often do not change if the device is official but has been restored. But they can cheat with memory, indicating, for example, the size of 32 GB, but in fact it turns out that it is only 16 GB.

How to view memory on iPhone. detailed instructions

Modern phones must have an impressive amount of memory to store as many user files as possible. Every year people more and more go online, exchange photos, music, videos, documents and other data. It is clear that all this must be stored somewhere.

The demands on the internal memory of phones are constantly increasing. Today 32 GB and even 64 GB are not enough. Some people don’t understand how you can use a phone that doesn’t have 128GB. Despite such volumes, it is necessary to regularly check how much memory is left and how the space on the phone can be optimized. Often the need for verification also arises when the phone is purchased from hands or from an unofficial supplier. This article will explain in detail how to see how much memory is left on the iPhone and how to view RAM on iPhones.

Knowing the remaining memory on your iPhone is very useful if you do not want to face a lack of it at one point.

How to view memory on iPhone through settings, find out what is busy

If there is not much free space left on the phone, the operating system will automatically free it up when installing certain applications, offering to delete unnecessary data before that: photos, videos, music, etc.

In addition, to increase storage, the iPhone operating system may self-erase some data. These can be streaming music and videos, information from the iCloud Drive service, or unused items from programs that have not been opened for a long time. The cache and all temporary files containing data about installations, errors and OS crashes will also be deleted. In general, these are those files that are not needed or can be downloaded back without hindrance without the user’s knowledge.

The storage can be checked using the device itself of any model. The methods are divided into using the functionality of the phone or services like iCloud or iTunes. The latter will be discussed further.

How to find out the maximum storage capacity of your iPhone model

The iOS operating system analyzes each byte of space in real time and determines how much a particular program takes up and how much is occupied in general. In addition, you can find out the maximum number that is preinstalled in the phone. You can find out not only in the iPhone settings, but also through the iTunes service on a smartphone or through the Finder application on a personal computer or laptop.

Where to find storage space on iPhone

There are other ways to determine the maximum possible free or occupied space:

How to find out how much memory is left on iPhone via iTunes

For this method, you will have to install iTunes on your personal computer or laptop running Windows or Mac. If you already have it, then you can start setting up. To begin with, the gadget is connected to a PC via a regular USB cable and waiting for detection. After opening the program, you can immediately see the total amount of available memory next to the phone icon.

Note! This method does not always work, since the device may not be activated or broken. Often, the PC also cannot detect the connection of the phone due to problems with the USB port (it may be inoperative or clogged with debris and dust). This problem is also relevant for the iPhone connector (lightning).

If you select a device in iTunes, you can see a strip with different colors at the bottom of the screen. It allows you to determine how much memory is available for use, and how much is occupied by music, documents or programs.

IOS and iPadOS storage optimization

If there is little free space left on the device, the system automatically frees it up when installing applications, updating iOS or iPadOS, downloading music, recording videos, etc.

To increase storage, the system may delete some items, such as streaming music and videos, files in iCloud Drive, and unnecessary program items. In addition, temporary files are deleted and the device cache is cleared. But only items that are no longer needed or can be re-loaded are removed.

128 GB. what to do

Previously, this amount of memory seemed like a luxury, because it is eight times more than the previously standard 16 GB! But in today’s world, that’s just enough storage space for 4K videos, high-quality photos, and a music library. With such an amount of RAM, you can forever forget about eternal thoughts, what should be left and what should be deleted.

What memory does the iPhone 7 have and how to use it?

Despite the fact that the performance and technical characteristics of the device do not change with the increase in memory, it is still worth paying attention to, and in order not to make the wrong choice, you need to proceed from how the iPhone will be used. Different versions have their own advantages, so they should be discussed in more detail.

About the functions of a modern phone

Today, even in provincial cities, it is very rare to find a person who would say that he only needs a telephone for making calls. There are fewer and fewer such people every year, as the world is changing, and with it the attitude of people to the functions of various things is changing.

For a modern person, a smartphone serves not only as a means of making calls. It performs a huge number of functions that were previously simply inaccessible for mobile devices, due to the insufficient level of technology development.

Such powerful, in terms of technical characteristics, gadgets like the iPhone 7 are quickly becoming an indispensable thing for a person, due to the wide functionality that they provide.

With your iPhone, you can view emails, high-quality videos, take incredible photos, use millions of apps from the App Store, and more. The complete list will turn out to be quite large, so there is no point in listing it.

Checking storage in iTunes

This is a longer but more accurate way. Requires a computer connection and a customized iTunes program. Connect your iPhone with a lightning cable, the app will show your device’s occupied and free ROM. No need to worry about numbers: iTunes shows slightly less memory than it actually has.

The colored bar at the bottom informs what exactly the device is using: applications, music, photo and video files.

Users who connect the iPhone to a computer without setting can also find out how much memory is used by applications, photos, etc. It is enough to connect it, right-click on the iPhone icon. In the drop-down menu, the “Properties” line will appear, showing how much memory is free and how much is occupied.

Important! Apple does not recommend connecting your phone directly to your computer without installing “iTunes”.

To clean up memory, do not “dump” photos and videos to your computer by cutting or copying. Copies of images remain in backup folders created by iOS.

A quick way to check the built-in memory

For this purpose, you need an activated iPhone, its lock code. Procedure:

  • Unlock the device, open “Settings” by going to the “General” tab.
  • In the menu item “About this device” view the information on the lines “Capacity”, “Available”.
  • “Capacity” will show the size of the ROM, “Available”. the free part.

Important: more memory will be required to use Live Photos and other modern functions of iPhones.

Therefore, Apple strongly suggests storing pictures and videos on iCloud. Free storage space. only 5 GB, “upgrade” is available for additional funds. Flash drives and micro SD in iPhones are not used.

RAM

The multitasking of a modern smartphone implies parallel work in several programs and applications. The effective operation of the iPhone “here and now” is the main memory (RAM). Simultaneous opening of a large number of folders, games, applications can lead to freezing, slowdown of the operating system as a whole.

To check what programs are currently open on the iPhone, just double-click the Home button on the unlocked screen. Then you should swipe up unnecessary tabs, thereby freeing up the RAM of the smartphone.

How to check memory on iPhone: methods

Sometimes the user needs to check the memory on the iPhone. Of course, owners of expensive models don’t really care, but 16 GB sometimes runs out quickly. Are the fourth or fifth iPhones slowing down? Surely too many are busy with photos, videos and applications. When buying a device “off hand”, they suggest trusting the written information on the box. It’s not worth it, it’s better to play it safe.

The options to view the memory on the iPhone are designed so that each user chooses the most convenient for himself. Some device problems can be prevented by controlling how it uses resources.

How to check how much memory certain apps are using on iPhone and iPad

Starting with iOS 11, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch users have the ability to uninstall apps while preserving app data. Thus, when reinstalling applications, users do not need to re-install the settings. While this is a pretty useful feature, iOS reminders about low storage space clearly indicate that the best way to save memory is to uninstall apps along with their data.

But before proceeding with uninstallation, it is worth finding out which applications are taking up the most storage space. Many users have probably noticed that with active use of the iPhone, the available storage space runs out quite quickly. This is because applications continue to grow in size. This is partly due to the laziness of developers who do not optimize their programs for Apple technologies to save space, such as App Thinning and On-Demand Resources. However, App Thinning is not a magic wand that fixes the problem as smartphone screens get bigger and more pixels. As a result, more and more resources are required to support user interfaces and high-definition technologies.

How to check how much memory specific games and apps are using on iPhone and iPad

Since iOS 11, the iPhone Storage and Use tab is simply called iPhone Storage, making it easy for beginners to access this feature. This section displays information about the amount of free space on the device, how much space a particular application takes up, and offers recommendations on how to free up space.

Follow the path: “General” → “iPhone Storage” (or “iPad Storage” if we are talking about iPad).

The screen will display a list of installed applications and information about the amount of space they occupy. The most “heavy” applications will be located at the top of the list.

Tap on the desired program to get more detailed information about the size of the application and the amount of space occupied by its data (item “Documents and data”).

To free up space on your iPhone or iPad, you can uninstall the app (along with its data), including cached data and temporary files, by clicking the Uninstall App option in the summary window and then reinstalling it.

Some app content such as Music, Messages, Safari and Podcasts can be deleted directly from this screen, as shown in the images below.

As you can see, the summary window for the “Music” and “Messages” application includes additional options for deleting the downloaded tracks, both all at the same time, and each separately.

How to automatically uninstall unused apps on iPhone or iPad

Starting with iOS 11, Apple’s mobile software offers a new “Download App” option, which allows you to uninstall an application but retain its data. In addition, in the “iTunes and App Store” section in the settings, an optional “Download unused” switch has appeared, when activated, iOS will automatically unload unused programs.

READ  How To Find Out The Response Time Of The Monitor

An icon with a “cloud and arrow” icon will appear near the name of the removed (downloaded) application (details).

Apple does not specify how long an app must remain inactive for iOS to uninstall it. However, in the list of applications in the “iPhone Storage” section, there is an item “Last used”.

Unloading applications makes sense if the program itself is huge, but its data is small. Do not worry, when you reinstall the application, given that it will still be available in the App Store, all data will be restored.

Identifying iPhone model by serial number

You can also identify the iPhone model by its serial number. Unlike iPads, the serial number is not indicated on the iPhone case, so to find it you need to open Settings and go to the section “General. About this device”.

With your serial number, you can go to Apple’s Service and Support Entitlement page to find the model that matches that serial number. To do this, go to this page on Apple.com, enter the serial number, verification code and click “Continue”.

If you do everything correctly, a page will load where you can find out the model of your iPhone.

Identifying iPhone model by model number

The easiest and most reliable way to find out which iPhone model you have is to look at the model number. Knowing the model number, you can easily determine the model name. This can be done using the table on this page, or you can simply enter the model number into any search engine and examine the results.

The model number is always indicated at the bottom of the back cover of the iPhone and is represented by the inscription “Model A1429”, where “A1429” is actually the model number. The picture below shows how it looks on the iPhone 6s.

Below is a table with a list of all currently existing iPhone models and the numbers that correspond to them.

How to find out which iPhone model

Smartphones and tablets from Apple have one peculiarity: the exact model name is not indicated on their bodies. Instead, it just says iPhone or iPad. It looks nice and stylish, but in some cases it is inconvenient, since it is difficult to determine which model is in front of you. Now we will look at several ways how you can determine the iPhone model in this situation.

Identifying iPhone Model Using iTunes

Another way to find out your iPhone model is with iTunes. In order to use this method, connect your iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes. An icon of the connected device will appear in the upper left corner of the iTunes window, click it to go to the iPhone settings.

As a result, a page will appear where you can find out the iPhone model, the capacity of its internal memory, serial number and other similar information.

How to find out how much memory your iPhone is?

Hello everyone! “Why even check how much memory the iPhone has. you ask. said 32 GB, which means it is, and it’s written on the box!” That’s how it is. But, as usual, not always. this statement may have nuances. The thing is that there is a huge number of “handicraft” refurbished phones on the market (we are not talking about “official ones as new”). And when purchasing them (from not entirely honest sellers), there is a fairly high probability that you will receive a completely different amount of memory that is indicated on the box.

Imagine you paid for 64 GB, and as you use it, you discover that there are only 16. Is it insulting? Not that word! To prevent such situations from arising, we learn to quickly and accurately determine the size of the internal iPhone storage. Prepared let’s go! 🙂

By the way, an attentive reader will ask a quite reasonable question: “The blog is dedicated to the iPhone and iPad, why is it only about the iPhone in the title?” The answer will be simple. on iPad, the number of built-in gigabytes is written on the back cover. And in order to find out their number. just look at it. But with the iPhone, this is not always the case

However, if you do not trust the inscriptions, then all the listed options for determining the storage capacity are suitable for both a phone and a tablet on the iOS operating system.

View in settings

Indeed, the easiest way to find out the amount of internal memory is to look in the device settings. He will be the most truthful and reliable. they have not yet learned how to change such information in the system itself. How to do it?

  • Open “Settings”.
  • We are looking for the “Basic” tab.
  • We are interested in the item “About this device”.
  • In the “Capacity” column we see the total number of gigabytes that are available on a completely new iPhone.

Do not be surprised to find a figure there that is much less than the one that is generally accepted for the iPhone and iPad. For example, for the 16 GB version, something around 12 GB will be indicated. this is absolutely normal. Of the remaining 4 Gb, part is “eaten up” during conversion (1 Gb = 1024 megabytes), and the other part by the iOS system itself for itself and its needs.

Using iTunes

Here we need a computer and installed iTunes (where to get it and how to install it). It is enough to connect the iPhone to the PC and in the first window of the program that opens, we see brief information about the device, including data on the amount of built-in memory.

READ  How to enable map on 11 iPhone

By the way, if for some reason the connection fails, then read this article.

The considered methods are simple and reliable, but not always feasible due to the fact that the iPhone or iPad may not be activated. Therefore, we will learn how to find out the capacity of the internal storage of an iOS device without including it.

We use the serial number

Without including or even having access to the gadget, you can find out a lot of useful information about it using only one serial number. But first you need to know him. This can be done in various ways, and for those who have an unactivated and turned off iPhone in their hands, the simplest will do. we pull out the SIM card tray and see the identification number on it.

Further, it is enough just to use one of the services that I have already described in articles about all kinds of checks on the gadget (where it was bought, how to fully check it). I will not repeat myself and talk again about how to use them, just go to any of these links and use the proposed sites.

That’s all! After that, you can easily find out how much memory any iPhone has, without even including it. And a lot of other, often necessary information, which is especially important when purchasing a non-new device.

How to see the memory on the iPhone through “Settings”?

Checking memory through “Settings” is the fastest way. Proceed as follows:

Follow the path “Settings”. “General”. “About this device”.

In the subsection “About this device” find the lines “Capacity” and “Available”.

The line “Capacity” indicates how much of the total ROM memory on the iPhone, and opposite “Available” is the number of free gigabytes.

Do not be alarmed by the fact that the total amount of memory is slightly less than stated by the manufacturer. iPhone does not count the space occupied by the iOS system folder.

If you are curious about where the memory went, you can go to the “Statistics” subsection located in the “General” section.

The subsection “Statistics” also indicates the amount of free and occupied space. In addition, there is a kind of layout here, from which it becomes clear which applications consume the most megabytes.

In our example, it is obvious that the overwhelming share of the occupied space falls on the music collection.

How to find out how much memory is left on your iPhone?

The functionality of modern iPhones is very wide, however, in order to use many functions (for example, “Live Photos”), you need free memory. In this article, we will tell you about the easiest ways to take control of ROM space on iPhone.

Owners of iPhones with 128 or 256 GB do not have to worry about the fact that the gadget’s memory is full. they need to try very hard to “fill” the entire space. But the owners of devices with 16 or 32 GB can only sympathize. such small volumes of built-in memory do not allow using modern devices “to the fullest.”.

It will not be possible to expand the memory of “apple” gadgets if necessary. everyone knows that MicroSD flash drives are not installed in iPhones. Therefore, the owner of a device with a small amount of ROM must take disk space under tight control. he cannot afford to store unnecessary applications or photos from a long-forgotten picnic on his iPhone. And of course, he should periodically check how much free space on the iPhone is left. This check can be done in 2 ways.

How to find out how much memory is left on iPhone via iTunes?

To check memory through iTunes, you need to follow these steps:

Connect the device to the PC with a USB cable and start the media combine.

Go to the device management menu by pressing this button:

Pay attention to the multi-colored bar at the bottom of the screen. It reflects the state of memory of the gadget.

By hovering the mouse cursor over the segments of different colors, you can find out how much memory is used for data of one type or another (programs, music, documents).

Free space is reflected by a gray segment.

The method of checking memory through iTunes is by no means preferable: the user must look for a USB cable and run the media combine on the computer in order to get an uninformative report. It is much easier to check memory through the “Settings”: such analysis does not require access to a computer and at the same time is able to please the user with the most detailed results.
