In this article, we will take a closer look at several ways of what to do if the screen is turned over on a laptop. How to fix this situation so that everything works fine.
The previous publication was devoted to what to do if the sound on the laptop disappears. Now we will take a closer look at how to rotate the screen on a laptop using the keyboard and using Windows 10 and earlier, as simply and quickly as possible.
Important! Regardless of how many degrees the image on the display has turned upside down: 0, 90 or 180, everything can be returned to its place using this instruction.
How to flip the screen on a laptop
Disable orientation change on key presses
Click on the desktop in an empty space with the right mouse button, hover over the “Graphics Options”, then on “Key combination” and disable the option.
Now, even if you press these combinations of buttons a lot of times, nothing will happen. It is better to disable the option so that such problems do not arise in the future, especially since not everyone needs it enabled.
Change the position in Windows Settings
On a free space on the desktop, right-click and in the context menu go to the item “Display settings”.
While in the “Display” section, scroll down the page to the block with its orientation and set the value to the “Landscape” position. In Windows 7, as opposed to version 10, the design of this menu is slightly different.
Important! If an additional monitor is connected, select it by clicking on it in the same window, otherwise the orientation selection menu will be inactive.
The first thing to do is to try to press simultaneously on the combinations of buttons on the keyboard that change the screen orientation:
- CTRL ALT ←. turn left 90 degrees
- CTRL ALT →. rotate right 90 degrees
- CTRL ALT. flip 180 degrees
- CTRL ALT. image will return to default
- CTRL ALT F8. display settings will be reset to default values
Interesting! These keyboard shortcuts almost always work on laptops, especially with integrated Intel graphics and associated software installed. If you have no effect from clicking on them, then the next chapter will definitely help.
Change in driver settings
Since on laptops, by default, drivers from Intel are most often installed. let’s see how to do this using their example. In the case of Radeon and NVidia, you will need to do about the same, only the names of the menu items and their location may be slightly different.
Click on an empty space on the desktop with the right mouse button, hover over the “Graphics Options” and in the “Rotation” section, set the value. “Rotate to normal view” or 0 degrees.
You can also do this in the “Graphic characteristics” of the same context menu, open this item.
A new window will open, go to the section with the basic display settings and specify the correct values for the screen rotation. in the normal view.
Interesting! If you click on the Intel icon in the system tray, you can also perform these actions.
In laptops, this problem is more common because the Intel drivers by default enable changing the screen orientation using keyboard shortcuts. But, you can solve it quickly with the help of this instruction.

How to flip the screen on a laptop
Quite often, laptop users are faced with a situation where the image on the screen randomly flips over. All icons and programs are displayed upside down.
This can happen by coincidence. For example, you could press a certain key combination or click on the video adapter icon and change the settings in it.
In this article, we will look at several methods on how to flip the screen on a laptop. We will learn how to use the settings of the graphics adapter (video driver), keyboard shortcuts and special programs to change the orientation. Towards the end of the lesson, I will show several ways to rotate an image on a laptop WEB-camera.
Right click on the Start menu and open “Device Manager”.

To launch the utility, right-click on a free area of the desktop. In the menu that appears, select “Graphics Specifications”, “NVIDIA Control Panel” or “AMD Catalyst Control Center”.
The name of the menu item depends on which utility is installed. And this, in turn, depends on the manufacturer of the graphics adapter (video card) in the PC.
Then expand the image in the program settings:
- Graphics Specifications (Intel HD Graphics): Display. Rotate.
- NVIDIA Control Panel: Display. Display Rotation.
- AMD Catalyst Control Center: Common Display Tasks. Rotate desktop.
Next, I’ll show you how to do this in each program. If you could not find any of them, most likely there is no video driver on the computer or there are some problems with it. I recommend downloading and installing the new version. this will provide a clearer image and increase performance in games and graphics.
Read about installing and updating drivers in this article.

How to flip the screen
In this tutorial, I will show you how to flip the screen on a laptop. Let’s consider several ways: through Windows parameters and video driver settings.
Intel HD Graphics
Intel HD Graphics is a family of integrated graphics adapters used in Intel processors. In simple terms, this is an integrated graphics card. It is usually found in laptops that do not have an additional graphics card.
Press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl Alt one of the arrows (← →).
in the taskbar
- In the system tray (about hours) right click on the icon.
- Hover your cursor over Graphics Options. Rotation. Select a value: 90, 180 or 270 degrees.
How to rotate the screen image
Sometimes, when you press certain keys on the keyboard, the image on the monitor may turn over, thus you will not be able to read something on the computer or even watch a video. Therefore, let’s figure out how to flip the screen on a computer or laptop (which device does not matter, the settings will not differ, it depends only on the video card).
Once upon a time I encountered this problem and was a little shocked, because I saw this for the first time. But in fact, there was a problem in setting up Windows. Let’s now go through these settings and make sure that all the parameters are set correctly. Yes, if you do this for the first time, then you will definitely not feel the comfort of this procedure. After all, it is very difficult to control a mouse with such a screen (for example, if you move the mouse to the left, then it will move down, right or up), in general, you yourself will understand everything when you start doing.
Here’s a video I found for those who haven’t figured it out yet:
If you are not looking for a solution to the problem of how to rotate the screen on a computer, but just want to play a trick on your friend or colleague, then I can assure you that the joke will turn out 100%. Proven by experience! Eh, those were good times in college and university.
Windows XP, NVIDIA operating system and hotkeys
Let’s consider the option of how to flip the screen on a computer if the first method cannot be applied (for example, if you have Windows XP or earlier) or if your computer has a graphics card from NVIDIA.
To correct the current position of the screen, right-click on the desktop and select “NVIDIA Control Panel” from the drop-down list. This panel can also be opened by clicking on the NVIDIA company icon in the tray and choosing “Open NVIDIA Control Panel” or used by the Control Panel, which can be opened through “Start”.
So, let’s go to the NVIDIA control panel. On the left we see a fairly extensive list of all kinds of tasks that the control panel performs. But we are interested in the rotation of the display. In the Display category, select Display Rotation. The menu is divided into two parts. In the first, we can choose which display to flip (this is the case if you have multiple monitors installed), and in the second part of the menu, we can choose the orientation of the display. After confirming the choice of orientation, we will receive an inverted image with you.
Also, if you are using any version of Windows, you can use the hotkeys: Alt Ctrl and press the desired arrow. For example, if you need to rotate the screen clockwise, then press Alt Ctrl right arrow.
The very first thing I can offer you is to look at the orientation settings. To do this, right-click on the desktop, select “Screen Resolution” in the drop-down list. In the window that opens, find the “Orientation” column. The default is Landscape. But you have the opportunity to choose one of the options offered: Landscape (inverted) or Portrait (inverted).
Confirm your choice with the “OK” or “Apply” button and you’re done! You have a screen upside-down to your liking.!
If your laptop has an Intel graphics card, then this procedure is slightly different from the one described above (NVIDIA). Let me show you how to flip the screen on a laptop with this video card.
So, when you right-click on the desktop, the drop-down list will display the “Graphics Options” item. When you hover the mouse pointer over it, a menu opens, in which you need to find the “Rotate” item, in which you select how many degrees you want to rotate the image. Note that the angle is calculated counterclockwise.
There is another way how to flip the screen on a laptop with an Intel graphics card installed. through the graphics control panel and Intel Media. There are two ways to open this panel: by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting “Graphics characteristics”, or by clicking any mouse button on the “Intel HD Graphics” tray icon and also clicking “Graphics characteristics”. In the control panel, select the “Display” section, the “Basic settings” subsection and in the “Rotation” column, set the desired image rotation angle.
For those who did not manage to use any of the methods from the article, I can recommend the iRotate program to you. It can rotate the screen as you need, but requires installation on your device.
These are, in principle, all the main points of how to flip the screen on a laptop or computer. I think you will solve your problem. If the article did not help you, and you found another solution, then be sure to write your experience in the comments, because with this comment you can help people who also could not or cannot solve this problem.
In this article, we will tell you what to do if the screen is turned over on a Windows laptop and how to fix it. The easiest, often used way to help roll back everything to a standard state is to use the keyboard, or rather keyboard shortcuts.
To execute, hold down the “CtrlAlt” combination and add an up arrow “”. If you need the screen to flip 90 degrees Windows replace the last key with “→” also by analogy: “”. 180 ° and “←”. 270 °. There are 2 more ways that are worth mentioning, or if this did not work.
Please note that this option will not work on all systems. If this method does not help, try using the following.
Fix via utility for video cards
How to fix the screen on a Windows 10 computer, if all the previous methods did not solve the problem and the image is still rotated, then you should use the video card settings. These can be utilities from Intel, AMD, NVidia. Considering which company the video card is from, select the icon in the taskbar or launch it from the desktop by right-clicking in the context menu. Some versions of the programs differ from each other, but according to the standard, the settings we need are in the “Display” section
It is necessary to find the value of the screen orientation and set it to your convenience.
How to flip the screen using Windows tools
Any version of Windows has screen resolution settings. Here’s an easy way to fix Windows screen flips.
Right click on the desktop and select “Display Settings” (This is on Windows 10).
The “Display” section will open. Scroll a little to the “Scale and Markup” block. There will be an “Orientation” parameter, which should be set to “Landscape”.
For Windows 7 and 8
In earlier versions of Windows, the display settings are called Screen Resolution. You can get there the same way if you right-click on the desktop, or through the control panel.
Open the control panel and switch the view mode to “Small icons”. Then go to the section “Screen”. “Setting the screen resolution” (left item).
There will be an “Orientation” option, which must be set to “Landscape” mode and then the desktop will not turn over.
On the latest versions of Windows 10 and Windows 10 LTSB, LTSC, there is no display setting in the control panel. They are all in the system parameters.
I have an accelerometer built into my laptop, which means that the screen automatically flips over at different inclinations, which is not very pleasant. If you have the same problem, then in the screen resolution and orientation settings there is usually a function to turn off automatic rotation.
Intel adapter graphics settings
This type of graphics adapter is installed in processors designed primarily for laptops. To gain access to the settings, we perform the following actions:
- Click on the desktop with the right mouse button.
- Hover over the item “Graphics Options”. “Rotation”.
- Select orientation “0 degrees”.
The same is in the program itself, if you open “Graphic characteristics” through the desktop and the right mouse button. The HD graphics control panel will open, where we press the “Display” button.
Next, we change the settings that are needed. It has resolution, refresh rate, rotation and scaling.
How to flip the screen in the graphics adapter settings
Laptops usually have two graphics cards: integrated and discrete. The first is from Intel, and the second is from NVIDIA or AMD. Software is installed for each device, where you can control the graphics parameters and, of course, the screen resolution.
Let’s analyze all the settings for different video adapters.
If the screen flips on a laptop due to hot keys
The Windows 7, 8, or 10 desktop could flip over when accidentally pressing hotkeys. There are several combinations to change the screen orientation. In fact, it is difficult to press such combinations by accident, but if it happened, then here is the method of fix.
You must press the desired keyboard shortcuts again:
- Ctrl Alt Left Arrow. Rotate the screen 90 degrees to the left.
- Ctrl Alt Right Arrow. Rotate the screen 90 degrees to the right.
- Ctrl Alt down arrow. the screen is rotated 180 degrees, that is, it is oriented upside down.
- Ctrl Alt Up Arrow. Returns orientation to default state.
It should be borne in mind that these keys may not work. It all depends on which graphics adapter is installed in the computer or laptop. Everything works great on an HP Pavilion laptop with an NVIDIA graphics card.
Windows 10 laptop or computer screen flipped
Quite often I had the following problem: the laptop screen turned over. Most often on Windows 10. The desktop was flipped 90, 180 and even 270 degrees.
Also, the problem was noticed not only on the “top ten”, but also on earlier versions of the system: Windows 7 and 8. Let’s try to figure out the causes of the problem and find all kinds of solutions.
Graphics parameters of video cards from NVIDIA and ATI
If the screen flips on a Windows laptop with NVIDIA software installed, then it will be easy to fix the problem.
- From the desktop, right-click and select NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD VISION Engine Control Center.
- Expand the “Display” tab.
- Go to the parameter “Display rotation”.
- Check “Landscape” mode.
Sometimes there are no such settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel at all. It all depends on the version of the model and software. It is best to update your graphics card drivers to the latest version. And you can download them from the official website.
So, if your screen flips on a laptop with Windows 10 or 7 and 8, then this is not a serious problem and it can be easily solved.
First, be careful when using any keyboard shortcuts (now you know which ones).
Secondly, if the laptop has an accelerometer, disable automatic rotation in the screen settings, if there is such a function. If not, try not to tilt the laptop in different directions. I once had to shake it quite hard to return everything to its original state.
Video card management
Video cards (graphic adapters) have special software. the so-called Control Centers. With its help, you can carry out the task set by us. Although the visual interface of this software is different and depends on the specific adapter model, nevertheless, the procedure is approximately the same. We will look at it using the example of an NVIDIA video card.
- Go to the “Desktop” and click on it with the right mouse button (RMB). Next, select “NVIDIA Control Panel”.
The NVIDIA video adapter management interface opens. In the left part of it in the “Display” parameter block, click on the name “Display rotation”.
The last option flips the screen from top to bottom. Preliminarily, the position of the picture on the monitor, when the appropriate mode is selected, can be observed in the right part of the window. In order to use the selected option, click “Apply”.
The screen will then flip over to the selected position. But the action will be automatically canceled if you do not confirm it within a few seconds by clicking the “Yes” button in the dialog box that appears.
A much faster and easier way to change the orientation of the monitor can be done with a combination of hot keys. Unfortunately, this option is not suitable for all laptop models.
To rotate the monitor, it is enough to use the following keyboard shortcuts, which we have already considered when describing the method using the iRotate program:
- CtrlAlt Up Arrow. Standard screen position;
- CtrlAlt down arrow. flip the display 180 degrees;
- CtrlAlt Right Arrow. Rotate the screen to the right;
- CtrlAlt Left Arrow. Rotate display left.
If this option does not work, then try using other methods described in this article. For example, you can install the iRotate program and then controlling the display orientation using hot keys will become available to you.
Screen flip methods
There are several ways to flip the laptop display in Windows 7. Most of them are also suitable for stationary PCs. The task we need can be solved using third-party applications, video adapter software, as well as native Windows capabilities. Below we will consider all possible options for action.
Flip the screen on a laptop with Windows 7
Sometimes there are emergency situations in which it is necessary to quickly flip the screen on a laptop for more convenient work. It also happens that, due to a failure or erroneous keystrokes, the image has turned upside down and it is required to put it in its original position, and the user does not know how to do this. Let’s find out in what ways you can solve this problem on devices running Windows 7.
Application of third-party applications
Let’s immediately consider the option using the installed software. One of the most popular and convenient display rotation apps is iRotate.
- After downloading, run the iRotate installer. In the installer window that opens, you must confirm your agreement with the license agreement. Check the box next to “I agree” and click “Next”.
After ticking the necessary options, click “OK”.
After that, a window will open with brief information about the program. For example, the operating systems that the application supports will be listed. You will not find Windows 7 in this list, but do not worry, as iRotate perfectly supports work with this OS. It’s just that the release of the latest version of the program took place even before the release of Windows 7, but, nevertheless, the tool is still relevant. Click “OK”.
The installer will close. If you previously checked the box that launches iRotate immediately after the installation procedure, the program will be activated and its icon will appear in the notification area.
Select the appropriate option to rotate the display to the desired position. If you want to completely flip it, then you need to stop at the point “180 degrees”. The rotation procedure will be executed immediately.
In addition, while the program is running, you can use keyboard shortcuts. Then you don’t even have to call the menu from the notification area. To position the screen in those positions that were given in the lists above, you need, respectively, apply the following combinations:
- CtrlAlt up arrow;
- CtrlAlt left arrow;
- CtrlAlt right arrow;
- CtrlAlt Down Arrow.
In this case, even if your laptop’s own functionality does not support display rotation through a set of hotkey combinations (although some devices can do this too), the procedure will still be performed using iRotate.
You can also flip the display using the Control Panel tool.
- Click Start. Go to the “Control Panel”.
Navigate to “Appearance and Personalization”.
Then in the left pane of the window, click “Adjust screen resolution”.
You can get to the required section “Control panels” in another way. Right-click on “Desktop” and select “Screen Resolution”.
In the shell that opens, you can adjust the screen resolution. But in the context of the question posed in this article, we are interested in changing its position. Therefore, click on the field with the name “Orientation”.
Selecting the latter option will rotate the display 180 degrees relative to its standard position. Choose the item you want.
After that, the screen will rotate to the selected position. But if you do not confirm the performed action in the dialog box that appears by clicking the “Save changes” button, then after a few seconds the display position will return to its previous position. Therefore, you need to have time to click the corresponding element, as in Method 1 of this manual.
As you can see, there are several ways to flip the screen on a laptop with Windows 7. Some of them can be applied to stationary computers as well. The choice of a specific option depends not only on your personal convenience, but also on the device model, since, for example, not all laptops support the method of solving the problem using hot keys.
Flip the screen on Windows 10 devices
Everyone may face the problem that the monitor screen is rotated somehow incorrectly, not the way it is used to. If you are reading an article in which we will tell you how to flip the screen on a laptop with Windows 10, then you should know that flipping the screen could happen by accident, if, for example, you did not follow a small child or a cat, or simply got confused in the buttons. pressed something wrong.
In any case, it’s okay, this problem is not that big and can be solved very easily. It so happens that in order to use a particular program, you need to deliberately change the screen orientation. This article will show you several ways to rotate the screen, but if you are looking for a way to flip a video 90 degrees, then this is a separate article.
So, there are 4 available options for image orientation:
- Landscape, flipped 180 ° display
- Portrait, rotated 90º counterclockwise
- Portrait, rotated 90º clockwise
Using screen settings
Press the “Start” button, look for “Settings”, then select the “System” section. In the left menu, find the “Screen” section and click the “Landscape” orientation (for example, you might have had “Landscape inverted”, which is completely inconvenient). Be sure to click “Apply”, otherwise you will scold the author of the article that he taught you incorrectly! And for the future, always check if there are buttons “OK”, “Apply” and similar, this will make your life much easier.
“Hot” keys to help
The easiest way is to use the “CtrlAltarrow” combination. For example, press “CtrlAlt lower arrow” and see where the image is rotated and whether you need to move more. To make it clearer, here’s how the keys interact with each arrow:
- flip 180º up. CtrlAlt cursor up
- rotate clockwise. CtrlAlt right cursor
- counterclockwise rotation. CtrlAlt left cursor
- flip down. CtrlAlt cursor down
If the keys do not respond to your request, it means that the video card and the software installed on it do not know about such a function.
We use the settings of the video card
- For Nvidia, run the graphics card management program. First, find the field with the system clock, notice that there is an “up arrow”, ie. disclosure of additional tools. Open and find the Nvidia icon (it is green, when you hover over it it will say “Nvidia Settings”). In the parameters available for change, you need to find the “Rotate display”, press and rotate the screen, as convenient.
- For AMD Radeon, right click on the desktop and select “AMD Radeon”. The display manager will open, select the standard landscape orientation.
- For Intel, right-click on the desktop, select Graphics Options. The Intel Graphics Control Panel opens. Click on “Settings”. Set the rotation to 90 degrees (or another amount, depending on the situation)
If you did everything correctly, then the problem is solved and in the future, even if something like this happens, you can always cope with such a task. But if suddenly nothing of the proposed helped (the screen on Windows 10 does not want to rotate), write in the comments more details about the problem, as well as the configuration of your computer, in particular about the video card and the installed OS. I will try to help.
