How To Make Screen Capture In Obs

How to enable delight of a desktop or specific area on Windows 10?

The key difference between the new Windows 10 operating system and earlier builds is that you no longer need to install additional programs to capture the desktop screen or an active game window. It is enough to enable the desired option in the settings of the operating system itself and start recording. Therefore, in this topic, we will look at methods on how to enable desktop delight on Windows 10.

In order to start working with the function of recording what is happening on the desktop, you need to activate it. It’s easy to do this in Windows 10. To do this, do the following:

  • Press the key combination “WinG”. A small window will appear. We put the mark “Yes, this is a game” so that the recording control panel appears.
  • A small window will appear. Click on the gear icon to bring up the settings menu.
  • We set the required recording parameters.
  • Then you need to click on the “Play” button. As soon as recording starts, a countdown will appear.

IMPORTANT! This function will record at 1080p. Since this is a fairly high resolution, the minimum requirements will include the mandatory presence of an Intel HD Graphics 4000, GeForce 600 / 800M or AMD Radeon HD 7000 graphics adapter. The recorded will be saved in mp4 format and placed in the “”, “Clips” folder.

For how this method works in practice, see:

If you have an NVidia card installed, you can record your desktop using a tool like Shadow Play. This can be done as follows:

  • Open the GeForse Expirience panel. At the top, select the “Parameters” tab and in the left menu click “Shadow Play”.
  • Here we look at the following sections. The camera is responsible for taking pictures of the person. If you are NOT going to take pictures of yourself, but only the desktop, then do not touch this item. Status indicator. a parameter that indicates whether the recording process is enabled. The frames per second counter can be set in any desktop window. This is necessary if fps is important to you.
  • Next, click on the “Shadow Play” button to bring up a menu for setting the quality of shooting, sound, etc.
  • Then we return to the main menu again, lower the slider down and indicate the folder where the material will be recorded.
  • The settings are ready. Clicked on the “Record” button, you can shoot everything that happens on the desktop.

How to add a microphone to OBS

To add a microphone to this app, you first need to create a new scene. Add the delight of the input audio stream as source, assigning a meaningful name if necessary. Select the desired microphone in the properties window. If you start talking into it, the level meter will “jump”, if the adjacent slider is set to the extreme right position. 0dB.

How to remove noise

There are several ways to eliminate noise by means of OBS. You can use the built-in Noise Gateway, as well as a special filter, which in the Russian version of the application is called “throughput noise”. The latter is designed to suppress noise and other sounds, the level of which does NOT exceed the specified value, by damping.

Another filter only attenuates noise and interference without muting the sound from the source.

How to increase microphone volume in OBS

If increasing the volume with the built-in OBS slider does not work, then you need to check the microphone settings in the system. First you need to set the level to 100% and the gain to 30 dB or maximum. If the broadcast sound is still weak, you can apply a built-in filter that can amplify the signal from the audio device. To add it, you need to click on the gear icon next to the slider for the audio input device and go to the effect configurator.

A window opens in which you click on the “” icon and add an audio filter amplifier. Following this, a slider appears in the upper part, which sets the level of increase and decrease. When speaking into the microphone, you need to set the gain so that there is no prolonged excess of the 0 dB level. In this case, the sound will be loud enough, but not distorted.

How to set up a microphone in OBS

In this application, you can adjust the signal level using the corresponding slider, the current position of which will be displayed next to the source name.

Microphone filters

In this application, the same filters are available as for other capture devices for input and output audio streams:

  • the compressor improves the intelligibility of the sound from the source;
  • the last stop protects the audio from exceeding the level.

How to set up a microphone in obs

The OBS application (Open Broadcaster Studio) broadcasts from the PC screen and other sources to YouTube and other sites for conducting live Internet broadcasts. Setting up the microphone in the OBS allows you to accompany all this with text and speech explanations.

What to do if your device doesn’t work

First of all, you need to restart the OBS application. If during its operation, other programs or computer users made changes to the configuration of the audio equipment, then they should be reflected. If this does not happen, then you need to uninstall the application and reinstall the latest version. If this does not help, then you can try to reinstall the drivers for the audio devices. After this operation, the microphone in the OBS should work.

How to set up to record games?

In order to set up game recording from the screen, you must:

  • At the top of the screen, open “File”, then open “Settings”.
  • Open the “Output” tab, set the “bitrate” to 10000, select the encoder (if you have an Nvidia GTX 660 or higher card, then select NVENC, for AMD. H264 / AVC, in other cases x264).
  • “Audio bitrate” is set automatically.
  • In the column “Recording path” you should select the folder in which to save.
  • It is best to select mp4 in the “Recording format” tab.
  • In the tab “” in the column “Output resolution” the resolution is set in which it will be recorded. regardless of the resolution of your monitor or set in the game. The default setting is 1920×1080, but on weaker computers, you can put less.
  • “FPS” for powerful computers is 60, for weak computers 30.

Program “does not see” microphone

In cases where OBS cannot see the microphone, you must:

  • Check the microphone itself. It may be incorrectly connected or faulty.
  • Check program settings.

After installing OBS in the settings in the “Audio” tab in the “Microphone” column is “by default.

Need to change to your microphone model.

Sound and microphone

  • “Playback device”. if you have several audio output devices connected at once (for example, speakers and headphones), then you can choose from which source the sound will go. When connected equals output devices, leave at default.
  • “Microphone”. set up as described in the previous paragraph.
  • Be sure to check the box next to “Show only connected devices”.
  • The rest of the positions can be left as is, but if viewers complain about audio lag, it should be increased to 400.

What is this program?

OBS Studio is a program for capturing and recording your screen on your computer.

What to do if there is a black screen when capturing?

Capture black screen is a very common problem experienced by OBS users. There are several ways to solve it:

  • 1 way.
  • Run the program as administrator.
  • Right click on OBS and select “Run as administrator”.
  • 2 way.
    • Set compatibility with previous versions of the operating system.
    • Right click on OBS and go to “Properties”. “Compatibility”.
    • Check the box “Run the program in compatibility mode with:” and select, for example, Windows 7.
    • If you configure the program incorrectly and select the wrong window, a black screen may appear.

How it sticks out on YouTube through OBS?

Setting up for Stream on YouTube is similar to setting up OBS on Twitch, but has a number of features, which must be taken into account:

      • In the broadcast column, you need to change the “broadcast service” on YouTube. Insert StreamKey, which is located in the broadcast settings on YouTube in the line “Stream name”.
      • To get the key you need to create a live stream on YouTube. It is important to remember that this key changes for each Stream, so you need to add it before each new impression.
      • After starting the Stream, you need to go to the “Broadcast Control Panel” on YouTube. If OBS is configured correctly, a notification will appear on the screen.

      How to use?

After installing and launching the program, the main screen opens in front of you.

In the upper part there are blocks:

      • file.
      • Edit.
      • view.
      • Profile.
      • Scene collection.
      • tools.
      • reference.

At the bottom there are screens:

      • scenes.
      • Sources.
      • mixer.
      • Scene transitions.
      • Control.

The bottom right shows how much time you are on the air, how much is recorded in general. the load of your processor, and the frame refresh rate (FPS).

How to delight the game and start screen recording:

      • In the scene column, click on “” and in the window that opens, think of your scene name.
      • Next, you need to select source for. After clicking “” in the corresponding column, a list of them will open in front of you. It is necessary to select the item “Window capture”. In the new window, check the box next to “Make source visible.” Next, you need to choose where it will be recorded from. For the game to appear in the window selection field, it must be launched.
      • Sound settings are made in the mixer. Here you can adjust the volume, turn the sound on and off while recording.
      • After all the settings on the right side of the screen, click “Start Recording” and it will start recording.

In order to start an online broadcast, you must:

      • Open the settings in the top menu of the program.
      • Select the item encoded, in which you must specify the “Maximum bitrate” (Internet speed). You can find it on the Internet.
      • Go to the broadcast tab and select “Live”.

Then you need to select a server (for Russia, the nearest servers are located in Prague, Stockholm and London).

In the Stream Key column, indicate the key of your broadcast on Twitch.

You can find it in your personal account.
In the tab, you must select the card from which the broadcast will go.

If there is only one card, then it will be selected automatically and nothing needs to be changed.

    • Audio tab. here the settings are set automatically.
    • Advanced. set “Buffering time” 400.
    • Next, you should proceed according to the screen recording aLGorithm, but instead of recording, you must click “Start broadcast”.
    • Setting up on a weak PC

On a weak computer, you can record and broadcast. Which will display and work correctly. This requires:

      • In the “General” column, check the boxes next to “Show confirmation window when broadcasting starts” and “Show confirmation window when broadcasting stops”. This is necessary so that you do not accidentally turn on recording or broadcasting, and once again do not load your PC.
      • In the “Output” tab, select “Output mode. extended” and in the “Streaming” subsection select the NVENC H.264 encoder, if the processor is weak (this starts broadcasting through the card).

the card may NOT support this encoder, then you will NOT be able to use OBS for comfortable streaming.

If there is a powerful processor, then you can install the x264 encoder. With good Internet quality “Bitrate” set 3500.

    • In the “Recording” subsection, you need to put a tick on 2 “Audio tracks” so that after recording you can separately edit your voice and sound from the game. The bitrate will set 50,000, since the Internet does not affect the recording here in any way.
    • In the “” tab, you can set the resolution to 1920×1080 in both points. “Scaling filter”. “Lanczos method”. “FPS”. 30 frames per second.

      capabilities

OBS can be configured and used as for recording. and for online broadcasts (streams), for example, on YouTube.

Let’s tell you why obs does NOT capture the game and a black screen appears.

How to configure obs to avoid black screen?

First, you need to choose the correct source. The game that you plan to use at the moment is indicated as it.

Secondly, go to the obs parameters and set compatibility with anti-cheats, but only if they are used. In the obs settings, in the “Applications” field, select the game that we plan to use.

What other answers can there be to the question why the black screen in obs? Nvdia control panel may have incorrect settings.

Open the Nvidia panel options. Need to find a menu “Manage 3D Settings “- select” High Performance Nvidia Processor “as your preferred GPU. You need to run obs only as administrator

After setting the above settings, the question why obs does NOT capture the game will most likely be solved successfully.

Installing, first launching and configuring OBS Studio

You can download OBS Studio x64 and 32-bit for Windows 10, 8.1 and Windows 7, as well as for other supported OS, from the Official page https://obsproject.com/ru/download. Installation without any special nuances (a portable version of OBS Studio is also available in a ZIP archive), but: in the absence of the necessary system libraries on your computer, you will be prompted to install them by providing a download link. After installing the libraries, the OBS Studio installer will need to be run again.

After the first launch of OBS Studio, you will be prompted to launch the automatic configuration wizard depending on your tasks: for recording or for broadcasting.

During automatic setup, the preferred recording resolution, FPS, codec (hardware or software encoding) will be determined. Usually, the parameters are determined in an optimal way, but not always, for example:

      • The program, after automatic tuning, often sets a lower output resolution, despite its quite productive equipment. I recommend changing it in “Settings”. “” so that the output resolution is equal to the actual resolution of the filmed material.
      • If you encounter problems with recording (freezing, something else), I recommend experimenting with the settings in the “Output” section. For example, I shoot at 4K 60 FPS on NOT the most powerful, but also NOT the slowest computer, and when choosing a hardware encoder with recording, problems arise, but with a software computer, it more than copes (while I am automatically advised to choose the hardware one). Here you can also select the file format, recording or broadcast quality, save location.
      • I recommend remembering the “Settings”. “Hot Keys” item. This item can come in handy when you have already dealt with screen recording: for example, right during recording, you can use the keys to switch scenes (with transitions between them), hide individual elements from the recorded or broadcast content.
      • If you plan to record sound from different sources, take a look at the “Audio” section, perhaps the settings will come in handy. Important: if you have Windows 10 and the sound from the microphone is NOT recorded, go to Start. Settings. Privacy. Microphone and in the “Allow desktop applications to access the microphone” section enable access for OBS Studio.

It is recommended to immediately switch to Advanced broadcast settings. The most important thing here is the bitrate setting. that is, its quality. The maximum bitrate should be no more than 80% of the Internet connection speed. For owners of a dedicated channel, this is not so important, but users with low network access speeds should experiment. Thus, if the broadcast is interrupted, it makes sense to lower the bitrate.

      Keyframe interval:

      • recommended 2.
      • maximum 4.

      Bitrate recommendations are summarized below.

      OBS Studio Settings

Next, let’s move on to the general settings of the application. You can find them in the “File” menu. “Settings”.

In the section, you can adjust the resolution and frame rate. Usually permission is left here. equal to the monitor resolution. If you are going to upload to YouTube, it will compress it to the required resolution.

In the list “Base (base) resolution” select the monitor resolution, and in the list “Output (scaled) resolution”. maximum available.

In the field “General FPS values” set the desired frame rate. The most common value is 30 frames per second.

If you do not know the resolution of your monitor, right-click on the desktop and select the “Display settings” (Windows 10), and in the window that opens, click on the link “Additional screen options”.

Setting up on a weak PC

    • Attention. If after setting these settings or broadcasting does not work correctly, then your computer does not support OBS.

      Capture Windows Desktop

In the interface of the NVIDIA Control Panel, there is an option that allows you to manually set the map separately for each application. To record the Windows desktop and other applications running on the integrated graphics adapter, you need to install it for OBS Studio as well. To do this, close the OBS Studio program, open the NVIDIA Control Panel by clicking on the Corresponding item of the desktop context menu or on the icon in the Windows tray. In the list on the left, select a section “3D Settings Manage 3D Settings” and in the panel on the right, select the tab “Program settings”.

In the dropdown list “Select a program to configure” select item “OBS Studio.”. If it is not in the list, use the button “Add to”, to find the OBS Studio application on your computer and add it manually.

In the next dropdown list “Select your preferred GPU for this program” select item “Integrated graphics hardware”.

Click the button “Apply”, Launch OBS Studio program, add screen delight to the stage as source. A screen image should appear in the preview window.

When OBS Studio is running on integrated graphics hardware, you will NOT be able to capture the screen of applications running on a discrete card, such as games (although on some laptops the delight occurs).

How to Stream PC Game on Twitch Using OBS

It should be said right off the bat that Twitch only supports public streams. If you want to broadcast a private stream to multiple friends, we recommend using Steam’s built-in Broadcasting feature, which allows you to restrict viewing to a circle of Steam friends.

READ  Computer Does Not Turn On Black Screen What To Do

If you’re settled on Twitch, check out the game you want to stream before going through this guide. Some PC games have built-in support for Twitch. But for most games, you will need a third-party streaming program to broadcast your gameplay, such as Open Broadcaster Software (OBS).

Finally, streaming gameplay to Twitch requires some pretty powerful hardware. Twitch recommends using an Intel Core i5-4670 processor or AMD equivalent, and at least 8GB DDR3 SDRAM, and Windows 7 or newer. If your thread is not running smoothly, then you probably need a faster processor and possibly more RAM. The bandwidth of your internet connection is also important. Higher quality streams require more bandwidth.

The fourth way to eliminate black screen in OBS Studio

Windows October 1909 and newer only

Type in the search windows “Graphics settings” and select the desired options. In the window that appears, select the “Classic Application” option and click “Browse” open the path to the program for 64bit C: \ Program Files \ obs-studio \ bin \ 64bit \ obs64.exe for 32bit C: \ Program Files (x86) \ obs- studio \ bin \ 32bit \ obs32.exe or the path where you installed OBS yourself. OBS Studio appears in the list, click Options and:

      • If you want to capture the Screen Capture source to display the desktop, select Power Saving.
      • If you want to capture the “capture games” source or use the NVENC encoder, select “High Performance”.

      Screen Capture

If Screen Capture does not work, most likely you will need to use Capture Games / Windows because OBS only starts with the Integrated Graphics option. Remember that after this “Capture game / window” will not work unless you activate “Multi-adapter compatibility” in their properties. Read about it below.

Window / Game Capture and Multi-Adapter Compatible Mode

If you are unable to set your preferred GPU (typical for AMD-based notebooks) or if you want to cross-capture an image from another GPU afterwards (eg League of Legends lobby window), Use Game / Window Capture with the Compatibility option enabled. with multi-adapter ”, which will accelerate the delight. However, the “Compatible with multi-adapter” mode will increase the load on the central processor (from English Central Processing Unit, CPU). Compatibility mode is not recommended for “capture games”, but it guarantees its implementation.

Black screen in OBS Studio 5 ways to solve the problem

      Published: 13 September 2017
      (Updated: 16 Aug 2020)

The fifth way to eliminate black screen in OBS Studio

Works on Windows 10 below version 1909

When using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) on a laptop, you may experience performance issues or problems with using a particular type of capture (in particular, Game Capture or Window Capture), which can be frustrating for you. And all this happens because most modern laptops are equipped with two graphic processors (from the English Graphics Processing Unit, GPU):

      • Intel GPU for 2D desktop applications.
      • Discrete graphics chip (NVIDIA or AMD) for 3D applications and games.

OBS can only run on one of THESE GPUs, and applications and games you open can run on any of them. For example, if OBS is running on an Intel GPU, then you will NOT be able to use Game Capture running on a discrete GPU (NVIDIA or AMD). Also, if OBS does NOT run on a discrete GPU, then you may experience performance issues.

On rare occasions, trying to make Game Capture running on a GPU other than the one running OBS can cause the game to crash. And this is NOT so much an issue with OBS as it is a design decision by laptop manufacturers to conserve power, so there is little we can do on our side.

However, we have several suggestions for diagnostics and troubleshooting that will solve most of the problems. If you have tried all the points in this guide, and your problems are still NOT solved, please write to us on the forum or Contact support chat.
If you get a black screen while capturing any of the sources or are having problems with OBS performance on your laptop, check out the guide points below:

The second way to eliminate black screen in OBS Studio

If OBS Studio is NOT hijacking the application, try running OBS Studio as administrator. Right mouse button on OBS Studio. “Run as administrator”

      • “Window” select the required process (the process must be running)
      • Window Negotiation Priority. Compare title, otherwise find a window of the same type;
      • It is better to check the “SLI / Crossfire capture mode (Slow)” checkbox at the last moment, as it greatly affects the performance;
      • Check the box “Use an interceptor compatible with cheat protection.
    • “Window capture” here you can set 2 parameters
      • “Window” select the desired process from the list (the game must be launched in windowed mode or full-screen windowed mode)
      • Window Negotiation Priority. Compare title, otherwise find a window of the same type;
      • Check the box “Compatible with multi-adapter”
      • NVIDIA notebooks

        • Close OBS if program is open.
