How to make the font on the monitor larger
How to enlarge the font on the computer and its screen: A quick way
In this article, you will learn how to enlarge a font on a computer and its screen in a few steps.
Increasing the font on the laptop screen
If the font appears small and the text on the laptop is difficult to read, you can make the letters larger. You can increase both the size of texts in documents and the browser, as well as individual elements of the system: window titles, tooltips, error messages.
The easy way
You may have heard of the key combination Ctrl and “” (plus). With it, you can really enlarge the inscriptions on the screen to the desired size. And if you feel that you have gone too far, then instead of a plus, hold down “-” (minus). Very simple, intuitive and works. You can increase the font this way both in the browser and on the desktop. When working in Microsoft Word, the size of words, of course, cannot be made more. you will have to use standard tools and combinations. But such programs are an exception. Most of the time the combination works.
True, this method has a significant drawback. it is one-time. If you increased the font size on one page, and then went to another, you will see what you were trying to get rid of, and you will have to repeat this action again. At first it may seem that this is nothing, but then it will quickly get bored.
This method is more suitable for those who are satisfied with the default size of the inscriptions on the screen, but who have seen especially small text and do not want to strain their eyes too much. Then the combination of Ctrl with “” is a great option. It can be used with the method shown below. It will be possible to enlarge the font and leave it that way, and all programs, except perhaps some browsers (but not all), will use it.
Resize text in Windows 10
- Right click on the desktop and select “Display Settings”.
How to increase the font on the computer and its screen
- Find in the new window a special Slide “Resize text, applications” to the right to make the text larger. Or slide it to the left to make them smaller. The slider moves in 25 percent increments. You can increase the size up to 175 percent.
You will immediately notice that the text size has changed, but you will not see things getting bigger (or smaller) until you reboot or log in again. If you are happy with the size of the text, you can stop at this value. However, if you want to try custom scaling values or adjust the font size for specific UI elements (eg: headers, icons), skip to step 3.
- Click on “Advanced display settings” at the bottom of the settings window.
- Click “Expanded text and other sizes” at the bottom of the window.
How to increase the font on the computer and its screen
A screen with multiple display options appears. From here you can choose either A.) Set an arbitrary scaling percentage (for example: 115 percent) or B.) Adjust the font size for specific items such as menus and icons.
5a. Click on “set custom scale” under “Resize items”.
5b. Select the UI element you want to change, select a font size, and check the Bold check box if you want the letters to be bold. Repeat these steps for titles, menus, message fields, palette names, icons, and tooltips.
- Click Apply. Windows will make you wait or ask you to log out and log back in (in case of scaling) before you see the changes.
How to increase or decrease the font on a laptop screen?
In order to better distinguish the information that is displayed in the operating system interface, you should increase the font on the laptop screen. On the other hand, if you are using a device with a small display, you need to optimize the workspace so that the display fits as many elements as possible, in which case you should reduce the size of the font and icons.
Do not increase or decrease the size of fonts and icons by changing the display resolution settings. Usually, the default is set to the optimal resolution, which provides the best picture display quality.
How do I increase the font size on the screen? Hotkey combinations
Not everyone knows how to increase the font size on the monitor screen. And those who heard about it out of the way and immediately tried to apply it in practice, then do not know how to return everything back, so do not rush to experiment without reading all the instructions! Of course, simultaneously pressing a combination of “hot” keys “Ctrl” and “” on your computer keyboard. a temporary measure. However, this is handy for increasing the fine print of an article on a blog whose owner did not care about his reader’s eyesight, but posted amazingly interesting information for you! I also want to dwell on some combinations of “hot” keys for the Windows system. which I use daily myself.
So, first, let’s answer the question: “How do I increase the font size on the screen?”. If you have already done this simple operation by pressing the “Ctrl” and “” keys at the same time, you will notice that the font on the monitor screen has really increased. If you continue to click on “” while holding down the “Ctrl” key, you will notice that not only the font is enlarged, but the entire content, as it were, “crawls” out of sight. Then you naturally want to take everything back. To return everything to its original state, you just need to press the “Ctrl” and “0” keys together. And to go back one step, just press “Ctrl” and “-“.
As my own experience has shown, knowledge and ability to use hotkey combinations greatly speeds up the work in the Windows system. In this article, I will not write about hotkeys for the new Windows 8 system, so as not to overload information and not rush events, but I will give just a few of the most used shortcuts that are suitable for any version of Windows. Try it right away to translate knowledge into skill!
I always use the following keys and their combinations:
“Ctrl” and “V”. Paste copied or cut
“Shift” and “→”, or “←”, or “”, “”. Selection right, left, up, down
“Home”, “End”. Move to start, end of line
“Ctrl” and “Home”. Moving to the very beginning
“Ctrl” and “N”. Creating a new window, document
“Ctrl” and “F”. Search bar activation in any situation
It is possible that I might have forgotten something. I will add to the table along the way, perhaps even with your help! Can you tell me something good? 🙂
How to increase the size of text on a computer
Whether you have a laptop with a tiny screen or a desktop with a giant monitor, your computer’s fonts may be too small for readability. Or, conversely, they may be more than you need. Luckily, you don’t need to invest in a new pair of glasses. If you have a computer or Mac, you can easily adjust the text size both for the entire operating system and for individual parts of the interface. The methods depend on your operating system and how much you want to do.
Increasing the font and some other elements
The method works in a browser, on the Windows desktop, in many applications.
To begin with, I would like to point out the easiest, most versatile and affordable way to FAST increase the size of text (and some elements) by pressing just a few buttons!
- hold down “Ctrl” and press “”. increase by 10% of the font and everything that is open in the browser window (or, for example, on the Windows desktop, or in another application);
- hold down “Ctrl” and press “-”. decrease by 10% (similar to the previous one);
- hold down “Ctrl” and turn the mouse wheel. a similar effect;
- hold down “Ctrl” and press “”. return the scale to the default one (reset the increase / decrease).
It is very convenient to use such combinations. Let’s say you have opened some site (for example, you are working and you need a lot of Honor). if you feel that the font on the screen is too small for you. hold down the “Ctrl” button and turn the mouse wheel. So you can quickly adjust the font to the desired size, and read it calmly (example below).
Same desktop but different icon sizes

change screen resolution and scaling
Everything that is displayed on the monitor depends on the screen resolution! The higher the resolution, the smaller all the elements on the screen (however, the more space you have). the lower the resolution, the less space on the desktop, but all the elements are larger.
In general, you need to look for a middle ground, and not always the recommended resolution by drivers or Windows is optimal.
Some users set a high resolution on a monitor with a small diagonal (higher than the one recommended by Windows for this diagonal). This is not good because details and elements on the screen are too small and your eyes quickly get tired of constantly straining.
Full HD vs Ultra HD (4k). An example of the difference in resolution
And so, to change the resolution, right-click in any place free from icons on the desktop. In the menu that appears, it is advisable to open a link to the settings of your graphics adapter (in my case it is IntelHD, in yours it can be either also, or AMD, or NVIDIA).
If there are no links in this menu to configure your graphics adapter, try opening the Windows Control Panel: Hardware and Sound section (also look at the tray icons next to the clock).
Link to IntelHD (in the tray next to the clock)
If there are no links anywhere. most likely, you have not installed (not updated) drivers on the video card. In one of my articles, I already told you how best to update them, I give the link below:
Next, you need to open the tab with the basic display settings: usually it always contains the desired option to set the resolution. I recommend that you choose a lower resolution and try to see if it will be comfortable. Experimentally find the optimal resolution.
Intel (R) Graphics Control Panel. Resolution Selection
By the way, if the drivers are not installed on the video card, you can change the resolution using Windows tools (usually you can).
To do this, right-click on the free space on the desktop, and select the “Display Settings” option in the context menu that appears (this is relevant for Windows 10, in Windows 7. you can immediately open the option for choosing a resolution).
Next, in the “Display” section, click on the “Resolution” tab (for Windows 10) and set the desired value (see arrow-2 in the screenshot below).
Scaling and resolution / Windows 10
After that, I also recommend “experimenting” with additional scaling options (they allow you to adjust the image size, for example, you can enlarge all elements on the screen by 20%).

adjusting font size and clarity in Windows
If you have modern Windows 10, then the font size in it can be changed using the special. applications (the option in the control panel has been removed). https://ocomp.info/kak-izmenit-razmer-shrifta-Windows-10.html
For detailed font settings in Windows. open the control panel, then the “Appearance and personalization” section. and subsection “Screen” (see screen below).
In the tab that opens, I recommend checking each tab. For example, the first thing you can do is set the size of the window titles, the size of the icons, subtitles, etc. (see screenshot below, signed).
Also, I recommend that you open all the links on the left in the menu one by one, there are also very important parameters there.!
In the settings of the screen parameter (this is the first tab in the menu on the left in the screenshot above), you can change the size of the text, increase the scale of various elements, etc. Move the slider to the right and test, choose the best option for you.
In the settings for brightness and color calibration. adjust the parameters also for yourself. In general, the optimal brightness depends on the room in which you work: if it is dark and there is no daylight in it, then the brightness needs to be dimmed (sometimes to a minimum), if it is light, it must be increased. Remember that too much brightness will tire your eyes faster.!
Changing Power Scheme Settings. Adjusting Display Brightness
I don’t think they can argue with me that the ease of reading depends not only on the size of the font, but also on its quality: clarity, brightness, smoothness and outline of letters, etc. ClearType technology was specially developed for LCD displays to make fonts as convenient as possible.readable (so to speak, adjust anti-aliasing under-itself!).
over, due to precise calibration. the quality of the font (anti-aliasing, brightness, clarity, etc.) is adjusted for each specific monitor and a specific user! That is why, I definitely recommend setting this parameter.
- click on WinR;
- in the “Run” window that appears, enter cttune;
- then check the box “Enable ClearType” and click “Next”.
After that, you will be offered a choice of several tests: squares with text will appear on the screen: choose the one on which the text is most readable on your monitor.
Screen. select a more readable font
After several such choices, testing will be completed, and the font will be optimized as much as possible for your hardware and your requirements.
