How to take a screenshot from the computer screen
Another standard method introduced in Windows 7 is the Scissors tool (Start. All Programs. Accessories. Scissors).
By clicking on the arrow next to the “Create” button, you can change the snapshot mode.
- Freeform. allows you to cut out an object as you need it, even with an asterisk # 128578;
- Rectangle. selects slices using a flat rectangular area
- Window. automatically takes a screenshot of the selected window, you do not have to outline it manually
- Full Screen. Automatically captures full screen like “Print Screen” key
After the snapshot, the screenshot is automatically uploaded for editing. Where with the help of some tools you can highlight the highlights of the picture.
Then click on the floppy image and save the file.
As you can see, this method is more convenient, a lot is done automatically, plus you can immediately select those parts of the picture that you need, and not take a picture of the whole screen and only then crop it separately.
Now you know the two easiest ways to take a screenshot of the screen, let’s move on.
Cool screenshot program
Now I want to introduce you to PicPick, an excellent screenshot program, with which I take all screenshots.
The installation of this program takes place in a standard way, the only thing you should pay attention to during installation is this window:
If you don’t want any nonsense to be installed additionally, then remove all the checkmarks and continue.
After installation, the program icon will appear in your tray:
By clicking on it, a menu with all the functions will open, but now we are interested in the main one, this is “Screen Capture”. Here, as with the Scissors tool, you can select a snapshot mode. But in order not to do this every time, I advise you to remember the key combinations that activate this or that mode.
You can view and configure them in the program settings, on the “Keys” tab. Most often, I only use three modes:
- Selected area. “Shift Print Screen”
- Active window. “Alt Print Screen”
- Entire screen. “Print Screen”
The finished pictures are also opened in the program window, which has many tools for editing the screenshot. By the way, you can take several screenshots at once and only then edit and save them.
Here is such a SIMple program for taking screenshots, the main thing is to remember the hotkeys and you can instantly take a screenshot at any time.
How to take a screenshot in several ways
Hello dear readers of softapps.ru
Today I will tell you what a screenshot is and why they are needed at all, after which we will look at at least four ways to create them.
In SIMple terms, a screenshot is a screenshot that captures everything that is currently displayed on the monitor. That is, the ability to photograph a computer screen without a camera # 128578; Every article on this site uses at least a few screenshots.
In this case, they help you to clearly explain to you what and how to do, without them it would be much more difficult to explain. Also, such pictures are often used when asking for help in those. support or just to other people.
For example, you bought a program, but during installation it always displays an error message and cannot be installed in any way. What to do? Naturally, you can write in those. support for this product.
And at the moment of describing your problem, it is much easier and more convenient to send a screenshot of that very window with an error than to try to explain in your own words what the problem is. This will save your time and the nerves of the person who will decide this issue # 128578;
In general, screenshots can be used in various situations, it is much more important to know how to take a screenshot of the screen.
How to take a screenshot of the screen without installing programs
First, let’s analyze the standard (but not very convenient) method.
You can take your first screenshot right now, just press the “Print Screen” key on your keyboard. Usually this key is in the top row, above the arrows, and may have a short name, for example “PrtSc”.
After clicking this button, the snapshot is sent to the clipboard.
Next, open the “Paint” program (Start. All Programs. Standard. Paint), and press “Paste” or the keyboard shortcut “CtrlV”. For those with an older version of Paint, click on the “Edit” menu, then “Paste”.
After the screenshot opens, you can edit it like any other picture using the program’s tools. Once you have finished, click on the “Menu” button, then “Save As”, select the desired format (most often jpeg), and then save the picture to your computer.
How to take a screenshot of a web page
Now I’m not talking about some elements that are on the web page, but about it in general.
The difficulty lies in the fact that pages on the Internet often have scrolling. That is, even if you take a screenshot of the entire screen, the bottom of the page will not fall into it, I think this is understandable.
Therefore, here, the first two methods will obviously not help you. PicPick has a “Scrolling Window” function, but it works well with Windows windows, but the Internet pages are not very effective.
So I found an extension for the Google Chrome browser called Awesome Screenshot: Capture Annotate.
After you install this extension, the program icon in the form of a lens will appear in the upper right corner of the browser.
Clicking on which will open a menu with three modes:
- Capture Visible Part of Page. a snapshot of the visible part of the page
- Capture Selected Area. a snapshot of the selected part on the page
- Capture Entire Page. and finally, a screenshot of the entire page
After the page is scrolled, a new window will open with the finished screenshot. Using the panel at the top of the page, you can edit the snapshot, then click the “Done” button.
Wait for the screenshot to load, then click the “Save” button in the right menu and save the screenshot to your computer.
This concludes our lesson, I hope now you understand how to take screenshots. Thanks for attention! # 128578;
This tool appeared in Windows Vista and is in all the latest versions, including Windows 10. Windows “Scissors” is a very handy application that allows you to capture a screen and save a screenshot of the desktop, both the entire screen and separately selected windows and areas (rectangle or freeform).
You can save the screen in PNG, JPEG and GIF formats. It is possible to send a screenshot by e-mail (e-mail).
There is a built-in image adjustment function. After taking a screenshot, in the Tools menu, you can select something, paint, erase, and use other SIMple image editing functions.
And so, now let’s look at how to make a screenshot of the computer screen using the Windows “Scissors”.
- Open “Start. All programs. Standard. Scissors”.
- The application window will start with all the settings. Select the required form for capturing from the drop-down list. It can be either the entire screen or a separate object.

Windows scissors is a very handy tool for capturing the screen and taking screenshots. This application is perfect for everyone who needs to fix the screen and make small corrections, markings right in the application without using graphic editors, as it is necessary to do when using the Print Screen key. Also, instant sending by e-mail makes “Scissors” an excellent assistant in creating screenshots. If you often have to take screenshots, it is better to add “Scissors” in a prominent place for quick launch. To do this, you need to right-click on the application icon and select “Pin to the taskbar”.
Using the Print Screen key, you can easily take a screenshot of the computer screen, and using the “Scissors” tool is completely convenient: flexible settings, editing right in the application window, plus instant sending a screenshot by email. But for those who need more tools with a minimum number of actions, the “Screenshot” utility is perfect.
How to take a screenshot using the Print Screen key:
- In order to take a screenshot of the desktop, just press the Print Screen key. After that the screenshot is saved to the clipboard. To display it, you need to use a graphics editor, such as Paint, or a word processor, like Word.
- Open, for example, Paint, which is the default in Windows. Further, after opening, click on the insert button from the top left, or using the Windows key combination. WinV.
- The editor will now display a screenshot of the computer screen. To save it, just click on “File. Save As”, select the format and location for saving the image, and then click on the “Save” button.
You can use other editors as well. After inserting the image, the screen can be edited, cropped, selected, marked, added a description. Such functions, the most common, are also in Paint.
Screenshot of a separate window:
If you need to fix not the entire screen (as in the previous version), but only a part, let’s say this is a window of some program. Then you need:
- Use keyboard shortcut, press AltPrint Screen keys together.
- Open a graphics editor. Insert image. Save.
In this case, not the entire screen will be screened, but only the window that is launched above all other folders / programs. This allows you to remove all unnecessary and take a picture of the desired object, for example, the window of a running program. Extra margins in this case are cut off.
Print Screen key on laptop:
Some laptop or netbook manufacturers (such as Lenovo) have many keyboard functions enabled with the Fn key. They are highlighted in one color, for example, the Fn key is blue, which means that other functions, the icons of which are highlighted in blue on the keyboard, are performed only when combined with the Fn key.
This must be taken into account, because the Print Screen function can be used precisely with the Fn key.
Screenshot from Print Screen in Windows 8/10:
Unlike Windows 7 and older versions, in Windows 8 and Windows 10, you can immediately save a screenshot to a file, without using the Paint graphic editor (as in the example above). To do this, you need to use the WinPrint Screen key combination.
Save a screenshot of the screen, in this case, in documents, Windows 8: “Pictures. Screenshots” or Windows 10: “Pictures. Screenshots”.
Print Screen key
Perhaps the easiest way to create a screenshot of the screen is using a special button on the keyboard. Print Screen (print screen). This button is located on the first row of buttons, after the function keys F1-F12. It can be called in different ways: Prt Scr, Prnt Scrn, Prt Scn. It is located on the same button with “SysRq”.
It is not difficult to find the Print Screen button on the keyboard, the picture below shows where it is located:

- formats to save. At the moment, the image is saved only in PNG format, it is worth adding a JPEG as well, at least.
- Server account. It would be very convenient if you can somehow keep all your screenshots in one place, you can add the function of creating an account and saving further screenshots there.
- Multiplatform. Well, it would be quite nice to make support on other platforms (OS X, Linux, Android, iOS).
Basically, the rest of the application’s functions are very well thought out and unnecessary too. The Screenshoter utility deserves attention as one of the best screen capture applications. Let’s hope that the developers will continue to work on this wonderful utility and add more useful functions, but for now we will support them, use what we have and will wait for new updates.
There are many more programs that allow you to take pictures of your computer screen. They are not in this article due to monotony or lack of functions. Of the rest, one can single out, perhaps, “Joxi”, which has advantages over other utilities.

All about working with video
Using the PrintScreen Function
Let’s start with the most basic: Windows’ built-in screenshot function. To create screenshots, the system has a PrtSc (Print Screen. Screenshot) button. It is located on the keyboard in the upper right.
When you click on this button, the contents of the computer window are copied to the clipboard.
To look at the resulting screenshot, you need to open some graphics editor, for example, Photoshop or the Paint program included in the Windows system.
Then select the Paste menu or press the SIMilar keyboard shortcut CtrlV. The screenshot will open in the program window.
You can edit it (change colors, size, brightness, etc.) or immediately save it in any graphic format (jpg, png, etc.) on your computer.
Then you can use it for its intended purpose, for example, in a presentation or send it by e-mail.
If you need to take a screenshot not of the entire screen, but only of the active window, press AltPrtSc, and a screenshot of only the upper window will appear in the clipboard.
Pay attention to the following points, without which you may not succeed.
If you press PrtSc and nothing is copied to the clipboard, then you have a multimedia keyboard or laptop. This can be determined if the upper buttons have two icons, i.e. the button can work in two modes.
In this case, you have a mode switch button on your keyboard. For example, on my keyboard, it is indicated by the letter F and is located at the top left, and on a laptop Fn and is in the bottom row second from the left. Your location may differ, but you will definitely find it.
This means that in this case, to get a screenshot of the entire screen, you need to press the combination FPrtSc (FnPrtSc), and to get a screenshot of the active FAltPrtSc.
Second note: if you use Paint, it immediately opens a new document into which you can paste the contents of the clipboard. In Photoshop, you first need to create a new document, and then paste a picture from the clipboard.
This method is not very convenient, but it will work fine if there is no alternative.

Capturing an image from a computer screen (screenshot)
The topic of this article has matured after repeated requests from site visitors or mailing list subscribers with the question: how to take a screenshot of a computer screen or a screenshot?
A person asks a question about working in a program and tries to explain what exactly the program gave him, what he sees on the screen.
In order not to try to explain in words or rewrite the program message manually, there are ways to capture an image from the screen or, in other words, take a screenshot (screenshot).
You may need screenshots for different purposes, for example, when describing a program, I use screenshots of its windows on the pages of the site. Let’s look at the SIMplest ways to take screenshots.
There are a lot of programs for taking screenshots. For example, there is a very powerful and multifunctional program SnagIt, which can take not only images from the screen, but also sound and video.
But if you need to take a SIMple screenshot, it is better to use a SIMpler program.
For example, I often use the small CaptureScreen program, which does an excellent job of taking screenshots, in addition, it is free, does not require installation and has a size of 0.5 MB.
When the program starts, a semitransparent window appears, on which there are no other buttons except to minimize and close.
This window must be stretched with the mouse to the desired size, its translucency makes it possible to see what falls into the area of your screenshot.
Take a look at capturing part of this page using Capture Screen for example:
All work with the program is carried out through the context menu. To make it appear, move the mouse over the program window and press the right button.
In the drop-down menu (shown in the picture), select the first Capture function and click on it. The program window instantly fills with the contents of the screen and ceases to be transparent.
If you are not satisfied with the screenshot view, open the context menu again and click Clear. We make changes, for example, specify the size of the window and repeat the capture.
After the capture, the Save function becomes active (again, right-click on the screen).
Clicking on Save brings up a window in which you select a location for the saved file, give it a name and define the graphic format.
Pay attention to the bottom line File type: in the drop-down menu you select the extension, i.e. format. All popular formats are offered: png, jpg, bmp, gif, tif.
If you do not choose a format, your screenshot will be saved in png format, because it is the default (first in the list).
After clicking the Save button, you will receive the captured screenshot, which you can use as you wish. Thus, in three clicks you get a screenshot.
CaptureScreen has some more features that you can see in the context menu. the program can correct color, add effects, create miniatures, print, etc.
I do not use these functions, I only need the program to quickly get screenshots, but for editing them (for example, for posting on a website page) I prefer to use Photoshop.
The program is very SIMple and useful, you can download it below or find it on the Internet, there are later versions there.
