How To Take A Screenshot Of A Part Of The Screen
How to launch Slice and Sketch
I found 5 ways to start creating screenshots using Screen Snippet, I’m not sure if all of them will be useful to you, but I will share:
- Use Win Shift S hotkeys (Win is the Windows logo key).
- In the start menu or in the search on the taskbar, find the Snippet and Sketch application and launch it.
- Run the “Screenshot” item in the Windows notification area (may not be there by default).
- Launch the standard “Scissors” application, and from it. “Sketch on a fragment of the screen“.
It is also possible to assign the launch of the utility to the Print Screen key: to do this, go to Settings. Accessibility. Keyboard.
Turn on the item “Use the Print Screen button to start the function of creating a fragment of the screen”.
Using Screen Snapshot to Take Screenshots in Windows 10
Windows 10 Fall 1809 Update introduces a new tool to take screenshots of a screen or an area of it and easily edit the captured screenshot. In different places of the system, this tool is called slightly differently Screen Fragment, Fragment and Sketch, Sketch on Screenshot, but they mean the same utility.
In this simple tutorial on how to take a screenshot of Windows 10 using a new feature that will replace the built-in Scissors utility in the future. The rest of the ways to take screenshots continue to work the same as before: How to take a screenshot of Windows 10.
Taking a screenshot
If you run the utility from the Start menu, search or from “Scissors”, the editor of the created screenshots will open (where you need to click “Create” in order to take a screenshot), if you use other methods, the creation of screenshots will immediately open, they work in a slightly different way (the second step will be different):
- At the top of the screen, you will see three buttons: to take a screenshot of a rectangular screen area, a free-form screen fragment, or a screenshot of the entire Windows 10 screen (the fourth button is to exit the tool). Click on the desired button and, if required, select the desired area of the screen.
- If you started creating a screenshot in the Slice and Sketch application already running, the newly created snapshot will open in it. If using hotkeys or from the notification area, the screenshot will be placed in the clipboard with the ability to paste into any program, and a notification will appear, by clicking on which a “Screen fragment” with this image will open.
In the “Slice and Sketch” application, you can add captions to the created screenshot, delete something from the image, crop it, save it to your computer.
There are also options for copying the edited image to the clipboard and the “Share” button, standard for Windows 10 applications, which allows you to send it through supported applications on your computer.
I do not presume to estimate how convenient the new feature is, but I think it will be useful for a novice user: most of the functions that may be required are present (except, perhaps, for creating a screenshot by timer, you can find this feature in the “Scissors” junk).
PSR (Problem Steps Recorder)
PSR is a tool that allows you to make instructions, which records all your actions and takes screenshots of small sizes. Unfortunately PSR is NOT available in all branches of Windows, for example, in the Home version (home) most likely it is not.
PSR will be useful if you are trying to explain to a familiar computer scientist what your problem is and if He does not quite understand you. After launching this function, you can record all your actions that led to the problem. Or you can create instructions, because PSR will record all your actions in the form of text and place screenshots next to it, and at the end it will create a small archive with all the contents.
To find the given function. you need to enter PSR in the search bar and press the Enter key.
Left-click on “Start recording” and at the end stop the recording, as a result you will receive an archive in which all your actions from the screenshot will be described.

Prt Scr. The key is usually located in the upper center or right side of the keyboard, immediately along the F1-F12 row. Before clicking on it, make sure the screen is displayed exactly the way you want to capture it. The most difficult thing for a beginner begins precisely after clicking on Print Screen, because at first it is not clear where the screenshot is saved. But it is the user himself who determines the location of the screenshot, for which you will need to perform a few more actions.
Open any image editor, for which the standard Windows program. MS Paint is quite suitable. The application is located in the section of standard programs, access to which is opened through the “Start” menu. Once MS Paint starts, click on the menu section “Editing” and select “Paste”. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of the described method to take a screenshot of the screen on a computer using the keyboard. Its advantages are as follows:
- Comparative simplicity and availability;
- compatibility with all versions of Windows;
- data security.
Despite the number of actions required to obtain and save a screen, the “Print Screen Paint” method remains the most accessible and understandable for both beginners and advanced users. To obtain an image, it is not necessary to resort to the help of third-party programs and people, which helps prevent the leakage of personal data and infection of the computer with viruses. However, this method also has disadvantages:
- a large number of actions;
- Perceptible time costs;
- keyboard addiction.
The method of capturing the screen through the Prt Scr key takes some time to get used to, so there is often confusion in the sequence of actions, which is why you have to turn to the help of specialists again and again. In addition, not everyone may have a workable keyboard with the right key at hand, so every self-respecting user of a personal computer is obliged to figure out additional ways to get a coveted picture.
How to take a screenshot of the computer screen if there is no Print Screen button
Many users are interested in how to take a picture of a computer or laptop screen if the required Print Screen button is missing? For a start, it’s still worth looking for it, because, as mentioned earlier, it can be called differently: Prt Scr, PrScr, or even just have a screen icon. The location of the key may also vary depending on the equipment. However, the oldest computers, which are still installed in many Russian offices, do have Print Screen buttons. In this case, special programs will come to the rescue, with the help of which you can easily take a screenshot of the screen on a computer or laptop. Also, applications will be an excellent solution for those who just want to Reduce the time of creating and saving screens.
There are many different programs for creating a screenshot, but it is best to immediately pay attention to the simplest and free applications, which at the same time have long established themselves well among ordinary users. If you try to install the first program that comes across the network, there is a big risk of simply not understanding all of its functions or, even worse, picking up a virus from the site where the attacker is operating. So, Lightshot is considered to be one of the best apps of its kind. The program is quickly installed and integrated into the system, starting to run when it starts. In the settings, you can assign any key to take a screenshot, while after pressing it, the image is immediately saved to a user-friendly folder. Thus, the box is created in just one step.
You can use the Closest analogue of Lightshot. the “Screenshot” program, which has similar functionality, and which also allows you to take a screenshot of the screen in one action. Snagit and ClIP2net are pretty good for convenience, which also have their own image editor that allows you to quickly and easily process the resulting box. However, there are also certain downsides to the way you capture screenshots with apps:
- NOT compatible with all versions of Windows;
- deterioration in system performance;
- time spent on development.
Alas, most programs do not actually work on the oldest computers, and if installed, they significantly slow down the system with a weak hardware configuration. In addition, it will take some time to learn all the functions of the program and remember how to use it. However, in the future, the process of creating screenshots can be simplified tenfold. Thus, each user decides in his own way which method suits him best. If you rarely have to take screenshots of the screen on a computer, it will be enough to remember the “Prt Scr Paint” procedure, but if such a need arises every day, you should think about choosing a program that is suitable for convenience.

Screenshots taken in this way are of relatively low quality. Agree, it’s stupid to take a screenshot of one phone with the second?

Next, I launch the Paint graphic editor and insert our window there using the CtrlV keyboard shortcuts.
In the “Home” tab, I click the “Crop” item and select the part of the photo I need:
Next, I right-click on that piece of the photo that I have selected and select the “Crop” item from the drop-down menu.
In total, I got a picture of the logo, which is what I wanted. It remains only to save it by clicking on the leftmost tab in the form of an arrow and selecting “Save As”.
Only when you save the picture, it is better to choose the jpg format and preferably the place where you saved it is not forgotten.
Watch the tutorial. in which I show how to take different screenshots in this way:
Using a mini-program such as Scissors. It is located along this path: “Start. All Programs. Accessories. Scissors”.
The program seems to be good, but not in all cases allows you to take a picture of what you want. However, if you need to take a quick photo of something, then it will do just right.
We launch the program. In the “Create” tab, you can select areas of the screen to photograph. Here you can take photos of both the whole screen and a separate window, and you can also take pictures of an arbitrary rectangular area or, in general, an area of arbitrary shape. I choose “Rectangle”
And right away I photograph my logo. In order to save the picture, you need to click on the floppy disk. That’s all.
