The screen of the Honor 10 is slightly lighter (brightness in the photos is 129 versus 120 for the Nexus 7). The doubling of reflected objects in the Honor 10 screen is very weak, which indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen (more specifically, between the outer glass and the surface of the LCD matrix) (OGS-type screen. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable value. In automatic mode, when the ambient light conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases. The operation of this function depends on the position of the brightness control, by which the user can try to set the desired brightness level under the current conditions. If you do not intervene, in complete darkness, the auto brightness function reduces the brightness to 4.8 cd / m2 (very dark), in an office lit with artificial light (about 550 lx) sets it to 170 cd / m2 (normal), in a very bright environment ( corresponds to outdoor lighting on a clear day, but without direct sunlight. 20,000 lux or slightly more) increases to 490 cd / m² (to the maximum, this is what you need). The brightness level of the backlight depends on the position of the slider in dark and medium conditions, and in very bright environments it is always set to maximum. The default result did not satisfy us, so we moved the slider slightly to the right in complete darkness and for the three conditions indicated above, we got 20, 200 and 490 cd / m² (perfect combination). It turns out that the automatic brightness control function works adequately and allows the user to customize his work for individual requirements. At any brightness level, there is no significant backlight modulation, so there is no screen flicker either.

This device has a dynamic adjustment of the backlight brightness with an unobvious dependence on time and on the nature of the displayed image. As a result, the obtained dependence of brightness on the hue (gamma curve) may not correspond to the gamma curve of a static image, since the measurements were carried out with sequential output of gray shades on almost the entire screen. In general, such a non-switchable brightness correction does nothing but harm, since a constant change in screen brightness can at least cause some discomfort.
The color gamut is wider than sRGB and almost equal to DCI:
The spectra of the components are well separated, which leads to a wide color gamut. We have already seen this in the case of, for example, the Sony Xperia Z2 and other mobile devices. Sony points out that these screens use LEDs with a blue emitter and a green and red phosphor (usually a blue emitter and a yellow phosphor), which, in combination with special matrix light filters, allows a wide color gamut. Yes, and in the red phosphor, apparently, the so-called quantum dots are used. For a consumer device, a wide color gamut is in no way an advantage, but a significant drawback, since as a result, the colors of images. drawings, photographs and films. oriented to the sRGB space (and there are the overwhelming majority of them) have an unnatural saturation. This is especially noticeable on recognizable shades, such as skin tones. The result is shown in the photos above.
However, not everything is so bad: when you select the Normal profile, the coverage is compressed to the sRGB borders.
Colors in images become less saturated (and color balance changes slightly):
The balance of shades on the scale is a compromise, since the color temperature is significantly higher than the standard 6500 K, but the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (ΔE) is below 10, which is considered an acceptable indicator for a consumer device. At the same time, the color temperature and ΔE vary little from shade to shade. this has a positive effect on the visual assessment of the color balance. To summarize: the screen has a high maximum brightness and has good anti-reflective properties, so the device can be used outdoors without any problems even on a sunny summer day. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable level. It is also acceptable to use the mode with automatic brightness adjustment, which works adequately. Also, the advantages of the screen include an effective oleophobic coating, no air gap in the layers of the screen and no flicker, high contrast, excellent uniformity of the black field, sRGB color gamut (when choosing the correct profile) and good (after correction) color balance. The disadvantages are the low stability of black to deviation of the gaze from the perpendicular to the plane of the screen. Given the importance of characteristics for this particular class of devices, the screen quality can be considered high.

There are no special “chips” that flagship cameras boast of (predictive 4D autofocus, hybrid stabilization), but the functioning of the camera is completely transferred to the shoulders of artificial intelligence. The camera copes well in limited lighting conditions, night photos are not that much noisy, although, of course, there is no such specialized night shooting mode as in the extraordinary Huawei P20 Pro camera. In daylight, the quality is generally excellent, both in detail and in color rendition. Of course, there can be no question of any resolution of 24 megapixels, when looking at pictures in full size, you can see noise reduction strokes, problems of stretching a 16-megapixel color picture, and other artifacts of software processing, but after reducing the picture several times, the picture is very attractive. Contrasting scenes work well in highlights and shadows, the dynamic range is wide. True, the colors are a little unnatural, and the faces, as usual, are slightly reddened.
The camera can shoot video in a maximum resolution of 4K at 30 fps, as well as 1080p at 60 fps. Now you can independently choose which codec to use (H.265 (HEVC) or H264). There is no clever hybrid stabilization, like the flagships, only electronic. The camera shoots video well, especially for its level, the picture is bright and bright, there are no complaints about sharpness and detail. Autofocus happens to be readjusted on the fly, but this happens with any automatic focusing machine. The sound is also recorded cleanly, the noise reduction system works adequately, does not introduce distortion.

The only thing I hate is that Huawei continues to stuff its smartphones with a bunch of free third-party programs and samples of paid games. It is clear that all of these are mutually beneficial partnership programs, but there is a feeling that the company has already outgrown this level and can afford to please its customer, relieving him of this annoying “ballast”.
In terms of sound, Honor 10 is good, other expensive flagships (for example, Sony) do not produce as thick and rich sound as the hero of the review, which is practically not inferior in this parameter to its more top-class relatives. And in headphones, and even through a loudspeaker, the sound is purest, saturated with a wide range of frequencies, extremely pleasant to the ear, the volume reserve is sufficient. Huawei Histen audio effects technologies allow you to enable 3D sound effect and choose from presets of the equalizer. however, all this becomes available only with connected headphones.
A separate Real HD Sound program with a set of preset equalizer values and a manual adjustment function is responsible for sound settings. The dictaphone demonstrates good sensitivity, FM-radio is not built in here.
