How to take steps on the lock screen
Windows 10 lock screen: features, instructions and recommendations
The welcome lock screen in the tenth version of Windows is initially encountered by all users who installed this operating system, since it is activated by default. In other words, if a user-specific screen lock password is used, the screen will appear constantly when changing the account or when waking up from sleep mode. Owners of home stationary computer terminals or laptops, by and large, do not really need this function. But for office workers, when several users can be registered on one terminal, it will come in handy.
However, not everyone knows that the Windows 10 lock screen itself can be customized as you see fit. In addition, it performs not only a blocking function, but also has a lot of informative capabilities. Next, some tips will be given on how to configure it, and, if necessary, to turn it off.
Windows 10 lock screen: purpose and main functionality
So, the main purpose of the screen, as already mentioned, when using a password for accessing the system is to prohibit login under a specific account. Roughly speaking, this is a certain function related to the security of the system and the protection of user data.
On the other hand, many probably noticed that at the moment when the screen is locked, some additional elements are shown on the display. By default, this is the time and date. In general, it is very convenient, but for greater comfort, the user can simply change the screensaver (background), add some additional elements in the form of standard applications, or enable the display of notifications that will be displayed without directly logging into the system under his registration.
Actions on mobile devices
Since we are initially talking about the Windows 10 operating system, we will consider the actions carried out on mobile devices very briefly.
On Android devices, such as Samsung smartphones or tablets, the screen lock is configured through the personal data section and the security menu. There are several options for actions to be taken. If blocking the device is not required, you can set a complete shutdown.
Please note: if a PIN-code or pattern is used as protection, when you try to access the settings, the system will prompt you to enter them.
In iPhone, the screen lock is disabled through the basic settings, where the screen section and brightness are selected. It has an auto-blocking point where you can set a waiting interval or disable blocking completely. If this item is unavailable (highlighted in gray), you must first disable the power saving mode through the battery settings.
In both cases, through the initial screen or its parameters section, you can select a picture that will be set as the background.
Setting slide show options
However, locking the screen will be more interesting and unusual if you set the slideshow mode. You can select it in the same list where the photo setting was used. In this case, you can add not one, but several pictures (by adding them one by one or by specifying the whole folder containing them).
If necessary, you can use the advanced options button to go to advanced settings. There are four main options here that the user can activate or deactivate by customizing the slideshow behavior for themselves.
Windows 10 lock screen: customize the background
First, let’s look at changing the background. In some ways, this is similar to the standard setting of the displayed picture on the “Desktop”, but this action is performed somewhat differently.
The screen lock in the first step is configured from the personalization menu, which can be accessed through the settings section, called up from the main menu “Start”. In the left part of the window, the corresponding line is selected, after which its type is selected in the drop-down list of the background. For example, let’s choose “Photo”. To select a picture, use the browse button located below, after which the required file is indicated, which will be displayed on the screen.
After the above steps, you need to configure the display of notifications. By default, this option is active. However, as they say, to be sure it is better to check it.
This is done in the parameters menu with the choice of the system section, in the menu of which you need to go to the item of notifications and actions. There is a line for showing notifications on the lock screen, in which you need to set the slider to the on position.
Adding program widgets
But only the above settings are not limited. For more informational content, you can add several applications to the screen.
To do this, in the main parameters, go to the block responsible for adding programs (it is located just below). You can immediately notice that there are several buttons responsible for standard applications (calendar, mail, alarm clock, clock, etc.). When you click on the button, a menu appears, from which the necessary widgets are selected. Along the way, you can immediately configure some parameters of the lock screen.
The only drawback of these settings is that you cannot add custom applications to the screen. By and large, this is not necessary. Although using some third-party software that allows you to manage some of the advanced features, you can do so.
How to set up different input languages on the login screen and after login
From the description above, there is a discrepancy in one scenario. If a person has an account password set in English, and in the system he wants to have Russian as the default input language, then it is not quite obvious how to achieve the desired result.
Solution: Group Policy
The problem is solved using the group policy Disallow copying of user input methods to the system account for sign in, which appeared in Windows 8 along with the new behavior. From the official description:
This policy setting prevents custom input methods from being automatically copied to the system account for use at the login screen.
The wording is not entirely accurate, because copying is performed not only to system accounts (which is not essential), but also to the user’s login screen. By the way, the policy broke in Windows 10 version 1709, but it was fixed in 1809.
You can enable the policy in gpedit.msc or in the registry, for example, from the command line as administrator:
In doing so, you should take into account that the policy fixes the language configured for the login screen, i.e. at HKU. The administrator, of course, can change it at any time. But if the system has users with passwords in different languages, some of them will have to switch the layout every time.
You can just import the below REG file and reboot the OS right away.
- Enable the policy “Prevent copying user input methods to the system logon account” and reboot.
- In Options, select the input language you want to set on the login screen for all users and copy the settings of the current user using the administrative language settings (control intl.cpl ,, 1)
Set the options you want in HKEY_USERS \.DEFAULT \ Keyboard Layout \ Preload.
- In the options, set the input language you want to have after logging in to your account.
Now the input language on the welcome screen will not change for users depending on the input language that they have set in the Options.
How to set up default input language after login
You are logged in, open the Start menu and start typing. Which language you see in the input field is the default. Out of the box, it matches the top preferred language, but you can override it in the advanced keyboard options.
How the default input language on the login screen works
Historically, the input language preferences on the welcome screen are set for all users in the HKEY_USERS section (my 2009 breakdown will help you brush up on HKU vs HKCU).
However, starting with Windows 8, the behavior has changed and now takes into account the language preferences of each user, rather than forcing one language for all at once.
The default input language set for your account simultaneously determines its pre- and post-login settings.
When you explicitly specify the language in advanced keyboard options, the change is expected to be written to the InputMethodOverride parameter under HKCU \ Control Panel \ International \ User Profile. However, the system also changes the parameter values in the HKCU \ Keyboard Layout \ Preload registry key.
Changes to the HKCU section mean that the configuration of one account does not affect others. For example, there are two accounts in the system. the first has English by default, and the second has Russian. If you select the first one on the login screen, it will have English, and if the second one. Russian.
At the same time, the HKCU settings prevail over the HKU!
Therefore, only by administrative copying (control intl.cpl ,, 1) or by making changes to the HKU registry key (which is the same) you will not be able to set common language on the login screen for all users.
The same is true for trying to set up different languages for the same user.
Is it really necessary
I understand the scenario, but the desire is strange, in my opinion. There are a couple of ways to do without special needs.
- You can use a digital PIN, which is perfectly acceptable at home. I understand that fans of complex passwords will not be satisfied with this, but at the same time, I can hardly imagine why such experienced users have Russian input language in the OS;)
- You can change not the input language on the login screen, but the password language, i.e. set a user password in your preferred language! Indeed, if you set up the Russian input language after logging in, then why do you need an English password?
If the desire to set different languages is irresistible or the organization needs to install English for everyone on the login screen, read on!
How to disable
Not every user needs to keep track of their steps. Therefore, we will learn how to turn off the pedometer on Huawei.
The developers of Huawei smartphones did not provide for the possibility of turning off this function. But if you are determined to remove all unnecessary functionality from your phone, simply uninstall the Health app. This is the only way to disable activity tracking.
Another thing is when you need to remove the pedometer from the lock screen. If you no longer need pedometer alerts, you need to do the following:
- Enter phone settings.
- Find the section “Screen lock”.
- Move the slider near the inscription “Pedometer” to the off position.
What is a pedometer
Before starting a conversation about its functions, let’s briefly analyze what this option is. The built-in pedometer on the Huawei phone is powered by sensors that recognize the owner’s gestures and rotate the smartphone screen.
These sensors track the device in space, and in the same way calculate the steps taken. To make the calculation as accurate as possible, you need to put your smartphone in your pants when measuring steps. If the device is in a backpack or you hang it around your neck, the data will be very different from reality. The feature is available on any Huawei smartphone that is equipped with an accelerometer.
How to enable, disable and set up a pedometer on a Huawei smartphone
Pedometer is a useful feature that allows you to keep track of the number of steps you have taken. The user can monitor calorie consumption and health status. If your dream is to lose weight and keep fit, this feature will help. This article will tell you how to turn on the pedometer on Huawei, how to turn it off, and other important questions.
How to turn on
On Huawei, the pedometer is activated in two ways. The first, through the settings of the smartphone is very simple.
- You need to select phone settings.
- Go to the item “Security and privacy”.
- In the menu, you must select “Screen lock and passwords”.
- In the window that opens at the very bottom, switch the slider to the active position on the item “Pedometer on the lock screen”.
After the actions taken, nothing will need to be turned on all the time. You will be able to see the steps taken right on the lock screen.
The second method is more complicated, and allows you to accurately customize the functionality to fit your needs.
On Huawei smartphones there is a built-in application “Health”, with its help, the step meter is configured. To enter the program, on the first screen of your smartphone, look for the shortcut with the image of a heart.
The app displays the number of steps taken on the home screen. If you click on this number, you can see detailed information, for example, how many steps were taken per month, day and type of activity.
It is possible to use the Health program with a fitness bracelet for more accurate data. But even without it, the application can be used. In the “Geolocation” tab, a ready-made route is selected or your own is created.
When there is no pedometer on the phone or you want to see advanced functionality on the screen, you can download the application from the Play Market for free.
As you can see, this is a useful function that allows you to monitor your own activity and measure the number of steps taken.

How to customize the clock on the Samsung Galaxy lock screen?
If Samsung is your first Android smartphone, then you’re probably overwhelmed by the number of features the phone has. One of the frequent questions asked by many new users is how to change (remove) the clock on the Samsung Galaxy lock screen.
How to Change Clock on Samsung Galaxy Lock Screen?
There are many ways to change the clock on the lock screen, but there are so many ways to get confused. Now we will provide you with several ways to change the clock on the Samsung lock screen.
How to Remove Clock from Samsung Galaxy Lock Screen?
To remove the clock from the Samsung lock screen. Open the settings on your smartphone and scroll to the “Lock screen and security”
Tap on “Always On Display” to remove the clock from the Samsung lock screen. If you want to change the look, then open “Digital Clock”. Different styles of clocks will be shown here. Use the option on the bottom left called “Clock Style” to change the look of the clock on the lock screen and try out different styles.
Changing the clock using notifications
But until Samsung fixes and adds an option to choose the look of the watch (as in the Always On Display functions), there is one, so to speak, loophole that can be used. Namely, if notifications on the lock screen are enabled, you can pin something like a weather widget there.
Due to its location, the watch changes its format to a standard horizontal one. If this method suits you, then it is quite easy to do. For example, let’s take a weather app called 1Weather. Small and pleasant to look at, it will change your clock to horizontal.
- Install 1Weather from Play Store.
- Open the settings.
- Item “Lock screen and protection”.
- Punt “Notifications”.
- Find 1Weather.
- Turn on notifications for 1Weather.
As long as notifications remain on the lock screen, the annoying row position should not be displayed.
Use other themes
Some users managed to get rid of the unusual clock by replacing the default theme with an alternative one. This, of course, is not an option, but only a workaround, which will not be to everyone’s taste.
However, the choice is limited at the moment, so it’s worth giving it a try. There are also several paid themes, but until we are sure that after installing them the steps will not remain the same format, we do not recommend spending your money.
On the other hand, you can use free themes and fix the clock this way. Just follow the instructions:
- Open the settings.
- Item “Wallpapers and Themes”.
- Item “Topics” below.
- Find a topic called “Simple Line Black”.
- Install the theme and click “Apply”.
If you do not like the changed appearance of the icons and background, you can always change the wallpaper and restore the default appearance of the icons. Be sure to check the instructions below to change your home screen wallpaper, lock screen and restore icons.
- Open the Gallery and choose your preferred photo for the lock screen and home screen.
- Open the menu in the form of 3 dots and select “Set as wallpaper”.
- Then open the settings.
- Item “Wallpapers and Themes”.
- Item “Icons”.
- Select default view and save changes.
On the other hand, many users are happy with the pre-installed theme, but they all want to change that silly and annoying Samsung lock screen clock. Or rather, make them vertical like on all Android devices.
How to hide clock on Samsung lock screen?
Changing the themes on your phone can also help get rid of the clock on the lock screen. Browse the themes and select the one on which the lock screen has been altered in one way or another, be it a change in color or font.
For example, you can install the famous free WinterSnow theme by aire design. Install the theme to your smartphone and the clock on the lock screen will be changed.
Another way to change the clock on your Samsung lock screen is to install a weather app. I would suggest installing the Weatherbug app and not clearing notifications until they are updated. This will move the fingerprint reader, which will replace the clock on the lock screen.
Some users suggest to install Dream8 theme, which will also help to hide clock on Samsung lock screen.
With so many users unhappy about this, we can assume that Samsung will do something about it soon. Some of the upcoming updates should bring the watch to a more natural look. Until then, you can use the loopholes mentioned above.
How to set auto-lock time
You can turn off the screen on your iPhone or iPad at any time, but by default it will turn off automatically after two minutes to save power. If this deadline does not suit you, it is easy to change.
Note. You cannot change the auto lock time in power saving mode.

- starting setup from the home screen.
- Click on Touch ID Passcode.
- Enter your Passcode.
Scroll down and switch Wallet to from.
If you change your mind later, you can repeat the same steps to re-enable Wallet and Apple Pay.
Note. You can also control this in the “Settings” “Wallet” menu. Apple Pay, and how you install one will be reflected in the other.
Turn off lock screen notifications
Your toast notifications on the lock screen are incredibly convenient unless they reveal personal and confidential information that you would rather not disclose. This can be the name of a contact or message. In any case, you can turn them off in the settings. Unfortunately, only one at a time sigh.
- starting setup from the home screen.
- Click on Notifications
- Tap on the notification you want to turn off on the lock screen.
switch Show on lock screen in from
Repeat these steps for any app whose notifications you want to hide from the lock screen.
Note. Some apps may have additional privacy options. (for example, you can turn off previews for messages.)
Disable the lock screen through the group policy editor
All Windows operating systems have a useful Group Policy Editor service. You can get into it through the “Run” console. To do this, press two Win R keys on the keyboard at the same time.
The “Run” console will open, in which you need to register the command gpedit.msc
The Local Group Policy Editor window will open. On the left, open the branches “Computer Configuration”. “Administrative Templates”. “Control Panel”. “Personalization”.
In the right window, we find “Disabling the display of the lock screen” and double-click the left mouse button on this entry. A window will open in which you need to set the switch to the entry “Enabled”.
You can read how it works in the help below. After the changes, do not forget to click the “OK” button and restart your computer.
What the lock screen looks like in Windows
Basically, the lock screen is just a splash screen that appears when you boot your computer or when you wake up from sleep and hibernation.
In Windows 10, this feature is pretty interesting. Pictures change from time to time and the screen displays the date, time and even the battery charge, if it is a laptop or tablet. On the same screen, authorization takes place with entering a password and selecting accounts, if the computer is intended for several users.
If the account is without a password, then just press the “ENTER” button on the keyboard or the “Login” button on the screen.
Now go to the registry editor. To do this, press the Win R keys on the keyboard and in the Run window write the regedit command and press the OK button.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Personalization
If there is no Personalization branch, then it must be created. Right-click on the Windows branch and select in the drop-down menu.Create. Section-.
A new folder “New partition # 1” will appear in the Windows branch. Rename it to “Personalization”.
If something did not work out, then right-click on this folder and select “Delete”, and then repeat the operation.
Select the new folder “Personalization”, go to the right window, right-click on an empty space and select-New-QWORD Parameter (64 bits).
If you have a 32-bit system, then select. Parameter DWORD (32 bits) Name the new parameter in the right window NoLockScreen.
Double click on the new parameter and change the “Value” from 0 to 1. Click “OK” and restart the computer.
How to change the picture on the lock screen
If you have a desire to change the picture on the lock screen, then you need to right-click on the button free of shortcuts on the desktop and select the item “Personalization” in the context menu.
In the “Options” window, find the “Lock screen” and click on it once with the left mouse button.
On the right, you will see the picture that is currently displayed on your lock screen. I have it already changed.
Below in the “Select a photo” block, right under the pictures, click on the “Browse” button.
A window will open in which you need to find the picture you need. Select it and click the “Select picture” button.
Just below there is a switch “Show lock screen wallpaper on the login screen”
With it, you can enable or disable the display of the picture when you log in.
You can also configure the display of several pictures as a slideshow. To do this, in the “Background” block, set the “Slide Show” function and click on the “Add Folder” button below.
Choose a whole folder with pictures and the pictures on the lock screen will periodically change.
Below, under the “Add Folder” button, there is a link ” Slideshow Options”. By clicking on it, you can go to the window for additional slideshow settings.
The following methods work on all Windows systems.
How to remove or change the lock screen in Windows
As soon as you turn on the computer or wake it from sleep mode, the lock screen appears immediately. For some, this does not bother at all, and for some it just infuriates. Is it possible to simply remove the lock screen in Windows or change it to a nicer picture? This is what we are going to talk about now.
Disable the lock screen via the command line
We open the command line as administrator. In Windows 10, for this you need to right-click on the “Start” button, and select “Command Prompt (Administrator)” in the context menu.
Enter the following command on the command line:
% SystemRoot% \ system32 \ rundll32.exe USER32.DLL LockWorkStation
And press the “ENTER” button on the keyboard.
You can turn off the lock screen using third-party programs (such as Ultimate Windows Tweaker), but I think it’s not worth this screen to install a whole program for it, especially since it’s in English.
Ways to Fix Windows Problem Interesting
For the first of the described options, it will not be possible to offer a single solution recipe: it all depends on what exactly changed in the system and your desire to abandon the use of utilities that block certain functions of Windows 10.
The best solution in this case: disable all changes made (or reset Windows 10), disable VPN and proxy services, or use a slideshow of your own photos on the lock screen by selecting the appropriate option.
Disable the prohibition to change the background of the lock screen
In the second scenario, we can disable the policy that prevents the background image from changing:
- If you have Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise, press the WinR keys (Win is the Windows logo key), type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
- In the local group policy editor that opens, go to Computer Configuration. Administrative Templates. Control Panel. Personalization.
- Double-click the “Prevent changing lock screen image” option and set the value to “Disabled”. By default, the state of other parameters in the same section should be “Not set”.
- In Windows 10 Home, press the WinR keys, type regedit and press Enter.
- In Registry Editor, go to the key, and in this key, remove the NoChangingLockScreen parameter (or set its value to 0). Please note that there should not be any other parameters in this section (except “Default”).
After completing these steps, if you go to the lock screen settings again, the background selection should be unlocked.
Possible reasons why the lock screen background does not change
Among the possible reasons that lead to the fact that the wallpaper on the lock screen does not change when you select “Windows: Interesting”, there may be:
- Disabling individual Windows 10 services, updates and disabling system functions, often using various utilities to “disable tracking”. The fact is that the “Windows interesting” wallpaper comes from Microsoft servers, and with such locks, these servers can also be blocked. VPN and proxy use can have a similar impact.
- Blocks wallpaper changes in Local Group Policy Editor or Registry Editor. In this case, you will see that the background change option is not active, and at the top of the lock screen settings window the inscription: “Some of these parameters are hidden or controlled by your organization.”.
- Crash in the built-in Content Delivery Manager app that is responsible for getting new lock screen wallpapers.
Please note that selecting “Windows Cool” as the background does not mean that the wallpaper will change daily even if the function is working properly.
Windows Highlights Wallpaper Doesn’t Change on Windows 10 Lock Screen. How to Fix
If you use “Windows Cool” as your background for your Windows 10 lock screen, chances are that you will be among those users who do not change this wallpaper. In some cases, the option to change the background of the lock screen is not available at all and is grayed out.
This manual provides details on what to do if the lock screen background does not change, to fix the problem, what may be causing it, and additional information that may be useful for solving.
Troubleshooting Windows Wallpaper Changing Crashes Interesting
And finally, for the case when there are suspicions of malfunctioning of the lock screen, the actions will be as follows:
- Go to the lock screen settings and switch the background from “Windows Highlights” to any other item (slideshow or photo).
- Open the explorer, in the explorer address bar, paste the following line and press Enter
- Highlight and delete all files from this location. These are the cached lock screen wallpaper files, for more details: Where are the lock screen and Windows 10 desktop wallpapers stored.
- Just like in the 3rd step, go to the folder
- From this folder, copy the roaming.lock and settings.dat files to another location (or rename these files). The goal is to be able to return them when needed.
- Restart your computer (through the “Restart” item, and not shutdown and turn on), then go to the lock screen settings and turn on “Windows interesting” again.
- Check if the wallpaper change works (when the Internet is connected) by locking your computer or laptop, for example, using the Windows L keys.
If this does not help, you can try running Windows PowerShell as administrator (right-clicking on the Start button and selecting the appropriate menu item), enter the following command and press Enter:
After executing the command, restart your computer and check if that solved the problem.
As a rule, one of the proposed methods turns out to be workable. If there is no result, try performing a clean boot of Windows 10. If it works, the reason, most likely, is in some third-party programs or services.
