iPhone se touch ID not working

Touch ID does not work in the App Store

This is also a notable problem. Most often, the reason that the scanner stops working with the App Store is also a cosmetic factor, but often the problem occurs due to software malfunctions. Some users complain that since iOS 8.3, Touch ID is simply not displayed in the App Store.

In such and similar cases, we do the following:

  • click “Settings”. “Touch ID and Password”;
  • in the “Using Touch ID” section, disable “App Store, iTunes Store”;
  • restart the iPhone (or iPad);
  • we return to “Settings” again. “Touch ID and Password” and turn on “App Store, iTunes Store”.

After that, the Touch ID bug in the App Store should resolve itself. We also remind you that if you haven’t made any purchases in the App Store within 24 hours, the system will ask for a password at the entrance.

Touch ID does not work in winter or in cold weather

Statistics show that in low temperatures, the fingerprint scanner in the iPhone and iPad is more likely to fail. The problem, again, in most cases has a simple explanation. The fact is that in cold weather the papillary pattern of the fingers changes. It is difficult to notice these changes with the naked eye, but Touch ID notices them and starts to malfunction. As you probably already guessed, a nuisance is also treated by updating the fingerprint. But you can do even easier and enter a special “winter” print into the device’s memory. scan your finger pattern immediately from the cold. True, they say that both methods only partially solve the problem, but it’s still worth trying.

Touch ID doesn’t work at all

Of course, the likelihood that the fingerprint scanner is out of order also exists. Although users complain about such breakdowns relatively rarely. If, after updating the fingerprint, Touch ID did not work properly, then you can try “hard reset” by creating a backup. If the problem is programmatic, then a hard reboot should fix it. Otherwise, you will have to visit the service center, since it is unlikely that you can do without qualified diagnostics.

Touch ID not working. crash

If Touch ID fails, then a simple reconfiguration is recommended to deal with this nuisance. In other words, you need to retrain your iPhone (or iPad) to recognize your fingerprint. Since the appearance of scanners, Apple has regularly updated their software so that smartphones and tablets of users remember the “fingers” of their owners longer and better.

It seems like a radical optimization was carried out back in iOS 8, but, as practice shows, if you do not refresh the print, then over time (from a month or longer), Touch ID will fail anyway, but it happens. The reasons can be very different, but, as a rule, they are purely cosmetic in nature: slight “wear” of the print itself, dry skin of the finger, etc.

Therefore, if Touch ID suddenly malfunctioned, then first update the fingerprint in the memory of your smartphone or tablet. But first, you should carefully wipe the surface of the scanner and wash your hands. Next, go to “Settings”, then. to “Touch ID and Password”. We delete old prints by swiping across the screen from right to left. After that, we tap “Add a fingerprint” and re-carry out the standard procedure for entering a fingerprint according to the instructions.

If Touch ID Doesn’t Work on iPhone or iPad: How to Deal with the Problem

Touch ID is the official name for the fingerprint reader found on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones, as well as the iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4, iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro tablets. Apple claims that the newer version of Touch ID is installed in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus models, and on the forums, users claim that Touch ID often does not work, both the “old” and the new.

Touch ID is, of course, a useful solution, moreover, not only from a marketing point of view, but also from a purely practical one.

Users can use it to unlock their iPhones and iPads, log into accounts in various online services, and even pay for purchases using Apple Pay.

But only if Touch ID works fine. But, unfortunately, like any other electronics, this one is also sometimes capricious. Therefore, let’s figure it out.

To begin with, we note that if problems with Touch ID on your Apple device began after a recent update of its operating system to iOS 9 and / or even newer versions of it, then, most likely, a downgrade may be needed (i.e., a rollback of the system to the previous version), or, if the problems are not so critical, then it is better to wait for the next update.

With other problems of the fingerprint scanner in iPhones from 5s and newer, as well as in iPad mini 3, mini 4, Pro and Air 2, you can try to figure it out, so to speak, on your own and even at home. Fortunately, there are not many such problems, and the ways to eliminate them are already known. So if:

Touch ID does not work when dirty or wet

Well, there’s really nothing to explain here. It is clear that moisture or dirt (whether it is on the skin of the finger or on the surface of the scanner) is very effective in preventing any fingerprint from being scanned. Therefore, if the scanner has excess wet and / or dirty substances on it, it is better to wipe it with a dry, clean cloth. And you need to wash your finger (you can even wash it with your hands). However, you should not overdo it with water, because if you keep your hands in water for a long time, the fingertips will wrinkle and the papillary pattern will change for a while. Apple claims that in the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Touch ID works better with wet skin, but still the manufacturer does not recommend using the scanner with wet hands.

If Touch ID doesn’t recognize your finger well, try this

Touch ID began to be installed for the first time on the iPhone 5S in 2013. Later, the scanner was equipped with new models of iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro.

At the moment there are 2 generations of sensors that are used in Apple technology: Touch ID 1st generation is used in:

  • iPhone 5s;
  • iPhone 6/6 Plus;
  • iPhone SE;
  • iPad Air 2;
  • iPad mini 3/4;
  • iPad Pro 12.9 ″ (1st generation 2015);
  • iPad Pro 9.7 ″;
  • iPad 2017/2018.

Faster 2nd generation Touch ID installs in:

  • iPhone 6S / 6S Plus;
  • iPhone 7/7 Plus;
  • iPhone 8/8 Plus;
  • iPad Pro 10.5 ″;
  • iPad Pro 12.9 ″ (2nd generation 2017);
  • MacBook Pro 2016/2017.

The generations of sensors differ only in the speed of response, but not in the degree of fingerprint recognition. The features and tricks described below will work with both generations of Touch ID.

What affects how Touch ID works

The fingerprint sensor at the time of its appearance in the iPhone 5s was head and shoulders above the available solutions from competitors. The developers managed to create a device that correctly reads the owner’s fingerprint quite quickly and with high accuracy.

Two years later, the sensor was modified, halving the response time of the sensor.

The performance of the sensor is definitely affected by dirt and liquids. Maximum response accuracy is guaranteed with a clean sensor surface and no grease, dirt or water on the finger. Despite this, the scanner requires daily cleaning only under very difficult operating conditions.

Most users don’t need to wipe Touch ID or wash and dry their hands before using their smartphone.

What does not affect how Touch ID works

The sensor is not affected by ambient temperature and humidity. Even if you use the device in a cold place, when the skin on your fingers is slightly compressed, a minor change in the fingerprints will not seriously affect the operation of Touch ID.

Does not affect the response speed of the smartphone battery and its charge level. Some users mistakenly believe that a sensor with a charged battery performs better.

There is no confirmed evidence of the Touch ID learning system, where repeated touching the sensor in the Settings. Touch ID and passcode menu increases the accuracy of the sensor. In this menu, this is only intended to indicate the entered fingerprint.

How, then, to improve the accuracy of Touch ID

The essence of the method is to add several prints of one finger, but at different angles and in different positions. If the fingerprints of the wife / husband, children or relatives are not entered in the smartphone, you can fill all five slots with your data.

Use either two prints for a non-working hand and three for a working hand, or four for a working hand and one for a non-working hand.

Go to Settings. Touch ID & Passcode and delete existing fingerprints.

Now add a new fingerprint for the hand with which you most often hold your smartphone. Try to press the top of your fingerprint against the sensor when adding a fingerprint.

Add another fingerprint and re-enter the same finger, but use most of the touches with the lower part of the fingertip.

Add a third print for the same finger, but at the same time do not hold the smartphone in your hand with a normal grip, but in the most familiar place, for example, when taking the iPhone out of your

Now you can add two fingerprints for the thumb of the second hand, or just one such fingerprint, and with the last one fix the finger of the main one in another atypical position, for example, by clicking on the smartphone in the car holder.

By adding two prints to one finger (one for the top of the pad, and the other for the bottom), a large area of the skin can be entered into the memory of the device. When adding a fingerprint in a specific position (taking it out of a. in a holder or on a table), we teach the sensor to press a widespread press at a certain angle.

This simple method will allow you to minimize the percentage of false positives of the Touch ID sensor.

Why Apple has added a feature to disable Touch ID

Apple has once again decided to worry about the safety of its users. The Touch ID quick deactivation feature gives iPhone owners the ability to maximize the protection of their smartphones in the event of a variety of emergencies. By blocking Touch ID, the user will exclude the possibility of an attacker gaining access to the iPhone by placing the owners’ fingers on the scanner. Of course (and fortunately), such situations rarely arise, but Apple decided to foresee the actions of its customers in them too.

Another reason for the introduction of the Touch ID Quick Disable feature on the iPhone in iOS 11 is related to Apple’s desire to protect its users from law enforcement. Over the past year, there have been several cases in which police officers literally forced suspects to provide access to their iPhones by scanning their fingerprints.

The loudest of these cases occurred in February. Resident of Norway, suspected of committing a crime, ordered to unlock iPhone via Touch ID. By a court ruling, fingerprint blocking of smartphones was deemed unprotected by the country’s constitution. This implies that, at the request of the police, any iPhone user is required to unlock their Touch ID-protected smartphone.

How to quickly disable Touch ID on iPhone

Told how to use the new feature in iOS 11.

In iOS 11, Apple added a new feature that allows users to quickly disable the Touch ID fingerprint scanner. This manual explains why such a function is needed at all, how to set it up and how to use it.

How to quickly disable Touch ID on iPhone

Note: This feature only works on iPhones running iOS 11 or later.

In order to disable Touch ID on the iPhone, you must quickly press the “Power” button five times in a row. Successful operation will display a screen asking you to turn off the iPhone or make an emergency call. At the same time, the function blocks Touch ID, informing you that a passcode is required to activate the fingerprint scanner. In this case, it will be possible to unlock the iPhone only with a password. IOS 11 and previous versions of the operating system set a similar limitation every time the iPhone is restarted.

You do not need to make any special settings to enable the function. over, these very settings are not presented in iOS. In the “Settings” → “Emergency SOS” menu, users can only activate the option to automatically call the emergency number by pressing the “Power” button five times and set up emergency contacts. Recent contacts will receive notification messages in case you called emergency services.

Touch ID does not work. iPhone SE.

Very often in the secondary market for iPhones, you can find ads for the sale of iPhones with a non-working Touch ID. as a rule, much cheaper than similar phones with a working Touch ID function. Touch ID. fingerprint reader function. The scanner is located in the Home button. In the event of a button breakage, simple replacement will not restore finger reading. This is due to the fact that the button itself contains a microchip with a stitched serial number of the phone. It is impossible to get around this, since there is no software for flashing the button. Even large Chinese companies involved in the restoration of iPhones, which have invested large sums in their business and have revealed many of Apple’s secrets, cannot find the algorithm for flashing the Touch ID button. In most cases, repairing the Touch ID function is either impossible or very expensive. Therefore, the price of such iPhones is lower.

There are three main reasons for touch ID failure:

  • Breaking the loop of the Home button. repair is possible, success rate is 20%
  • Water penetration between the button and the glass of the screen. repair is possible, success. fifty%
  • Faulty motherboard. repair is possible, success is 95%

It is very rare to restore the Home button loop due to the small size of the loop itself. Very thin paths are difficult to splice, and if successful, such repairs are short-lived in practice. Water entering the Home button can damage the chip inside the button. Faults in the motherboard are often localized and eliminated.

An iPhone SE phone with a non-working Touch ID got into our workshop. Previously, this device was repaired after a serious fall, a modem was rolled over. a microcircuit responsible for cellular communication. After the repair, about a month later, the fingerprint began to periodically not respond. Diagnostics showed the normal state of the loop, but there is no signal from the U4040 microcircuit, it must be removed for further verification

iPhone SE. Touch ID does not work. When I turn on my phone, I get a message that I can’t activate Touch ID on this iPhone.

IPhone SE diagram. Home button power supply chip. Break from the connector of the button to the penny A3.

We remove the microcircuit with a soldering station. We see a cliff of important dimes.

Under the microscope, we solder thin wires imitating tracks.

We clean the microcircuit, roll new balls and solder it into place. Photo through a microscope. Chip size 1.5×1.5mm.

We turn on the phone, lo and behold, the “Add fingerprint” item is active.

The finger is read normally, the repair is done.

Touch ID Stopped Working. How I Solved This Problem!?

Hello everyone! As has been repeatedly noted on the blog, all articles are those problems or questions that either I myself or my acquaintances have encountered. Actually for this, the site was created. to share personal experience and help others with the “apple” technique. And so, my already quite old, but still working iPhone 5S “threw” me another idea for the instruction. it suddenly stopped working Touch ID.

And, as it seemed to me at the first moment, it happened finally and irrevocably. No, but what else can you expect? The device is far from new. Chips, scratches, scuffs, falls. all this was and is. Natural wear and tear of the device. there is no escape 🙂 Therefore, when the Touch ID fell off, I was not very surprised. Surprise came only later, in the process of solving this problem however, let’s talk about everything in order.

  • I upgraded to iOS 10.3.1
  • After some time, I began to notice that the sensor for unlocking does not always work. But as usual I did not attach any importance to this. maybe the hands are dirty or something else.
  • But after I could not enter the client bank by fingerprint, in my head “solitaire” was formed. Touch ID does not work.

Looking ahead, I will note that everything was resolved safely. But what actions had to be taken for this?

It is worth noting that if your iPhone has a non-native Home button (for example, replaced after repair), then Touch ID will not function on it. Never. The fingerprint sensor is hard-wired to the motherboard. One board. one Home button. Also, some sellers immediately sell an iPhone with an inoperative scanner. I already wrote what kind of devices they are.

But our problem is different. the iPhone stopped recognizing the fingerprint, although nothing happened to it (except for the iOS update).

I thought it was a simple “glitch” of the system and did this:

  • To begin with, I forcibly performed a hard reboot. it’s very simple. And in some cases it helps to get rid of system crashes. But not at this time.
  • Opened “Settings. Touch ID and Passcode”, deleted the old fingerprint and tried to add a new one. There were no problems with the removal, but at the stage of adding a new one, the scanner simply did not read my finger and showed a white screen. Sometimes adding an inscription. “You pressed the button. Place your finger on the Home button without pressing it “.
  • Well, I think things are really bad. we need to do a firmware restore. Backed up and recovered
READ  How to Connect Locked iPhone to iTunes

And here, it would seem, everything should end. But no. the miracle didn’t happen and Touch ID still didn’t work. After that, it became clear that the problem was “iron”. And it consists in the loop of the Home button:

  • It may be damaged (moisture, careless assembly or disassembly of the device).
  • It may simply not be inserted (not fully installed).

And it seems like this is not my case. I didn’t wet the iPhone, and since the last disassembly the scanner worked fine

But all the same, the device had to be disassembled and this is what happened:

  • I took apart the iPhone.
  • Disconnected the loop of the Home button.
  • Looked at him and, as expected, saw nothing. he is in perfect condition.
  • Put it back.
  • Touch ID is working.

Honestly, the result I got surprised me a little 🙂

I don’t know why a simple reconnection of the loop helped, but the fact remains. after this operation, the button began to process my fingerprints normally.

Although I have one idea why this could happen. lately my iPhone has dropped several times (and quite hard). I already thought that it would come to replacing the screen, but in the end well, everything worked out. And, perhaps, it was these falls that caused all the malfunctions that were described just above.

The table clearly shows that, with the exception of the screen, dimensions and battery capacity, the characteristics of the iPhone 6s and iPhone SE are identical. But there is no option with 128 GB of internal memory, which, of course, is a minus (especially considering the possibility of shooting in 4K). In turn, the dimensions and screen make the new product akin to the iPhone 5s, but all other parameters have become much more advanced. Even the battery capacity has increased, although the body is the same.

When it comes to comparison with the Android rival, things are not so simple here. In almost all specifications, Apple devices lag behind, but as we have repeatedly seen, this may not be directly reflected in actual performance and other user qualities. So let’s proceed directly to testing.

Performance and heating

The iPhone SE runs on the same Apple A9 SoC as the iPhone 6s. This means that there is also an Apple M9 coprocessor, which provides support for the voice unlock function (with the command “Hey Siri!”).

It is important that the CPU frequency of the iPhone SE is not reduced. We described the SoC details in the article about the iPhone 6s, so we will not repeat ourselves and go straight to testing. In addition to the main hero of testing, we included the iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone 5s in the table, since our main tasks are to understand if there are any differences in performance of the iPhone SE in comparison with other smartphones on Apple A9, as well as how much faster the new product is than iPhone 5s. As for the comparison with Android competitors, then, as we found out earlier, Apple A9 is still the leader, so there is simply no point in such a comparison in the case of the iPhone SE.

Let’s start with browser benchmarks: SunSpider 1.0.2, Octane Benchmark, Kraken Benchmark, and JetStream. We used the Safari browser everywhere.

Apple iPhone SE (Apple A9) Apple iPhone 6s Plus (Apple A9) Apple iPhone 5s (Apple A7)
SunSpider 1.0.2 (less is better) 233 ms 217 ms 419 ms
Octane 2.0 (bigger is better) 16408 points 16009 points 3584 points
Kraken Benchmark 1.1 (less is better) 1692 ms 1707 ms 5968 ms
JetStream (bigger is better) 119 points 115 points

The result is predictable: we see an approximate parity of the iPhone SE and iPhone 6s Plus, as well as a huge advantage (three to four times) over the iPhone 5s. We emphasize that different versions of operating systems and browsers could give some error, so the slight difference between the two smartphones on Apple A9 should not bother.

Now let’s see how the iPhone SE performs in Geekbench 3 and AnTuTu 6. multi-platform benchmarks. Alas, we do not have results for the iPhone 5s, because at the time when we had it for testing, AnTuTu did not support iOS at all, and Geekbench was available in the previous version. Therefore, you will have to be content with the results of the latest smartphones.

Apple iPhone SE (Apple A9) Apple iPhone 6s Plus (Apple A9)
AnTuTu 6 (more is better) 127449 points 132141 points
Geekbench 3 Single-Core Score (more is better) 2552 points 2505 points
Geekbench 3 Multi-Core Score (more is better) 4444 points 4396 points

Here is a stranger result: the slight, but still present, superiority of the iPhone SE over the iPhone 6s Plus in Geekbench, as well as, on the contrary, the lag in AnTuTu attracts attention.

The last group of benchmarks is dedicated to GPU performance testing. We used 3DMark, GFXBench Metal (in the case of iPhone 5s, the results are from a simple GFXBench) and Basemark Metal.

Recall that Offscreen tests are displaying a 1080p picture regardless of the actual screen resolution. And Onscreen tests are displaying an image in the resolution that matches the device’s screen resolution. That is, the Offscreen tests are indicative of the abstract performance of the SoC, and the Onscreen tests are indicative of the comfort of the game on a specific device.

As we can see, even the most resource-intensive 3D scenes do not cause any problems for the iPhone SE. Here, of course, it’s not only the SoC, but also the low screen resolution. Hence the difference with the iPhone 6s Plus in Onscreen modes. Curiously, in Offscreen mode, the larger model is slightly superior to the compact beginner. But the user doesn’t care about that. The main thing for him is that any games on the iPhone SE will just fly.

Next test: 3DMark. Here we are interested in the subtests Sling Shot Extreme and Ice Storm Unlimited.

The significant superiority of the iPhone 6s Plus over the iPhone SE in the most severe Sling Shot Extreme test looks rather strange. It would be logical to assume that the GPU of a cheaper iPhone runs at a reduced frequency. And this looks like a completely logical decision, since at a significantly lower screen resolution, the load on the GPU becomes lower.

And here is a similar picture, which reinforces our assumption made above. But despite the small loss of the iPhone 6s in points, the iPhone SE showed significantly higher frames per second during the test. from 38 to 45, while the iPhone 6s Plus barely jumped over the border of 30 fps. Therefore, even a game of this level will not be a problem for the iPhone SE.

One more thing to note: during testing in Basemark Metal, the iPhone SE got very hot. Below is a thermal image of the rear surface taken after two consecutive runs (approximately 10 minutes of operation) of the Basemark Metal test:

iPhone Se 2: Fix Touch ID not Working on iPhone| iPhone Touch ID Problem Solved

It can be seen that the heating is localized in the upper right part of the device, which, apparently, corresponds to the location of the SoC microcircuit. According to the heat chamber, the maximum heating was 44 degrees (at an ambient temperature of 24 degrees), this is already very noticeable.

The iPhone 6s Plus has significantly less heating in the same test (more precisely, it is localized in one place, so the smartphone can be comfortably held in your hands). Therefore, although the performance of the iPhone SE is more than enough for any games, and will be enough for another two years, playing really resource-intensive applications may not be entirely comfortable due to the high heat.

Detailed review and testing of Apple iPhone SE

Screen

The screen parameters of the iPhone SE do not differ from those of the iPhone 5s: 4-inch diagonal, IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1136 × 640. By modern standards, it is very small: both the diagonal and the resolution (it is difficult to find less than 720p even in the mid-budget segment).

It is also important that the screen of the iPhone SE does not support 3D Touch technology.

However, the technical characteristics and the presence or absence of additional technologies are just the tip of the iceberg. Alexey Kudryavtsev, editor of the “Projectors and TV” section, conducted a comprehensive examination of the iPhone SE screen quality.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are better than that of the Google Nexus 7 (2013) (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the turned off screens (on the left. Nexus 7, on the right. Apple iPhone SE, then they can be distinguished by their size):

READ  How to set an iPhone ringtone

The screen of the Apple iPhone SE is slightly darker (brightness in photographs is 104 versus 110 for the Nexus 7). The doubling of reflected objects in the Apple iPhone SE screen is very weak, which indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen (more specifically, between the outer glass and the surface of the LCD matrix) (OGS type screen. One Glass Solution). Due to the smaller number of boundaries (such as glass / air) with very different refractive indices, such screens look better in conditions of strong external illumination, but their repair in case of cracked outer glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be changed. On the outer surface of the screen there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating (effective, but still not better than the Nexus 7), so fingerprints are much easier to remove, and appear at a slower rate than in the case of regular glass.

With manual brightness control and with the display of the white field on the whole screen, the maximum brightness value was about 610 cd / m², the minimum. 6 cd / m². The maximum brightness is very high and, given the excellent anti-glare properties, readability even on a sunny day outdoors will be ensured. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable value. In the presence of automatic brightness control by the light sensor (located to the left of the front speaker). In automatic mode, when the ambient light conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases. The operation of this function depends on the position of the brightness adjustment slider. the user can try to set the desired brightness level for the current conditions, but we cannot predict what brightness will be in other conditions and just when changing and returning the ambient light level. If nothing is touched, then in complete darkness, the automatic brightness adjustment function reduces the brightness to 6 cd / m2 (too dark), in an office illuminated with artificial light (about 400 lux), the brightness rises to 100-140 cd / m2 (normal), in in very bright environments (equivalent to bright outdoor lighting but no direct sunlight. 20,000 lux or slightly more) is set to 500 cd / m² (this is sufficient). We were more satisfied with the variant obtained after several attempts to correct the brightness in various conditions, while for the three conditions indicated above, we got 8, 115 and 600 cd / m². It turns out that the auto-brightness function works more or less adequately, and there is some opportunity to adjust the nature of the brightness change to the user’s requirements, although there are not obvious features in its work. At any brightness level, there is no significant backlight modulation, therefore there is no screen flickering (or rather, at the minimum brightness there are very narrow peaks with a frequency of 50 Hz, but the flicker was still not noticed even with great effort).

This smartphone uses an IPS-type matrix. The micrographs show the typical IPS subpixel structure:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of photomicrographs of screens used in mobile technology.

The screen has good viewing angles without significant color shift, even with large gaze deviations from the perpendicular to the screen and without tint inversion. For comparison, we present photographs in which the screens of the Apple iPhone SE and Nexus 7 display the same images, while the brightness of the screens was initially set to about 200 cd / m2 (along the white field in full screen, on the Apple iPhone SE this corresponds to 60% brightness at using third-party programs), and the color balance on the camera is forcibly switched to 6500 K. Perpendicular to the screens, a white field:

Note the good uniformity of brightness and color tone of the white field. And the test picture:

Color balance differs slightly, color saturation is normal. Now at an angle of about 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:

It can be seen that the colors did not change much on both screens and the contrast remained at a high level. And a white box:

The brightness at an angle at the screens decreased (at least 5 times, based on the difference in exposure), but in the case of the Apple iPhone SE, the drop in brightness is slightly less. The black field, when deviated along the diagonal, is lightened weakly and acquires a light red-violet tint. The photos below demonstrate this (the brightness of the white areas in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the screens is about the same!):

When viewed from a perpendicular view, the uniformity of the black field is good:

Contrast (approximately in the center of the screen) is normal. about 760: 1. Black-white-black response time is 20ms (11ms on 9ms off). The transition between gray tones of 25% and 75% (based on the numerical value of the color) and back takes 25 ms in total. The gamma curve, plotted using 32 points at equal intervals in terms of the numerical value of the shade of gray, showed no blockage in either the highlights or the shadows. The exponent of the approximating power function is 1.93, which is below the standard value of 2.2, so the image is slightly lightened. In this case, the real gamma curve deviates little from the power-law dependence:

Apparently, the matrix filters mix the components to each other to a moderate extent. The spectra confirm this:

As a result, the colors visually have a natural saturation. The grayscale balance is good, as the color temperature is slightly above the standard 6500 K, and the deviation from Spectra of absolute black body (ΔE) is less than 10, which is considered an acceptable indicator for a consumer device. At the same time, the color temperature and ΔE vary little from shade to shade. this has a positive effect on the visual assessment of the color balance. (The darkest areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance there is not very important, and the error in measuring color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

Like the Apple iPad Pro with a 9.7-inch display, the iPhone SE has a Night Shift function that makes the picture warmer at night (how much warmer. the user indicates). The graphs above show the values obtained with the middle position of the slider for the Color temperature parameter (by the way, correctly. “color temperature”), with a shift all the way to Warmer and Colder (the graphs are signed in the appropriate way). Yes, the color temperature drops, which is what is required. For a description of why such a correction might be useful, see the referenced iPad Pro 9.7 article. In any case, when having fun with a mobile device at night, it is better to lower the screen brightness to a minimum, but still comfortable level, and only then, to calm your own paranoia, turn the screen yellow by setting the Night Shift.

Let’s summarize. The screen has a very high maximum brightness and has excellent anti-reflective properties, so the device can be used outdoors without any problems, even on a sunny summer day. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable level. It is also permissible to use the mode with automatic brightness adjustment, which works more or less adequately. The advantages of the screen include an effective oleophobic coating, no air gap in the layers of the screen and no flicker, high stability of black to deviation from perpendicular to the plane of the screen, good uniformity of the black field, as well as sRGB color gamut and good color balance. There are no significant shortcomings. This is probably the best display among small screen smartphones at the moment.

Packaging and equipment

The packaging of the iPhone SE is much closer to the iPhone 6s than to the iPhone 5s. This is evidenced by both the general light color scheme and the picture on the smartphone screen.

The complete set of Apple smartphones has not contained any surprises for a long time. The novelty is no exception. Here are the EarPods in a nice box, flyers, a charger (5V 1A), a Lightning cable, stickers and a key to eject the SIM cradle.

Like many of Apple’s announcements over the past few years, the announcement of the iPhone SE has become both expected and unexpected. Expected. in terms of the general idea: everyone was ready for Apple to release a cheaper smartphone with a small display diagonal. The surprise was that the body of the novelty turned out to be exactly identical to the iPhone 5s, and the hardware characteristics, on the contrary, were inherited from the iPhone 6s, the current flagship of Apple.

Why Touch ID Doesn’t Work After Repair

Touch ID has become one of the major innovations in the iPhone 5s and, along with the 64-bit processor architecture, has set the trend for manufacturers around the world. Since then, there have been three generations of iPhones with a fingerprint sensor. Naturally, many of them managed to go through fire and water, as well as repairs in unofficial service centers. Explain why the fingerprint scanner may stop working after iPhone repair.

First you need to figure out how Touch ID works and why repairing it is an almost hopeless task.

iPhone Touch ID Not Working! [5 FIXES!]

The Home button on the new iPhones is a high-tech sandwich. It is protected from mechanical damage by a scratch-resistant sapphire glass. It is surrounded by a special metal ring that responds to touch and triggers a CMOS sensor located under the glass, which acts as a lens. Scans a unique design on the ball of the finger at a resolution of 500 pixels per inch.

Next, a 64-bit processor comes into play, which compares the scan with those mathematical images of fingerprints that are stored in the Secure Enclave designated for this. This is a special coprocessor integrated into Apple A7 and subsequent generations of systems-on-a-chip. When manufactured, it receives its own identifier (UID), which is not available to any system component and even Apple itself. the processor does not read fingerprints, but simply transmits packets of information to an encrypted memory area that uses the Secure Enclave. The Touch ID sensor communicates with the processor via the serial peripheral interface bus. it is its damage that disables the biometric sensor.

Simply put, partial damage to the loop between Touch ID and the phone board prevents the iPhone from authenticating the fingerprint, after which the smartphone deactivates the biometric sensor. In this case, it is not possible to replace individual components to restore functionality, since the identifiers will not match between the third-party sensor and the Secure Enclave. It is also impossible to completely restore the damaged train. it consists of ten multi-layer tracks, each of which does not exceed a tenth of a millimeter thick. But the mechanical elements of the Home button, which are responsible for registering pressing, are quite possible to replace. But from now on, you will have to unlock the device exclusively with a password. It is easy to find a broken Touch ID in the settings. the menu for adding new fingerprints will be displayed in gray.

The only way to get a working fingerprint sensor is to use the “donor organs” of another smartphone. We’ll have to install a new motherboard and replace the Home button. However, the cost of such an operation is comparable to buying a new iPhone, which will need to be gutted.

Since the release of iOS 9, many iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who have gone through the Home button repair have suffered from Error 53. It signals that the fingerprint module has not passed the security check and the smartphone has become a “brick”. The error appeared during the update, and there was simply no solution. only the return of the original components to the device. In iOS 9.2.1, Apple brought back the ability to update devices. However, this support forum thread has received over 200,000 views, indicating the magnitude of the problem.
