No signal detected on monitor when turned on

If the image does not appear when you turn on the computer, then look for the problem further.

Black screen, fan is noisy, indicators are on.

  • Reset settings in one of the following ways:
  • press the Clear / Reset button (sometimes next to the power button or on the motherboard) for 5 seconds;
  • remove the CMOS battery from under the latch on the motherboard and put it back in a few minutes.
  • Replace battery (CR2032).

After any of these manipulations, turn on the computer to check if there is a signal on the monitor.

Possible problem areas:

  • Cable.
  • Monitor.
  • Drivers and settings.
  • Video card.
  • BIOS.
  • RAM.
  • Power Supply.
  • HDD.
  • CPU.
  • Motherboard.

RAM

  • clean modules according to the principle of checking with a video card;
  • experiment with slots. bet in different ones;
  • if there are two or more planks, then “throw up” one at a time and check.

Monitor

Screen is black or partial / blurry / flickering.

  • Check the performance of the monitor:
  • connect to another system unit or laptop (it will work. it means that the problem is not in it);
  • connect another monitor or TV to the computer (there is an image. the problem is in the first screen).
  • If the monitor is defective, then:
  • choose a service center using a warranty card or on the Internet;
  • hand over for repair under warranty or without. depending on the period of operation.

CPU

When you try to turn on the computer, a squeak is heard with a certain frequency, the monitor screen is black.

It is difficult to find a suitable processor for testing, so it is better to send it to a service center for diagnostics.

HDD

Black screen with messages like “Disk boot failure” or “No bootable device”. The system will prompt you to insert a disc and press a specific button.

  • Check performance by replacing with another disk.
  • Recover (if the disk type is HDD):
  • download on another device or find a bootable USB flash drive with Victoria software;
  • enter the BIOS of a computer with a faulty disk;
  • run Victoria software and try to reanimate the disk.

If you cannot recover, then you need to replace the disk.

Cable

The display shows “Check video cable” or “No signal detected”. If you press the Num Lock button on the keyboard, then its indicator will light up.

This shows that the system has started, but there is no signal on the monitor and says No signal detected.

  • Check the condition of the cable from the system unit to the screen:
  • inspect the cable. if there is damage, then replace it;
  • disconnect and reconnect;
  • connect through an adapter / converter or through another connector;
  • check the “legs” in the cable connectors;
  • tighten the screws on the connectors to the end;
  • connect another cable.
  • Check video source:
  • go to the menu on the monitor panel (Input or Source);
  • select the desired port;
  • check the graphics settings (may be incompatible with the parameters set by the OS).

No signal detected on monitor when turned on

Sooner or later, every user will face such a problem. As much as I would like it.

When, instead of the usual Windows boot process, you see No signal detected on the monitor when you turn it on, although the system unit is noisy, the coolers are spinning, you might think that the computer has turned on, but the monitor does not show an image, but this is not the case. The computer did not turn on, and only the coolers were spinning. You can verify this by the indicators on the system unit. Usually there are 2 indicators on the system unit, one displays power, and the other displays processor activity. That is, if the computer was working, the second indicator would blink chaotically.

What does no signal detected mean

Translated into Russian, the phrase sounds like “No signal”. In simple words, the video card does not transmit a video signal to the monitor and therefore the monitor goes into sleep mode.

It may seem that the video card is to blame for this, but this is not always the case. Most often, the culprit can be RAM or the motherboard.

How to fix no signal detected on the monitor

Where to start is by checking the cable that goes from the system unit to the monitor. Check if the cable is well fixed, pull it out and insert it again and fix it well, maybe the cable just came off a little. The cable in the connector should fit snugly and not loose. If you have an integrated and discrete video card, then the monitor must be connected to an external video card, which is located below the built-in video card.

We fixed the cable well and try to turn it on. If everything is the same, there is no signal, then move on.

The culprit may still be the RAM. We pull out all the strips of the RAM from the motherboard and wipe the contacts with an eraser.

How we wiped the contacts on both sides, insert one bar at a time and try to turn on the computer each time.

The same can be done with an external video card. We take it out and rub the contacts with an eraser. If the motherboard has a monitor connector, then you should try to connect the monitor to it, but before turning on the computer, you should remove the external video card.

It will not be superfluous to reset the BIOS settings. To do this, you need to remove the battery on the motherboard for 5 minutes. After that, insert the battery into place and try to turn on the computer.

Check the power connectors on the motherboard, pull them out, see if there are any signs of burning, darkening and reinsert.

Another option is to disconnect everything from the motherboard. Hard drives, drives, network cards, if any, keyboard, mouse and other peripherals that have been connected. Connect only the monitor to the integrated video card and try to turn it on. If the motherboard is alive, then sound signals should follow, by which we determine what it is swearing at.

If after all the above steps the problem has not been resolved, then most likely the motherboard is out of order and nothing can be done, if only to carry it to the service, but repairing the motherboard will cost you like buying a modern motherboard.

How can you try to fix?

First of all, check the correctness and reliability of the cable connection from the system unit to the monitor.

Pc is on but no monitor signal fix!

It should fit snugly at both ends. Also, if there are built-in and discrete video cards in the computer, the cable from the monitor must be connected exactly to the connector of the discrete video card, which is always below the video output of the built-in video card.

If everything is fine with the cable connection, then you should try to pull out all the RAM modules, wipe the contacts on them with an eraser and try to insert one at a time, each time trying to turn on the PC.

One of the possible reasons is poor contact of RAM

Then we do the same with the video card. We take it out of the connector and wipe the contact track with an eraser.

If the motherboard has an integrated video card connector, then we try to connect the monitor connector to it and turn on the PC. In this case, the discrete video card must be removed from the connector.

It is also worth trying to reset the BIOS by removing the battery from the motherboard for 5 minutes.

Check the main and auxiliary power connectors on the motherboard for darkening or burning.

If none of the above helped, then with a probability of 99% we can say that the motherboard is out of order and needs to be replaced.

If, when you turn on the computer, the monitor displays “No Signal”, “Check Video Cable” or something like that instead of loading the operating system, this does not bode well. We’ll have to figure out what degree of error is critical or insignificant. Below are the main ways to identify a breakdown and solve the problem.

What does “No signal detected” mean??

If you translate this phrase into Russian, then its meaning becomes clear. “No signal”. Simply put, the video card does not supply the incoming video signal to the monitor and because of this, it goes into standby mode.

But the video card itself is not always the culprit for all this, as it might seem at first glance. Much more often this happens due to RAM or motherboard.

Checking the main components

If all else fails, the situation becomes already unpleasant. one of the main elements of the PC may well be the cause of the problem. Although, if there is no signal via VGA, HDMI or DVI, but the computer continues to work and you can hear how it loads the operating system. one of the steps above was simply skipped.

Major components cannot be checked for errors without specialized hardware. However, you can try to connect the processor to another motherboard compatible with it. If it works without problems, you can try to connect another power supply.

As for the motherboard itself, it already needs to be diagnosed in detail. It should be understood that restoring a motherboard can be an expensive pleasure and often buying a new one turns out to be more profitable. One more point. it is not always possible to fix the board, and even in the case of a successful repair, there is no guarantee that it will work without problems in the future.

Innovative technologies are developing at an incredible speed today. But new developments also give rise to unfamiliar problems associated, as a rule, with the settings of technology. Questions usually arise from beginners or those who, in principle, rarely use a computer. A common problem is the “No Signal” message on the monitor. To fix the situation, it is important to understand the reason. You can do this yourself.

General recommendations

You should not immediately look for the phone of a programmer or a computer repair technician if the message No signal detected appears on the monitor. What to do in this case? The first step is to recall all the recent actions that were performed with the computer. Perhaps, while cleaning, someone accidentally hooked on the cable, the PC was disassembled or moved. Children or curious pets can also cause breakdown. Therefore, the first recommendation is to check all wires. The problem will be solved very quickly when the cable falls into place.

It is also often recommended to simply restart the computer. The PC may not start correctly, do not forget about the sleep mode. about the latter case. below. It is possible that the problem in which the computer monitor does not turn on can be eliminated with literally one click of a button.

Checking the status of the video cable

This method is used when there is no video signal on the monitor, but the computer itself is running. Therefore, you must first make sure that the video cable is connected correctly. Most often, when contacts go away and a corresponding message appears.

This is especially true in the case when the computer was assembled on its own. then you should make sure that all system components are connected correctly.

The next step, if everything is connected correctly, will be pressing the NumLock (CapsLock) button several times.

If the buttons flash after pressing, the problem lies precisely with the wire or the monitor. You can check this by connecting the computer with a different cable. If it is not at hand, you can try to connect to a TV or other monitor.

It may sound trite, but if there is no signal through the VGA connector, you should secure the output with two screws. The reason is so simple that not everyone will pay attention to it.

Also, it will not be superfluous to check if the correct signal source is selected. Ideally, of course, this should be done first.

For advanced users

The computer turns on but shows No signal detected on the monitor? What if none of the previous methods helped? Those who are confident in their abilities and are not afraid to disassemble the very heart of the computer can take care of the motherboard on their own.

Most likely, the problem lies in the hardware, but first you can try to reset the BIOS. There are two options:

  • Find instructions for the motherboard (or open it on the Internet from another device) and return the original settings by connecting certain contacts.
  • Remove the battery from the motherboard for 10 minutes, then put the part back in and restart the computer.

When working, it is important to remember about safety, do everything carefully so as not to damage the parts, and before taking any action, be sure to disconnect the computer from the network.

Sometimes everything becomes clear already when you open the lid of the system unit. The cause of the problem may be swollen capacitors. As a rule, in half of the cases, the computer monitor does not turn on for this reason. But even experienced users shouldn’t solder the parts themselves. It is better to entrust the repair to the specialists of the service center.

Battery Manipulation CMOS

The CMOS battery is used as a small power supply on the motherboard. Therefore, it saves parameters. date and time, download properties, video signal arrival order and much more.

There are times when this element is discharged and does not charge, and the computer does not start because of this. Therefore, it will not be superfluous to remove it and try to turn on the computer. If it starts, the battery needs to be replaced and then restored to BIOS settings.

No malfunction

Messages may differ on different monitor models. The following labels indicate the same problem:

  • check the signal cable on Russian-speaking systems;
  • going to sleep;
  • signal out of range;
  • check cable connection;
  • no signal detected (on the Benq monitor, such a sign appears most often);
  • cable disconnected and others.

Modern monitors have an automatic sleep mode to save energy. In this case, the signal may be lost, which is why these and similar inscriptions are displayed. If the computer still has not entered sleep mode, look elsewhere for a solution.

Also, any of these messages can appear when the computer is turned off and the monitor is working. As a rule, restarting the system helps.

Self-help troubleshooting

It often happens that the PC itself is in working order, but there is no image, and the No signal detected message is displayed on the monitor. What to do in this case, why does the message appear, and what options are there to fix the problem? The reasons can be different: from the easiest and fixable on their own to complex ones, when you cannot do without the help of specialists.

You can try to fix the problem by taking the following steps:

  • The computer and the screen turn on, work normally, but after a while the message “No Signal” appears? Most likely, the PC just went into sleep mode, and in order to “wake it up”, you need to click the mouse or press the space bar. Sleep mode settings can be changed in Control Panel (Power Options icon).
  • If there is no reaction to the previous actions, you should try to restart the monitor mechanically. by pressing the “Restart” button or twice on “Shutdown”.
  • In the event that the message is still displayed, you need to restart the computer with a long press on “On / Off.” or using the emergency restart button on the system unit.
  • If you receive a message about no signal while starting a game or program, or after the computer is idle, the problem may be that the monitor does not support the resolution of the screensaver or game.

After a successful restart, you must immediately configure power management, check the compatibility of games and programs with the capabilities of your computer, and set the resolution to the value recommended by the system. In Windows 10, the above settings can be found under Settings. System. Display and Power & Sleep tabs. For Windows 7, the path is as follows: Start menu. “Control Panel”. “Power Schemes”. The changes must be saved and then rebooted again.

The monitor writes no signal and goes out

Innovative technologies are developing at an incredible speed today. But new developments also give rise to unfamiliar problems associated, as a rule, with the settings of technology. Questions usually arise from beginners or those who, in principle, rarely use a computer. A common problem is the “No Signal” message on the monitor. Other options

If the monitor says No signal detected and does not show the operating system is loading, you need to check all the screen connections to the system unit and the video card. The plug may have lost contact with the connector. Then it is not difficult to fix the breakdown: you need to insert the plug into the desired position and then restart the computer. If it was not possible to achieve a positive result, then you should further look for the reasons why No signal detected is lit on the monitor. What to do and how to diagnose the cause yourself?

  • Connecting the faulty monitor to another system unit or laptop. Does the image appear? This means that the screen is working properly, and the reasons for the message “No signal” should be looked deeper. If the picture is still missing, the monitor can be safely carried to the service center.
  • When you connect to another device, the image appears, but nothing works with the “native” system unit? Perhaps the problem is with the video card or with the motherboard. The video card has two connectors: DVI and VGA. You can try swapping the cables in the connectors and turn on the computer. If the monitor still shows No signal, then you will have to open the case of the system unit.
  • The system unit latches, as a rule, are located on the side cover, you need to carefully open them and remove the side wall. Next, you should check if the video card is securely fixed. You can remove it and clean the connectors with a regular stationery eraser. After the video card is put in place and a test run of the computer is done.
  • In the event that efforts have not brought a positive result, it is better to contact specialists. Replacement of motherboard, monitor or video card may be required.

Speaker signal diagnostics

You can try to fix the breakage with a speaker. this is a small device that is connected to the motherboard. The speaker beeps to warn of problems with the computer. The list of sound signals and their decoding differs depending on the computer model: the complete list can be found in the instructions for the motherboard.

  • Specify the BIOS version of the motherboard in the instructions, as well as familiarize yourself with the list of sound signals from the speaker.
  • Disconnect all parts from the motherboard, leaving only the processor, power supply and indicator buttons.
  • After that, the computer should be turned off and listen to the speaker signals. Sound signals are decoded according to the list.
  • If the beep is different from what is listed, faulty RAM connectors may be a potential problem. Also, the reason may be hidden in the memory controller or system bus.
  • Next, RAM is connected to the board. The computer is turned on again and the signals from the speaker are checked. It should signal that the video card is not connected or missing. If the speaker indicates a malfunction with the RAM, then it needs to be checked.
  • Then you need to check the connection of the video card. If the speaker signals its absence, it is necessary to check all the card connectors, they could be shorted or oxidized. You can clean the inputs with an eraser. If there are traces of a short circuit, contact a specialist. It is also necessary to check whether the elements of the video card have burned out: the radio elements, if desired, can be replaced independently, but if the microchip is out of order, then you will have to buy a new video card.
  • If the speaker signals about problems with the south bridge, then the help of professionals is needed. This problem cannot be dealt with at home.

Any diagnostic method requires attention and accuracy in work. Do not neglect safety precautions, and in case of serious or incomprehensible breakdowns, it is better not to repair the computer yourself, but to seek help from specialists.

Today, innovative technologies are developing at a frantic pace. New developments lead to the emergence of new problems, which, as a rule, are associated with equipment settings. After that, it will be necessary to disconnect all components from the motherboard, except for the processor, power supply and indicator button. Then you need to turn off the computer and listen to the speaker’s signals. To decode audio signals, you must use the list. If the sound signal differs from those presented in the list, then the problem may lie in faulty RAM connectors. Also, the reason may lie in the system bus or memory controller. After that, you need to connect the RAM to the board. The computer is turned on again and the speaker’s signals are checked. The speaker should signal that the video card is missing or not connected. If the speaker indicates a malfunction related to the RAM, you will need to check it. After that, you need to check the connection of the video card. If the speaker emits a signal about the absence of a video card, then you will need to check its connectors, They could oxidize or short-circuit. You can also try cleaning the inputs with an eraser. If there are traces of a short circuit, it is better to entrust the repair of the device to specialists.

Probably, every user at least once in his life saw on the monitor screen the discouraging message “No signal”, “No video signal”, “No signal”, “Check cable” or something similar. Fortunately, this does not always indicate a computer malfunction. In this article, we will list the possible reasons for the lack of a video card signal and ways to solve the problem of displaying images on the monitor.

When the computer is turned on, the monitor “No signal detected”

This problem will sooner or later be expected on almost any computer and laptop. It’s just a question of time.

When you turn on your device, the phrase “No signal detected” appears on the screen instead of the usual image of the initial splash screen and the Windows boot logo. Then the monitor goes into standby mode, although the system unit seems to be working. In fact, this is not the case at all. The fans simply rotate in it, since they are supplied with voltage by the power supply.

In this article we will tell you what “No signal detected” means on the monitor when you turn on the computer, why it happens and how you can try to solve this problem yourself at home.

How can you try to fix?

First of all, check the correctness and reliability of the cable connection from the system unit to the monitor.

It should fit snugly at both ends. Also, if there are built-in and discrete video cards in the computer, the cable from the monitor must be connected exactly to the connector of the discrete video card, which is always below the video output of the built-in video card.

External (discrete) video card of the system unit

If everything is fine with the cable connection, then you should try to pull out all the RAM modules, wipe the contacts on them with an eraser and try to insert one at a time, each time trying to turn on the PC.

One of the possible reasons is poor contact of RAM

Then we do the same with the video card. We take it out of the connector and wipe the contact track with an eraser.

The presence of a monitor connector on the back of the computer is a guarantor of the presence of a built-in video card on the motherboard

CPU

When you try to turn on the computer, a squeak is heard with a certain frequency, the monitor screen is black.

It is difficult to find a suitable processor for testing, so it is better to send it to a service center for diagnostics.

No signal detected there is no signal on the monitor when the computer is turned on

Hello everyone. No signal detected there is no signal on the monitor when the computer is turned on.

When the computer is turned on, the system unit starts up first. At the start, every element of the system is checked, which we call a computer.

One of the components of a PC is a monitor. If there are no problems with initialization, then the display shows the OC boot process.

When the screen is black or only the inscriptions are displayed, then there is no signal from the system unit on the screen.

Cable

The display shows “Check video cable” or “No signal detected”. If you press the Num Lock button on the keyboard, then its indicator will light up.

This shows that the system has started, but there is no signal on the monitor and says No signal detected.

  • Check the condition of the cable from the system unit to the screen:
  • inspect the cable. if there is damage, then replace it;
  • disconnect and reconnect;
