Using OBS for Desktop Recording and Games
After launching Open Broadcaster Software, you will see a simple blank screen asking you to start broadcasting, start recording or start previewing. At the same time, if you immediately do something of the above, then only a blank screen will be broadcast or recorded (however, by default, with sound. both from a microphone and sound from a computer).
In order to record from any source, including from the Windows desktop, you need to add this source by right-clicking in the appropriate list at the bottom of the program window.
After adding “Desktop” as source, you can customize the delight of the mouse, choose one of the monitors if there are several. If you select “Game”, then it will be possible to select a specific running program (not necessarily a game), the window of which will be recorded.
After that, just click “Start recording”. in this case, it will record from the desktop with sound to the folder “” on a computer in.flv format. You can also run a preview to make sure the capture is working properly.
If you need to configure the parameters in more detail, go to the settings. Here you can change the following main options (some of them may not be available, depending, among other things, on the hardware used on the computer, in particular, the card):
- Encoding. setting codecs for and sound.
- Broadcast. Set up live streaming and audio to various online services. If you only need to record on a computer, you can set the “Local recording” mode. Also after that you can change the save folder and change the format from flv to mp4, which is also supported.
- and audio. setting the corresponding parameters. In particular, the default resolution, the card used, FPS when recording, sources for recording sound.
- Hotkeys. configure hotkeys to start and stop recording and broadcasts, enable and disable sound recording, etc.
Desktop recording in Open Broadcaster Software (OBS)
I have written more than once about various programs for recording with sound from the desktop and from games in Windows, including such paid and powerful programs as Bandicam and free simple and effective solutions like NVidia ShadowPlay. In this review, we’ll talk about another such program. OBS or Open Broadcaster Software, with which you can relatively easily record with sound from different sources on your computer, as well as broadcast your desktop and games to popular services such as YouTube or Twitch.
Despite the fact that the program is free (it is open source software), it provides really extensive opportunities for recording and audio from a computer, is efficient and, which is important for our user, has an interface.
Attention: I recommend the instruction for the new version of the program. Screen recording in OBS Studio. The example below will demonstrate the use of OBS for recording from the desktop (i.e., creating screencasts), but the utility can just as easily be used to record the game. I hope after reading the review it will be clear exactly how to do this. I also note that OBS is currently presented in two versions. OBS Classic for Windows 7, 8 and Windows 10 and OBS Studio, which, in addition to Windows, supports OS X and Linux. The first option will be considered (the second is currently in the early stages of development and may be unstable).
Additional program features
Optionally, in addition to directly recording the screen, you can add a webcam image to the floor being recorded. just added the “Capture Device” to the list of sources and set it up in the same way as it was done for the desktop.
The setting of any of the sources can also be opened by double-clicking on it in the list. Some additional settings, such as changing location, are available through the right-click menu on the source.
You can add a watermark or floor logo in the same way. using “Image” as source.
This is not a complete list of what you can do with Open Broadcaster Software. For example, it is possible to create several scenes with different sources (for example, different monitors) and perform transitions between them during recording or broadcasting, automatically mute recording from a microphone when there is “silence” (noise gate), create recording profiles and some Advanced codec parameters.
In my opinion, this is one of the excellent options for a free program for recording from a computer screen, successfully combining ample features, performance and relative ease of use, even for a novice user.
Desktop and game recording in OBS Studio
Among programs for recording from a computer or laptop screen, both paid and free, OBS Studio is probably one of the best utilities: it is available completely free, runs on Windows, Mac OS and Linux, and for most users provides a sufficient set of capabilities for almost any screen recording and webcasting tasks.
This overview details how to use the main features of OBS Studio for recording from the desktop, from games and programs, program settings, as well as some additional information that you may find useful. If, for some reason, this program does not suit you, check out the best screen recording software.
Installing, first launching and configuring OBS Studio
You can download OBS Studio x64 and 32-bit for Windows 10, 8.1 and Windows 7, as well as for other supported OS, from the Official page https://obsproject.com/ru/download. Installation without any special nuances (a portable version of OBS Studio is also available in a ZIP archive), but: in the absence of the necessary system libraries on your computer, you will be prompted to install them by providing a download link. After installing the libraries, the OBS Studio installer will need to be run again.
After the first launch of OBS Studio, you will be prompted to launch the automatic configuration wizard depending on your tasks: for recording or for broadcasting.
During automatic setup, the preferred recording resolution, FPS, codec (hardware or software encoding) will be determined. Usually, the parameters are determined in an optimal way, but not always, for example:
- The program, after automatic tuning, often sets a lower output resolution, despite its quite productive equipment. I recommend changing it in “Settings”. “” so that the output resolution is equal to the actual resolution of the filmed material.
- If you encounter problems with recording (freezing, something else), I recommend experimenting with the settings in the “Output” section. For example, I shoot at 4K 60 FPS on NOT the most powerful, but also NOT the slowest computer, and when choosing a hardware encoder with recording, problems arise, but with a software computer, it more than copes (while I am automatically advised to choose the hardware one). Here you can also select the file format, recording or broadcast quality, save location.
- I recommend remembering the “Settings”. “Hot Keys” item. This item can come in handy when you have already dealt with screen recording: for example, right during recording, you can use the keys to switch scenes (with transitions between them), hide individual elements from the recorded or broadcast content.
- If you plan to record sound from different sources, take a look at the “Audio” section, perhaps the settings will come in handy. Important: if you have Windows 10 and the sound from the microphone is NOT recorded, go to Start. Settings. Privacy. Microphone and in the “Allow desktop applications to access the microphone” section enable access for OBS Studio.
Screen Recording Process in OBS Studio
OBS Studio records scenes (one by default, but you can create more and switch between them in the process), each of which contains the selected sources, and there can be several of them. eg:
- In the “Sources” section, click “Plus” and add “Screen Capture”, give a name to the source, apply the settings. our screen is displayed in the window (don’t be confused by the effect of the infinite mirror, when we start recording and minimize OBS Studio, the program will stop recording. yourself and this effect will NOT be).
- If desired, we can add new sources: for example, text for a logo, a picture from a webcam, recording a window of a specific program from a separate file. The source, which is located higher in the “Sources” list in the record, will be “above” the previous source, that is, overlap it. We can select each source with the mouse right in the preview window and move it or resize it.
- Different settings are available for different sources. For example, there are more of them for “Capture a game”, and for a simple “Screen capture” (for recording the desktop). less, you can only enable or disable the recording of the mouse pointer.
- As you add sources in the “Audio Mixer” section, separate audio tracks will appear, for which you can change the volume, completely turn off the source, as well as some audio effects (you can open it in the context menu of the audio source).
- If you use more than one scene while recording, you can turn on “Studio Mode” to see what happens in the scene being recorded (broadcast) at the moment and the one to which you can switch.
In the rest of the functions, I hope, as the program is used and such a need arises, any user will be able to figure it out. I recommend it and personally only use OBS Studio lately. In conclusion, I recalled one more nuance concerning this program: it successfully writes from the screen in cases where other programs only record a black window (for example, when transferring an image from Android to a computer, playback).
First of all, you need to configure the encoder. to do this, click on the “Output” item. If you are going to record dynamic (for example, gameplay), you need to configure sections “Streaming” and “Recording”, if a static picture will be recorded mainly (for example, desktop, explorer, browser, etc.), it is enough to configure only the section “Recording”.
Installing and Running OBS Studio for the First Time (Windows)
Download OBS Studio from the official site, run the installer. If you do not have Microsoft C Redistributable component installed (version 2013 at the time of this writing), the installer will offer to download and install it, and then interrupt its work. It will also warn you that even if you have a 64-bit system, you will need to install both versions: vcredist_x64 and vcredist_x86.
After installing the components, run the OBS Studio installer again and just follow its steps to complete the installation.
When you first start the application, run “Automatic configuration wizard”, here which you can refuse and follow this instruction further.
The first step is to capture an image of the desktop. In field “Scene” the scene should already be automatically created. In the “Source” field, click “” and in the context menu select the item “Screen delight”.
As you can see in the picture above, you can also superimpose the desktop image from the webcam (paragraph “Capture device”) and other, and fill, thus, the image of yours. In the window that appears, you can rename, if you want, the name of the source, then click OK.
In the next window of the source properties, you can select the screen (if you have several of them), and also disable the display of the cursor on (optional).
Click the “OK” button and the computer desktop captured by the program should appear in the preview window of the main window of the OBS Studio application.
Desktop recording in OBS Studio
OBS Studio is free software for screen recording and broadcasting. The application is primarily designed for broadcasting gameplay (passing computer games) on the Internet, but it also allows you to easily record your desktop (for example, to create lessons, etc.). This article will focus on the second possibility.
A huge advantage of the application is that it is cross-platform, i.e. it can be installed on different operating systems: Windows, Mac OS and Linux.
Setting up OBS Studio
For the purposes of this article, only the basic setup required for screen recording will be provided. To open the settings window, click the “File” menu item and select the “Settings” sub-item.
In chapter “Streaming” you can leave everything at default, except for the bit rate. If you want to record in HD (1280x720p), the bitrate should be in the range of 2500. 3500, but if you record in Full HD (1920x1080p), the bitrate should be increased to 4000. 6000 Do not forget, increasing the bitrate increases the quality. but the file size also grows.
Here you can change the save folder. It is also advisable to change the file format to “mp4” (the most popular as well as the format used on YouTube). The most important point. “Recording quality”. If you want to record dynamic scenes (for example, games), leave the item “The same as in the broadcast”, then the bitrate and other settings will be taken from the section “Streaming”. If your picture is mostly static (desktop, explorer, browser, etc.), then set the recording quality to “indistinguishable quality, large file size”. In this case, yours will be recorded at a bitrate of 1000 Kbps (
600 Mb / h). Well, if you have little space on your computer at all, you can select the item “High quality, medium file size”, then yours will be recorded with a bitrate of 4.75 out of 5 (votes: 4)
How to record from a computer screen: Windows and macOS. delight with OS, software and external devices
The ability to record a computer screen can be useful for a variety of reasons. from showing your online friends your skill in passing games to hints for your girlfriend on how to connect a new antivirus.
There are a variety of options to do things so nice and useful. We will tell you about the main.
operating system recording
Both Windows and macOS now have built-in screen recorders, although this is the easiest on a Mac. Press Shift Cmd5 to open the Toolbox, then “Screen Capture”. Select whether to record the entire screen or just a portion, click Record, the Stop button will appear in the menu bar. Screen recording can also be done using QuickTime (“File” then “New Screen Recorder”).
Windows screen recorder is focused mainly on games, although you can use it for whatever you like. Find the Xbox Game Bar app in the Start menu, launch, and click the Record button. At the end. “Stop”.
Programs to help you
In addition to software capabilities, there are many third-party programs that offer recording and editing functions. One of them is called OBS Studio, and it works on both Windows and macOS. Powerful thing, and also free and easy to use, even if you see it for the first time.
You can choose the capture area: a window or the entire screen if you are writing a game. Sound recording is also available, with the corresponding sound scheme setting installed on your machine.
The product is designed for Windows and macOS. It is a well-known program, polished and versatile. The problem is that it is paid, but if you know how to get around these pitfalls, you will have a great invader with full functionality at your disposal.
It includes the ability to add effects, music overlays, titles and annotations, and transitions. Plus options for scaling and animating screen recordings and support for interactive elements (like a quiz) in your posts. Besides screen recording, you can record webcam and other sources.
TinyTake (Windows and macOS)
The tool is not as detailed and sophisticated. It has a nice and simple interface for capturing windows or the entire screen, some useful annotation tools and built-in sharing options. About money: officially, clips up to five minutes long can be recorded for free; after that you have to pay for a subscription: from 30 per year.
Whoever has this software product may NOT think about taking over. It’s already preinstalled and built into PowerPoint, although only on the Windows version at the moment. Open the “Insert” tab, click “Screen Recorder” to record part or all of the screen.
Sometimes software options are not enough. It may be necessary to record what is on the screen before the operating system starts correctly, or, let’s say, you need to “capture” something that the Named Programs cannot for some reason. For such a serious case, you will need a special hardware device.
Their selection is as rich as the variety of software. The good news is that most of them are readily available: capture cards are designed for gamers to stream from their console to the Internet.
The best known is perhaps the brand offering a variety of capture cards that work with Windows and macOS computers and consoles. The device connects to the HDMI connector on the computer you want to capture from and to a spare USB port on the computer that you want to use for the actual capture.
You can use the same Windows or macOS computer to view and record. This is convenient if you use, say, a desktop and a laptop in tandem (especially if I’m recording resource-intensive content). The device recognizes the capture device (pictured HD60 S by ELGato) as an external display, so you need to mirror or extend your desktop as needed (display in Windows settings or macOS system settings).
To work with content, you will need your own ELGato capture application, which can be downloaded and used for free. It combines excitement and editing, allowing you to customize recording settings, mix audio outputs, add voice comments (very useful for THESE gaming sessions) and stream footage to the Internet and save it to disk.
In addition to the “native” capture software from ELGato, say the OBS Studio suite mentioned above will work effectively. As a rule, there are compatibility problems in cards: an external device produces a stream, where most applications are able to recognize.
These capture cards can work with other HDMI-equipped devices such as a TV. To do this, you need to connect the computer, through which “delight” goes, and TV, as well as 2 HDMI cables.
In addition to ELGato, the following capture card developers have proven themselves on the market: AverMedia, Razer and Hauppauge. Some cards can record directly to a memory card, without a computer, although the user loses the ability to view and control their recordings in real time.
In most cases, the simpler and more affordable recording methods will suffice, which we talked about today, including the “entry-level”: Screen recorders from Microsoft or Apple.
To start recording from the screen, press the button “Start recording”
Minimize the program and record the actions from the screen. When you finish recording, go to the folder specified for saving the recordings and see what happened.
Test the sound from an external microphone and readjust the filters if necessary. The program writes sound from the screen by default.
You can adjust the sound recording from the screen with the slider or remove it altogether by clicking on the speaker icon. After finishing work, press “Exit”. All settings are saved.
Basic OBS Settings
If you have not unchecked the finish of installation, the program will automatically start. While you will have a black screen. Now you need to configure the basic parameters first.
Go to the settings in the lower right corner.
Here, basically everything is ready to go, but some settings need to be adjusted. Go to item “Output”. At the top, you can select Simple or Advanced settings. Leave it simple for now, later, when you get a little more comfortable, you can use the advanced settings.
In simple settings, you can change the folder to save the recorded. If the C drive is low on space, choose any other drive. Adjust the recording format just below. I choose mp4. After completing the settings, click below “Apply”, but do not rush to click “Ok”, otherwise the window will close.
Next go to settings “”. Here, depending on the parameters of your PC, make the settings. I have NOT changed anything. If the PC is weak, set FPS 20. Set the base screen resolution as on your PC. Also set the output resolution or leave it as it is. Don’t forget to press “Apply”
After completing the settings, click “Ok”
Setting up external microphone sound in OBS Studio
If you have a low quality microphone on your PC, then it is certainly better to get something better. But in any case, there is an opportunity to improve the sound quality with built-in tools.
At the bottom of the panel, we find our microphone in the mixer, click on the gear icon and select “Filters”
A window with filters will open. In your case, this will be empty. I have multiple filters installed. To add similar filters, click the already familiar one below. “”, and Adds filters from the screenshot one by one.
Below I attach screenshots of the settings for each filter. After installation, click on each filter and adjust as shown in the screenshots. When testing recordings, you will already adjust for yourself.
Throughput noise level
Adding Screen Recording Sources to OBS
In theory, the scene for recording is already there by default, now you need to add sources to this scene. That is, the elements that the OBS program will record (screen, WEB-camera, etc.).
If there is a scene, add the scene clicked “” at the bottom of the window. Next, add the first source by clicking “” in the sources window.
In the context menu, select “Screen delight”
Then we can NOT change anything and click “OK”
In the last settings window, you can uncheck the box “Cursor delight”, if you do not want the cursor to be displayed on the screen. Click “OK” and finish the settings.
Add a WEB-camera in the same way, if you want to insert into a record “talking head”. You press “”, but only in the context menu select “Capture device”
A window with WEB-camera settings will appear. You can NOT touch anything and click “OK”
Then the camera window can be dragged with the mouse to the desired location on the screen, as well as resized.
Setting up OBS Studio for screen recording with audio
To download the OBS Studio program, go to the official website https://obsproject.com/ru Click the button corresponding to your system here.
After downloading, launch the installer on your computer with a mouse click. Installation is intuitive and self-explanatory, even for beginners. Accept the agreement “Agree”, then you can specify the installation path if the default installation on drive C does not suit you, after which Install the program.
How to record from screen with sound? OBS Studio software
The topic of today’s post is how to record from the screen with sound with the free OBS Studio (Open Broadcaster Software). I have already published an article with an annotation on working with a small FS Capture program, but where is it to OBS!
Even many paid programs that have a screen recording function are far from OBS Studio. Why? Rather later, that OBS is aimed specifically at recording from the screen and everything connected with it, cutting off all unnecessary.
Here is a small part of what OBS Studio can do:
- Record from the monitor screen
- Record from WEB-camera
- Insert a WEB-camera window into the recording
- Record external microphone sound
- Record sound from the screen
- Has sound quality enhancement settings
- Can close the screen by pressing a button (convenient when entering data)
- Has a built-in Chromakey (removes the background behind the speaker)
For some purposes, you need to record from the screen with sound, for others. remove the background from the WEB-camera. In other cases, it is important to combine all the listed possibilities. All this can be done in the OBS Studio screen recorder.
We will analyze the basic OBS settings, as well as download and install the program absolutely free.
- Setting up OBS Studio for screen recording with audio
- Basic OBS Settings
- Adding Screen Recording Sources to OBS
- Setting up external microphone sound in OBS Studio
- Screen recording
- If the black screen is not removed in OBS
If the black screen is not removed in OBS
If you’ve set up your screen recorder and added the scene you want, but the screen is still black, try the following:
- Exiting the program (close OBS)
- Hover the cursor over the program icon and press the right button
- From the dropdown menu select “Run with GPU”
- Next select “Integrated graphics hardware”
Option number 2
- close OBS
- Right click on the program shortcut and select “Run as administrator”
If none of the above helped, type a request on YouTube, there you can clearly see the solution.
How to record from the screen
There are many ways, including third-party apps or even online services, but few know that some devices have standard screen recording solutions.
I’m almost forgiven, than the iPhone, the screen recording function is implemented on Apple computers. Just press the Shift-Command-5 keyboard shortcut to open the standard Screenshot panel.
In it, you can select the desired item (Screenshot / Screenshot / Screenshot for screenshots and Record full screen / Record part of the screen for), in the “Options” section, set a delay timer, show or turn off the pointer or mouse clicks and determine the location save file.
Then everything is nowhere easier. it is recorded by pressing the “Record” button.
If this option seems too simple to you, then you can use the QuickTime Player, as is on every Mac computer.
After starting the program, just select the “File” menu and in it “New screen recording”. Clicking on the arrow next to the red button will allow you to set the desired sound settings, and the red button itself will start recording. you can stop it by clicking on “Stop” at the top right of the screen.
Likewise, you can record from the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch screen if you connect them to your computer with a cable.
On gadgets with the Android operating system, you will have to use third-party applications for screen recording. Among the most popular are AZ Screen Recorder, DU Recorder, Mobizen Screen Recorder, ADV Screen Recorder, REC Screen Recorder HD. There are many other programs available, so choose according to your taste.
All of the above software is capable of shooting screen. but the functionality may differ depending on the program. Somewhere there is a minimum of settings, but somewhere you can choose suitable parameters for everything and even more. Individual programs can only be recorded. while others allow you to immediately process the in a regular editor. In a word, you choose, based on your needs and the technical characteristics of your gadget.
There are exceptions like smartphones Xiaomi and Redmi, Huawei and Honor, where manufacturers offer standard solutions for recording what is happening on the screen. This is implemented for all more or less the same and is a separate settings item, the activation of which will allow you to quickly start recording from the screen in the future.
In the Apple gadget, you need to go to “Settings”, select “Control Center”, there they will be called “Configure Element.” control “and press the green” plus “next to the item” Screen recording “.
In order to activate the recording, you need to swipe up from any screen (on iPhone X and later gadgets, on iPad with iOS 12 and later. swipe from the top right of the screen). A button for screen recording will appear, where you can select the option to record without sound or with the microphone on. After clicking “Start Recording” and a 3-second countdown, creation will begin. You can stop recording by pressing a button in the “control room” or by clicking on the red status bar at the top of the screen.
The finished will be saved in the “Photo” program.
This screen recording method works on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 11 or later.
Unlike macOS, where recording from the screen is hardly intuitive, in Windows you will either have to puzzle over when looking for a regular recording tool, or download a third-party application for this.
For example, Windows 10 has a built-in Xbox Game Bar app that contains the screen recording option. There are not so many settings, but you can choose the recording quality, decide whether to record sound or not, to limit the length or not. can. Finished clips are saved in the “/ Capture” folder. The nuance is that only owners of computers whose cards support Intel Quick Sync H.260, Nvidia NVENC, AMD VCE codecs can use the Xbox Game Bar.
If you are NOT one of them, then non-standard applications will help you, of which there are a great many on the Internet. They differ in both functionality and availability, there is paid and free software.
Some of the programs that can be safely recommended for screen recording on Windows include OBS Studio, FastStone Capture, UVScreenCamera, CamStudio, iSpring Free Cam, oCam Screen Recorder, Movavi Screen Recorder Studio and, of course, Fraps for those who need to record in games. When choosing a program. pay attention to whether it is suitable for the version of the operating system that is installed on your computer.
By the way, if you use Apple gadgets, you can record from their screens even on a Windows computer if the LonelyScreen program is installed on it. Its functionality is extremely simple, but it is more than enough to create ordinarys.
How to record with OBS (Open Broadcaster Software)
Open Broadcaster Software (or OBS for short). popular cross-platform application with which thousands of streamers broadcast their broadcasts on various Internet resources around the world. However, in addition to the ability to transmit a stream for online broadcasting, the program can also make a simple recording locally, on a computer.
Create a profile
After adding the source, it will NOT be superfluous to create a separate profile for the local record.
A new profile is created in the top menu “Profile”. “Create a”.
Enter the name of the profile, for example “Recording to the computer”.
Add the desired source
In order to add a new source, you need in the column labeled “Sources” click the plus sign (located completely below, see the picture above), and select the desired type of source for recording:
Capture game: this item will capture any full screen applications, or only from the selected game. In order to select a game, you must first start it, minimize it, and only then use this item.
Window capture: only one specific window of the program will be captured, including games that run in windowed mode. Games that run in full screen mode will NOT be displayed here!
Screen Capture: Everything that happens on the screen will be captured, including the desktop and all other programs.
After selecting the desired source type, you will need to assign a name to it, and then, depending on the selected type, set up the delight itself. This setup is very simple. just select a window, game or program in the drop-down menu, and click the “OK” button.
Where to download Open Broadcaster Software (OBS, OBS)?
You can download the program for the operating system you need from the official website: https://obsproject.com/
Recording in the program is quite simple, you need to first add the desired source for capture, and then click “Start recording”.
Then you need to open the profile settings (“File”. “Settings”).
Open the tab “Output”, and customize it to fit your needs:
bitrate: since the recording goes locally to the computer, you don’t have to save and sets the values to 10000.
Encoder: If your computer is equipped with an Nvidia card model GTX 660 and above, then you should have access to the NVENC encoder, which you should select. On AMD cards, the H264 / AVC (AMD Advanced Media Framework) encoder performs the same tasks as NVENC. Owners of the latest Intel processors can benefit from the on-chip card services by selecting the QSV encoder. And finally, the most resource-intensive option for the processor. x264 encoder.
Audio Bitrate: 160 is actually quite enough for recording normal game sounds and voices. However, nothing prevents you from setting higher values, 192, 256 or 320.
Recording path: Folder where all recordings will be saved
Recording format: flv is the default, which has a definite plus over other formats. in case of an unexpected termination of the OBS program or the computer (with BSOD’e, an abrupt shutdown of the computer or Pour programs), the file will retain the ability to play. Other recording formats do not have this capability.
Next, open the tab “”.
Output resolution: the resolution in which the same will be written. DO NOT slurry from the resolution of the game / monitor from which it is recording. For weak computers, it may be relevant to set the resolution lower than it actually is, for example, instead of 1920х1080, it will set 1270х720.
General FPS values: frames per second in. Owners of powerful computers can put at least 60, but owners of weak machines It is better not to raise the number of frames above 30.
Configuring Hot Keys
Now it remains to configure the Hotkeys to start recording (if, of course, you plan to use them):
Open the tab “Hotkeys”, and add keys for items “Start recording” and “Stop recording”. Then we close the settings, make sure that in “source” the desired one is added and selected, after which you can start recording. either through the previously configured hotkeys, or through the button “Start recording”.
How to use OBS Studio, make settings
Let’s take a look at the basic settings of OBS Studio. We will NOT touch other functions of the program. So, in the program, find the “Settings” section (Screen 2).
All that needs to be set up in them is “Audio” and “”. To do this, click on the “Audio” section and Install a microphone in it (If we use a WEB-camera, then select a microphone from it, this is the main thing). Next, select the base resolution. for example, 1366×768 or 1280×720. Then, the recording format is MP4 or other formats. After that, close the settings and save the changes.
The Gecata program from the domestic software manufacturer Movavi is the loyal assistant of the professional gamer. A simple Russian-language interface will allow you to configure all the necessary parameters in a matter of minutes. It is worth noting that the application is capable of recording from the computer screen automatically. It is activated as soon as you enter the game. In addition, Hecate can capture sound from several sources at once: gameplay or microphone. your comments on the ladder will be saved.

If you have a modern Windows 10 operating system installed on your PC, then in its arsenal there is a special “Camera” program (to start it, open the START menu and find all programs with the letter “K”). See screenshot below.
Camera in Windows 10
Although this program does NOT have a wide variety of functions in its arsenal, however, it copes perfectly with the task of taking photos from a webcam! To start recording. just press the large button with the camera on the right side of the window (see example above).
Change the background and appearance
One of the most popular webcam software. Judge for yourself, in addition to the classic recording and photo, you can change your appearance in the camera beyond recognition!
- thousands of different fantastic effects: you can place yourself, for example, in the ocean (as in the example below being under water). to the forest, to the library, etc. It is possible to change your face, add animations, apply filters and much more (I think all creative people will like the program)
- recorded (with effects) can be uploaded to any popular hosting;
- put various effects on your image in the webcam. you can broadcast it in this form, Talking, for example, on Skype;
- the program supports all popular instant messengers and programs for communication on the Internet: Windows Live Messenger, Skype, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, Paltalk, Camfrog, YouTube, Ustream and much more.
Disadvantage: the program is paid, and if you use the free option, yours will have a small logo (you can put up with it.).
ManyCam. in addition to recording, a significant expansion of opportunities
A very popular program. more than 30 million users around the world have already appreciated its capabilities!
The program is free, allows you to record from a webcam, take a photo, transform your face beyond recognition (for this, there are dozens of different effects in its arsenal, including 3D!).
- low load on the system allows you to simultaneously record and broadcast it to the network (there are brakes even on weak PCs)
- the program allows you to broadcast both for serious negotiations and for comic and funny streams;
- a bunch of different effects: changing the face, background, applying effects, etc.
- there are effects for the microphone: you can change your voice simultaneously with the picture;
- you can overlay your watermark on.
AlterCam. main program window
Compact, convenient and simple program for working with a webcam. After installing it, a virtual camera appears in the system. This new camera in your system can be connected to any other application and broadcast with the effects you want.
- there is a function of transferring to several programs at once: i.e. the program is able to “divide” so that there are no errors anywhere, that the camera is busy, whether a black screen would be shown;
- there are various effects and overlays (see creens above)
- the ability to change the voice;
- the ability to add animation and other pictures to the “live” broadcast.
SM Recorder. main window
This application allows you to capture from a webcam or computer screen (universal program!). Besides. the application can also simultaneously record sound from the speakers (headphones) of the microphone.
Supported formats AVI and MP4. I will note the presence of a sufficiently large number of settings for recording.
- the ability to record not the entire picture from the webcam, but only part of it;
- sync and audio;
- Simultaneous recording from microphone, audio-out and picture;
- the interface is made in the style of minimalism;
- the ability to make notes to.
Of the minuses: in this program, of course, you will NOT be able to change your image from the webcam as much as in the previous versions (that is, to place yourself, for example, in the depths of the ocean, will not work).
I also recommend that you Read the article on the best programs for capturing from a computer screen (many of them can also capture from a webcam).
That’s it for now. Supplements. come in handy!
