What to do if the monitor does not support

Google chrome

Open the main menu by clicking on the icon with three dots and select Settings.

Scroll down the page and click on the “Advanced” button. Find the System section and check if the option related to the use of hardware acceleration is enabled.

Otherwise, enable it and click the Restart button to force the changes.

Does the browser support WebGL?

Be aware that not all browser versions support WebGL. If the version is very out of date, you will see an error message. Support is almost present in all recent versions of browsers, but there are exceptions. For example, the technology is not supported in Opera Mini regardless of the version used.

A quick way to check if the browser supports this technology can be found on the specified page, which can be found on the Internet at the request “WebGL. 3D Canvas graphics”.

WebGL is not supported: reasons for what to do?

Accessing sites using WebGL technology can be difficult due to the error message “Your browser does not support WebGL”. This problem can be encountered when visiting WebGL Earth, Shadertoy and others. The error is more common in Google Chrome and occurs on PC configurations using an outdated GPU model.

WebGL is a JavaScript API that is used to render 2D and 3D graphics without plugins in any compatible browser. Although fully integrated with most web standards, the technology is still dependent on GPU support and is not available on legacy models.

Click on the Opera icon in the upper left corner and go to Settings. Scroll down the list of options and click on the “Advanced” button.

In the System section, move the hardware acceleration switch to the “Enabled” position.

If after enabling the WebGL feature is still not supported, go to the next method.

Enabling hardware acceleration

The most common reason that causes the “WebGL Not Supported” error is when hardware acceleration is disabled in the browser. Correct operation of the technology depends on hardware acceleration, so you need to check if this feature is enabled.

Error reasons

If you see the error “WebGL is not supported” when you try to access the site, then the reasons for its occurrence may be the following:

  • An outdated version of the browser is used, which does not support WebGL.
  • Disabled hardware acceleration in the browser.
  • The system has outdated video card drivers.
  • Installed Windows XP, which does not support WebGL technology.

Mozilla Firefox

Expand the menu by clicking on the icon with three lines in the upper right corner and select “Settings”.

Find the Performance section in the list and uncheck the box associated with using recommended settings. The “Use Hardware Acceleration” option is displayed. Check it and restart your browser for the changes to take effect.

Updating the graphics card driver

Because this technology relies on GPU support, outdated drivers can also cause a “WebGL not supported” error. Follow these steps to update them.

Open Device Manager with devmgmt.msc command from Win R window.

Expand the Video Adapters tab, right-click on the video card and select Update. If your system has two video cards (integrated and discrete), update both devices.

Now check your internet connection and automatically search for updated software. If a new driver is found, wait until the installation is complete.

Then restart your computer and try to open the site, which failed due to lack of WebGL support.

If you cannot update your video card driver automatically, try doing it manually. To do this, open the NVIDIA, AMD or Intel website, depending on the manufacturer of the installed video card and download the latest software version.

Run the downloaded file and follow the onscreen instructions until the drivers are installed. After restarting your PC and check if access to the site is blocked by an error.

How to fix out of range error

So we come to the most important part of this article, to solving the problem with out of range on the monitor. There are several possible ways to fix this error. Let’s start, perhaps, immediately with the most effective.

Out of range due to driver issues

Another reason for the out of range error is driver problems. And if the previous methods do not help, we recommend reinstalling the video card and monitor drivers.

Boot your computer in Safe Mode.

Open Device Manager (click WinPause, and in the upper left part of the window select the utility we need).

In Device Manager, expand the “Display Adapters” and “Monitors” sections, then remove each of the devices in these sections. This can be done by selecting the device and pressing the Delete key or by right-clicking and selecting “Delete”.

Next, restart your computer and let Windows reinstall the drivers for these devices, or install them manually.

How to remove out of range. second monitor

Yes, this is one of almost 100% methods of correcting an out of range error, if the driver has nothing to do with it, but not everyone has the opportunity to use it, since they need a second monitor or TV.

Connect your computer to another monitor or home TV.

Change the refresh rate and screen resolution to low values exactly supported by your main monitor.

Connect your computer to the first monitor and check. If everything is in order, change the values of the frequency and screen resolution to those supported by your monitor.

Out of range error

Out of range (Russian out of range). this is an error indicating that the signal received from the video card is not included in the operating range of the monitor signals.

Causes of the out of range error on the monitor

There are several reasons for this error:

  • Change the refresh rate of the screen to not supported by the monitor.
  • Screen resolution changes to not supported by the monitor.
  • Problems with video card or monitor drivers.
  • Errors in the video card or monitor.

The most common causes of an out of range error are the first two, when the monitor does not support the screen resolution or the frequency set by the video card. This often happens with old monitors, or when manually changing the screen frequency. Less common driver errors.

Fixing the out of range error on the monitor

There have been no bug fixing articles for a long time, and now the time has come. We will deal with the out of range error on the monitor. Let’s talk about what it is, about the reasons for the occurrence and methods of fixing this error.

Solving out of range error through safe mode

The second way is to use Windows Safe Mode.

Restart your PC in Safe Mode.

Change the screen frequency and resolution to those supported by your monitor.

Restart your computer to see if this solved your problem.

Tip: if the settings change is not saved when booting in normal mode, go to safe mode through “VGA mode” (“Basic video” in Windows 10).

Out of range due to hardware malfunction

It also happens that the equipment breaks down or does not work properly. One way to check what is causing the error, the monitor or video card, is to connect your monitor to another computer and connect your computer to another monitor.

Real life example

Finally, here’s an example from life, which prompted us to write this article. User Alexander contacted us with the following message:

“I set the screen refresh rate too high, as a result of which when Windows starts it writes out of range.

I read that I need to remove the video card driver in safe mode, and I did it, everything started, but after I install the driver again, it writes out of range again. How to be now? “

After some correspondence, in the end, Alexander was helped by the method of connecting the computer to another monitor or TV and reducing the refresh rate and screen resolution.

Checking equipment

To fix the problem, you can try disconnecting your keyboard, mouse, external hard drives, printer, scanner, speakers, and all other devices from your computer. Sometimes, due to problems with third-party equipment, problems can occur in the most unexpected nodes.

After that, you only need to turn on the monitor and computer and wait for the download. If this does not help, then you need to inspect all the connectors on the devices. It is very common for users to pull cables out too quickly, causing ports to stop functioning properly.

If they are damaged, you can try to solve the problem yourself or take the devices to a service center. As a rule, ports are bent in the connectors, this can be seen with the naked eye. Therefore, you can try to align them with your own hands.

Checking cables

If the wires are damaged, it can also affect the operation of the device. It does not matter at all whether the computer does not see the monitor via HDMI, DVI or VGA. Any of these wires can come off at the most unexpected moment. Most often this happens when the cable is not screwed into the back of the screen and PC, but SIMply inserted.

If you are using a dedicated video card, then you need to make sure that the screen is connected to it, and not to a regular motherboard connector. As a rule, the system automatically turns off the standard graphics and uses the connected device. If this does not happen, then you need to turn off the image feed through the “mom” manually.

Go to BIOS

Sometimes users are faced with literally mystical device behavior. For example, when, when the PC is turned on, information about the start of the system boot appears on the monitor, but after that the image disappears and nothing else happens. In this case, the problem may go deeper, perhaps the whole thing is in Windows. What to do if the computer does not see the monitor in this case?

To do this, you need to boot the system in safe mode and restore the OS using the built-in system restore function. You can also perform a manual factory reset. However, for this you need to have sufficient knowledge and skills.

Motherboard problems

Many people use two monitors on their PCs at once. If the computer does not see the second monitor, then the problem may be that one of them is powered by the motherboard, and the other. from the video card.

In this case, using a different type of cable or setting up the additional shield with a different method will help. Most likely, the picture will be worse in this case.

Checking computer operation

If the breakdown is related to the incorrect operation of the PC, then it is quite easy to check. If the computer does not see the monitor through the VGA cable, then it is enough to try connecting the screen to another device. Almost all modern TVs today are equipped with the same connector. However, if it is impossible to check the operation of the monitor in this way, then you should pay attention to some nuances.

If the computer is malfunctioning, the indicator lights on the computer may start blinking. If there is any problem, the power button or any other PC indicator flashes red. In addition, the computer may emit characteristic beeps. All of these signs indicate that the problem is not with the monitor, but with the PC itself.

If the computer does not see the monitor and at the same time “beeps”, then this indicates possible problems with the video card or motherboard. In this case, you should contact the service center or try to find out on your own which node the failures occur.

Sometimes the monitor is connected normally, and the PC turns on without problems in normal mode, but there is no image on the screen. The device may just be in sleep mode. In this case, you can try pressing any buttons on the keyboard or moving the mouse. If the computer does not see the monitor, then do not despair, there are still a lot of options for fixing the problem.

The monitor does not see the computer: possible causes and solutions to the problem

For a significant number of people, life is SIMply impossible without a computer. Therefore, it is very unpleasant when problems with your favorite device. For example, some users are faced with the fact that the computer cannot see the monitor. This can happen both with a standard device and when connecting an additional device.

There are a great many reasons for this trouble. Sometimes users SIMply forget to connect a monitor. However, most often the problem is more global. As a rule, when the computer does not see the monitor and there is no signal, the reason may lie in the hardware of the device. For example, this is a damaged cable, insufficient RAM, a video card error, or even the motherboard itself. A little less often, problems are associated with the operation of the system itself. Let’s try to figure out why the computer does not see the monitor and how to solve this problem.

Quite often, such problems occur when the picture quality does not match the capabilities of the monitor. In this case, the screen will not work or will start to turn off at an enviable frequency. To resolve this issue, SIMply restart the system and start it in Safe Mode. After that, it is enough to change the resolution to a lower one.

However, everything is not so SIMple. The fact is that modern operating systems return the original resolution after 15 seconds. Therefore, you need to press the “Save” button in time. In addition, the system can start persistently switching the resolution when it finds more suitable, in its opinion, parameters.

Another situation can also occur. For example, when the monitor does not show “signs of life” when the computer is running. In this case, perhaps the user SIMply connected two monitors and then disconnected one of them, but the operating system for some reason did not receive this signal. In this case, it is recommended to hold down the Fn button on the keyboard (usually it is located to the left of the spacebar) and press F1, F12 or another key (depending on the laptop model).

Sometimes all the nodes of the system work properly, and there are no problems in the monitor itself either. This situation confuses any user. It is not surprising if the PC emits a distinctive sound and the monitor works great with other devices. In this case, the problem may be with the processor. If it fails, the computer will make a distinctive sound, but in fact the system will not start loading. This is due to the fact that the coolers are spinning, but nothing else happens. At the same time, even the motherboard can produce a number of characteristic sounds. However, nothing can work with a burnt-out processor.

Power check

First of all, you should start with the SIMplest. No matter how absurd it may seem, but sometimes everything is too obvious, and it never occurs to anyone. Therefore, if the computer does not see the monitor, then it is necessary to check whether the cable has come off and whether the power button of the device is pressed. This should be evidenced by a special light indicator.

If the monitor is working properly (at least it is accurately connected) and there is no image on it, then you should try to press the menu button that opens the screen settings control panel.

Solution methods

So, before us is a monitor on which the installed game does not start. For starters, remember when the problems started. The fact is that if the game previously functioned normally, but later stopped doing it, then you most likely have to dig deeper. If the message popped up at the first start, then during the automatic configuration of the game, an incorrect permission was assigned. Typically more than the monitor can support. We won’t be able to enter the hardware configuration just like that, because the dark screen will not display the menu, even if we successfully click the mouse.

There are several ways to change the resolution:

  • switching the game to windowed mode;
  • changing the setting in the game launcher;
  • setting specific start conditions.

To switch from full screen to windowed mode, you need to do the following.

  • Launch the game and wait for the splash screen to pass.
  • We press the combination “Alt” “Enter”, after which the game switched to windowed mode.
  • We go into the settings, change the values to those on which the monitor can function. Pay attention to the refresh rate (preferably 60) and the inclusion of full screen mode. Then we save the changes and play for fun.

Changing the configuration in the launcher

  • Open the “Start” menu.
  • We find the game among the applications, open the folder. The drop-down list may contain “Change parameters”, where you should select the ones that suit us.
  • You can also right-click on the shortcut, open Properties and in the Compatibility tab put a check mark on “Use screen resolution” and “Disable full screen optimization”.

Setting Compatibility Options

Running the game with the permission we need.

  • Click on the game shortcut with the right mouse button and select properties.
  • The object line contains the path to the file directly to the launcher.
  • On this line, add the following:.h 800.w 600. This is the base resolution for many displays. After, save the changes and start the game.

Changing the properties of the game object

The wrong frequency can cause the problem. Click (decrease / increase) this option in the monitor menu. At the end, a summary video instruction:

Input Not Supported in Acer Monitors

It is worth mentioning separately that it is in the products of this company that a failure or a black screen appears instead of an image most often. over, the “Login is not supported” error occurs when loading games or Windows, and when connecting a second monitor. The crux of the problem lies in the fact that Acer displays do not interact well with legacy graphics cards. It is advisable to disconnect other equipment from it and try different ports (you need an adapter).

monitor, does, support

PAL / NTSC switching may be required, although this solution is usually used in cases where even the BIOS is not displayed. To do this, open the system unit and inspect the video card. It may have a switch of the same name or a jumper.

If you have connected a new display, then its resolution may not be supported by the previous one. In this case, you should:

  • Trying to click on the Auto display button.
  • Restarting the PC, press F8, and then select “Turn on low video mode (640 × 480)”, aka “VGA mode”.

Enabling Reduced Resolution Mode

The monitor says “Login not supported”. what to do

When starting the game, a message appeared: “Input not supported”, is it “Input Not Supported”? Instead of such a message, the player can see a completely blank black monitor screen. In this case, the sound indicates that the game is successfully launched. What to do and how to solve the problem?

Cause of occurrence

Often, the main reason is that the game is setting parameters that the monitor does not support. Thus, the screen SIMply cannot display the picture. Other reasons are much less common:

  • malfunction of the video adapter;
  • incorrect monitor setup, presence of adapters;
  • mismatch between new monitor and old GPU.

The solutions directly depend on the reasons. Let’s try to find the answer to the main question in this article.

Login not supported error

These tips should help resolve the “Login Not Supported” error. It should be recalled that we gave general recommendations, but, depending on the OS version, game and monitor connection mode, you should look for a solution to the error with more clarifying comments. In any case, please indicate which of the options helped you.

How to clean up junk and speed up your computer? (we make the work of a computer or laptop fast and clear)

Now, let’s look at the common causes of monitor problems.

The monitor does not turn on when the computer starts up. What to do if the monitor does not show an image, but the light is blinking and the computer is working

Today we will analyze a situation when you turned on your computer, the processor started working, and the monitor remained black. This is certainly not pleasant. Some people have a feeling of panic that everything, the computer “flew”, needs repair or, in general, they will have to buy a new one.

Who has not yet encountered a SIMilar problem, do not rush to despair. Not everything is lost. Of course, one cannot do without repair or purchase here, but the scale is not as serious as it might seem at first glance.

There can be several reasons for this problem. But, conventionally, they can be divided into two categories: either the problem is in the monitor, or in the processor itself (but here anything can be).

Graphics Card. Likely Reason The Monitor Is Not Displaying Image

There remains one more option and, most likely, it will be correct. the video card burned out. True, the probability of this breakdown is not so high. Maybe, of course, the video card is intact. But in this case, the matter is already somewhat more serious. you need to change the motherboard itself.

How do I check my graphics card? Remove it from the slot, check the contacts and reinsert it.

If you have a second computer at hand that supports the tested video card, insert it there and turn it on. If the computer boots up normally, then the problem is not with it. If nothing happened, change the video card. This option is acceptable only if you have at hand where to check the video card.

If not, then a master is needed. In general, if you have a gaming computer, and you strongly “strain” the video card, then it is recommended to periodically diagnose it so that it does not fly at the most inopportune moment. There are a number of programs for diagnostics, among which one of the most popular is FurMark

How to check the monitor for performance?

So let’s start with the monitor. It is very easy to check its performance. Disconnect from the system unit and connect to a regular power supply. We turn on the monitor. The power light is on, the screen displays “no connection or check the cable.”.

If you don’t see this, try pressing the menu button. If again there are no results, then the monitor can only be thrown away and go for a new one. But if you saw all these inscriptions, then you are in luck with the monitor. But no luck with something else. But with what, we will look further.

The first thing to do is the standard procedure for any failure. resetting BIOS settings. Most often, after this procedure, many problems are solved. In order to perform this operation, turn off the computer completely, even from the network. Next, we open the processor and find a round battery on the motherboard.

We take it out for a couple of minutes, then insert it back and turn on the computer.

If nothing happened after that, we inspect and check the entire unit. First of all, we check all contacts. Especially the RAM. It often happens that it is because of her that the computer may not turn on. We take out the memory modules. We examine their contacts, if necessary, we clean them. You can clean them gently with an eraser. We put it back. We check the contacts of the cable that connects the monitor to the processor.

We clean the entire processor from dust. Slots where memory is inserted, fans. They are generally very clogged with dust. We check the connection of the video card. We also take out and clean.

We remove the power supply. It clogs up very heavily with dust. Therefore, it must be opened and carefully cleaned.

So, we checked everything, cleaned it up. And nothing works. The processor fan seems to be buzzing. it turns on. But the monitor screen is still black.

Checking the power supply

Well, the last thing to be checked is the power supply.

For this, we will also need a working power supply. We open the computer, disconnect all the connectors of the tested power supply from the motherboard and connect the worker instead. After that, turn on the computer. If everything worked, then the reason is in the power supply. If nothing happened, then the problem is in the motherboard and you will need to change it.

Here, in general terms, a scheme for checking the performance of both the computer itself and its individual elements.

If, when you turn on the computer, the monitor does not turn on, but the indicator blinks. Advice, if you turned on the computer, and it either did not turn on, or the monitor did not light up, turn it on again and carefully listen to how it hums and how many times it “beeps”.

By the number of beeps, you can determine the error code. There are a lot of descriptions of these codes everywhere, and it will not be difficult to find them.

What to do first?

What if the second monitor, connected via HDMI or another port, does not work? Most likely you did the physical connection of the PC and the display correctly, the devices are in working order, but Windows 10 was unable to initially detect the display. Follow a couple of SIMple tips:

  • Restart the computer after connecting (especially if the devices were connected turned on, which is not recommended).
  • Click WinI and go to “System”. “Display”.
  • In the “Multiple displays” section, click the “Detect” button.
  • If in the same item two displays are displayed or started to be displayed, and the first mode is set to “Show only 1”, select the “Duplicate” or “Expand” mode so that the picture also appears on the second screen.
  • You can check the driver on the display. Right-click on Start and open “Device Manager”. In the “Monitors” section. remove the device for the second, and then update the configuration.
  • Check if the connected second screen is visible using the graphics card software. If you have a video card from NVIDIA. NVIDIA soft control panel, for Intel. Intel Graphics Control Center, for AMD. AMD Catalyst. In the section about monitors, you can check the presence of a second one and configure it there.
  • If the connected display does not see the software of the video card to which it is connected, the connection may have been made incorrectly or there is a malfunction in one of the elements. Although unlikely, you can still check the drivers for the video card.
  • To do this, update to the latest version using proprietary utilities (for example, NVidia GeForce Experience). Or use Device Manager to remove old and install drivers from Microsoft database.

Next, we will analyze the most popular cases that have not been described in this section.

I also advise you to watch the video about working with multiple monitors in Windows 10:

Does the external card support dual monitors?

Older or cheaper graphics cards may not support parallel operation of two or more concurrent monitors. For many video cards, supporting three displays becomes a problem.

There are also cases that displays can work if they are connected only via digital HDMI, or only via analog VGA ports. SIMultaneous connection to different outputs was unsuccessful.

Laptop or computer can’t see second monitor via HDMI

Connecting a second monitor to a computer is not a luxury, but a practical task. The second monitor can be any display that has an HDMI, VGA, DVI, Display Port, Thunderbolt, or USB-C port for connection. But sometimes a computer running Windows 10 after connecting does not see the second monitor. There are many reasons for this, so we will focus on each separately.

Little tricks

A couple more tips if suddenly the second monitor does not see the laptop. With an additional display connected, close the laptop. The other monitor will now become the primary monitor. Open the laptop. everything should now work.

Another option is to put the laptop into sleep mode. Did the picture appear on the second monitor? Try to wake the laptop out of sleep mode.

Is the monitor working?

Power off the computer and dual monitors. Unplug the first one and plug the second one instead. If you use the same cables to connect both screens, then try again through it.

If the computer does not see the second monitor connected via HDMI, try connecting via a patch cord to another connector (DVI, VGA). Still no? Connect the display to another PC or laptop. If not working, it is likely that the monitor itself is not working properly.

Is the monitor itself turned on?

It’s trite, but maybe the monitor is not turned on in fact? Check power (plug in socket), power button on the front panel. Some models are equipped with a power on / off button (toggle) at the back, so check that too. A lit or blinking LED on the front panel will indicate that the display is on.

What to check?

Let’s go from the easiest thing that can be done inadvertently. And we’ll get to identifying possible breakdowns, in particular.

How to connect to PC?

It is important to connect two monitors to the same video card. If one is connected to an external video card, and the second to an integrated one, this method will not work without special settings and support for the corresponding mode of the motherboard.

Additionally, make sure the connector is securely fastened to the monitor port and PC port. If connecting with a VGA or DVI cable, make sure that the connector is firmly inserted into the connector, and that the fasteners are screwed in so that you cannot loosen.

If you connect a modern display via USB-C, you need the cable to support media signal transmission. This can be found in the specifications for this patch cord. The computer must also support USB-C video transmission technology. Using ordinary USB-3.0 to USB-C adapters, the screen will not display a picture.

Check the ports of the video card with a work monitor and patch cord. Check the connector pins to make sure they are not bent. Visually inspect the connectors on both the video card and the computer. Make sure the cable is completely intact.

Are you using an adapter?

There are quality adapters and cheap Chinese. If for the use of the former there are still disputes about possible losses and the quality of image transmission, then the latter may SIMply refuse to work. If the conversion from digital to analogue signal, the cable must be equipped with a converter.

Also, the video card must support digital-to-analog conversion.

Check your display adapter

If you can connect one external monitor but the second monitor is not detected, it is possible that your video card (also called a video adapter) cannot support multiple monitors at the same time. In this case, the display splitter will not help you expand the display to a second monitor, as it duplicates the same signal instead of creating two independent signals.

If your computer only has one video-out port, this means that you can only support one external monitor. To support multiple monitors, you will need a USB Aux video adapter or docking station.

Reboot your computer

Restarting your computer works effectively for many problems, including when your second monitor is not detected. Restarting closes all other running processes that might interfere with the connection between your PC and the second monitor.

To restart your computer, click Start Power Restart.

Fix second monitor not detected on Windows 10

You can start with the following basic troubleshooting tips. This might fix your second monitor not detected issue before you need to dive deeper into other issues.

  • Make sure you are using the correct cable to connect your PC and the second monitor. If the cable is damaged or defective, Windows will not detect the second monitor. If you change the cable and the new cable works with the display settings, it means the old one is faulty.
  • Disable any accessories such as plugged in adapters, adapters or docking stations that could cause hardware conflicts between your PC and the second monitor.
  • Try using a second PC monitor with a different system to determine if the problem is with the primary system or the monitor.
  • Check if the second monitor is connected to a power source. Some monitors have a switch on the back to turn on the display.
  • Make sure the correct input (HDMI, DVI, etc.) is selected using the built-in controls on the monitor.
  • Connect another work monitor to check if the issue is with the graphics card.
  • You may need to update the firmware of the display you are setting up as a second monitor to fix any compatibility issues or bugs. You can do this by going to the display manufacturer’s website and checking the support page for information on how to apply the latest firmware update.

Force Windows 10 to detect second PC monitor

If there is no problem with the physical connection to your PC and the second monitor, you can use the Settings app to force the second display to be detected.

  • Open Settings System.
  • Click Show.
  • Go to the Change Display Order section and click Define.

How to update your graphics driver

  • To update your graphics driver, right-click Start Device Manager and select the Display Adapters category to expand it.
  • Right click on your display adapter (video card) and select Update Driver.
  • Click “Search” to update the driver software and then restart your computer.

Windows Update will automatically download and install the update if it finds a newer driver. Check if a second monitor is detected after updating the driver.

Connect wireless display

If your physical connection (via cable) doesn’t help Windows 10 detect the second monitor, try connecting a wireless display.

  • Open Device Settings.
  • Tap Bluetooth and other devices.
  • Select Add Bluetooth & Other Devices.
  • Tap Wireless Display or Dock.

Make sure the wireless display is turned on and discoverable. Select a display from the list and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup.

Updating, reinstalling, or rolling back a graphics driver

A faulty, outdated or damaged graphics driver can be one of the main reasons Windows 10 won’t detect your second computer monitor.

To fix this problem, you can update, reinstall, or roll back the driver to a previous version to fix and restore the connection between your computer and the second monitor.

What to do if your second monitor is not detected

Secondary monitors offer an easy and convenient way to boost your productivity or improve your gaming experience. Not only that, but it also gives you a larger canvas that acts as an extra workspace for general multitasking.

Connecting a second monitor to your computer is usually a “plug and play” method, but in some cases Windows 10 may not detect the monitor. There are several root causes for this problem, such as a damaged or faulty cable, your computer does not support a second display, you have an outdated driver, or your display drivers cannot handle a second display.

If your second monitor is not found, use this guide to troubleshoot and troubleshoot your monitor.

Reinstall the graphics driver

  • Right-click Start Device Manager Show Adapters. Right click on your computer’s display adapter and select “Uninstall device”.
  • Uncheck “Remove driver software from this device” and click “Remove”.
  • Restart your computer and go back to Device Manager. Find and right-click the name of your PC in the Computer section. Click Scan for hardware changes.

During startup, Windows will try to automatically reinstall the graphics driver, after which you can try to reconnect to the second monitor.

Check memory

The computer may not turn on due to one or more problematic memory modules. Usually the system speaker emits several sounds, although not always.

On a de-energized PC, remove the cover. First, take a photo to get your memory back in place after experimenting. Then spread apart the latches on the edges of the RAM slots and remove the modules. Clean the contacts with a regular stationery eraser and rubbing alcohol, if available.

Put the memory back in place, reconnect all cables and check if the computer works. If not, you can still try to remove all the RAM modules, leave only one or swap them in the slots, trying to start the PC after each manipulation.

If an image still appears on the monitor, then the problem is definitely with the memory and it will be necessary to replace the defective modules with new ones.

Switch signal source

Some monitors with multiple ports have a function to switch between signal sources. Like on TVs. The correct connection may not be detected automatically, and then the image on the screen, of course, will not be.

Switch the signal source using the Input or Source button with a square with an arrow inside. For details on this function, see the operating instructions.

Test your graphics card

Of course, a burned-out video adapter cannot display any picture and the screen will remain black. To check, taking precautions, disconnect the internal power cable from the video card. Unscrew its fastening screw, and then slightly bend the slot latch and carefully pull out the adapter.

Clean the contacts of the card with an eraser and alcohol, then reinstall it and, collecting everything in the reverse order, try to start the computer again.

Another option is to replace the video card with another, obviously working one. If this helps and a picture appears on the monitor, you will have to fork out for a new video adapter.

Rate the reliability of your contacts

RAM, video card and other components are installed in slots on the motherboard. If you recently changed them, cleaned them, or removed them from the slots for any other reason, there is a chance that the components are not fully inserted. Due to poor contact, there may well be no image on the monitor.

To check, disconnect the power cable from the computer, carefully remove the side cover by unscrewing the screws at the end of the rear panel. Examine the video card and RAM sticks. Make sure they are inserted straight and all the way. The latches on the sides of the RAM must be closed, and the video adapter must be fixed with a screw to the chassis chassis.

Check the video cable connection

Make sure the signal wire is also securely fixed. HDMI and DisplayPort must be fully inserted, and VGA and DVI are additionally secured with screws on the plugs. Then do the same with the connector on the other end of the cable that connects to the computer.

If possible, try replacing the wire or connect through a different connector. For example, if your video card and monitor have multiple ports, use DVI instead of VGA or HDMI. Or vice versa.

Another cable may SIMply be connected to the wrong video card. This happens when the motherboard has a pin for integrated graphics, but a discrete adapter is involved. If you recently disconnected the monitor wire, please check if you connected it correctly. The plug must be inserted into the connector below, separate from the main port group.

Make sure you have power

Before proceeding with further diagnostics, you need to make sure that the monitor is receiving power. This is indicated by the LED on the front panel, which should be lit or blinking in one of the colors.

If the indicator is off, check the power buttons on the monitor and extension cord: it is possible that someone or you yourself accidentally pressed them during cleaning and did not notice.

If everything is in order there, then the reason may be in the cable. From the side of the plug, it is fixed in the outlet quite clearly and reliably, but it is SIMply inserted into the monitor power connector. The wire may have shifted slightly in the socket and the contact is broken.

Try to insert it a little more into the connector and check the indicators. There may be problems with the cable itself. To eliminate them, replace the wire with another, for example, from the computer power supply. they are suitable (unless it is a model with an external adapter).

What to do if the monitor won’t turn on

Often the cause of the problem lies not in the display itself, but in the computer. Check each option and solve the problem yourself.

Make sure the monitor is working

If none of the previous tips helped, the monitor might be broken. The easiest way to eliminate this is to test the display on another computer. Ideally, just swap monitors with someone for the day.

However, there is another way. Disconnect all wires from the display except the power cable and turn on. If a message about no signal or any other information appears on the screen, then everything is fine with the monitor and the problem is in the computer.

If the display remains black and no indicators on the case are lit, the monitor will have to be carried to the workshop for repair.

Check the power supply

If all else fails, then most likely the cause of the problem lies in the power supply. This can only be verified with the appropriate skills. At a minimum, you need to have a multimeter on hand and be able to use it. If you are confident in your abilities, then act like this.

With the case cover removed, locate and disconnect from the motherboard the longest connector with the most wires from the power supply. Unfold a paper clip and connect the resulting jumper between the contact with the green cable and any of the contacts with the black wire to SIMulate the PC power-on signal.

Next, put the multimeter into DC voltage measurement mode. Press the black test lead to any contact with the black cable, and then alternately touch the red test lead to the yellow, red, orange, purple and blue wires. Compare the values with the table above.

If the voltage is absent or differs from the reference by more than 5%, the power supply will probably need to be repaired or replaced. If you have a working unit, you can immediately try to install it instead of the standard one and look at the result.
